Ticketmaster and RIM Partner Up

Ticketmaster and RIM Partner UpIn what seems a never-ending stream of partnerships between RIM and other strong companies, today another partnership was announced. Ticketmaster has joined forces with RIM, and the BlackBerry will now be known as the ‘Official Smartphone of Ticketmaster’.

When I first read the news, I thought to myself ‘Ok cool, RIM is the official smartphone of Ticketmaster… but they can’t stop other smartphone users from using Ticketmaster… can they?’

Looks like I could be wrong.

Ticketmaster is working with RIM to develop an exclusive software app that allows Berry users ‘untethered access’ to browse and purchase tickets all they want from Ticketmaster.com. So, if all goes well in development I’m assuming that you will indeed need a BlackBerry to gain ‘all-access’ to a special version of the Ticketmaster ticket purchasing system.

In the official press release, RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie commented: ‘The BlackBerry platform is the ideal platform for mobile e-commerce. With its inherent flexibility, stability and security, the BlackBerry platform allows application providers to offer e-commerce solutions that people will feel confident using…We are very excited to be working with Ticketmaster to provide this exclusive value-added service to our customers.’

Good on both of these companies for working together to provide something (hopefully) unique to the BlackBerry user. Lets hope development of the application goes smooth as silk.
