Verizon confirms HTC Imagio launch on October 6

HTC PhonesYou know that slate-style Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone that recently popped up in Verizon’s inventory? Well, Verizon has just confirmed that the HTC Imagio will be launching on “America’s Largest Network” on October 6th! In fact, the Imagio will be among the first smartphones to run the new Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional OS – and on Verizon’s traditionally slow-to-adopt network, no less.

The Imagio’s 3.6-inch WVGA (800×480) touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi and 3.5mm headphone jack makes it a great launch platform for the revamped WinMo platform. For $199.99 (with new 2-year contract and after $100 mail-in rebate), Verizon will start offering the HTC Imagio through online sales on October 6th. In-store availability is expected to start on October 20th.

If you wondering why the Imagio’s feature-set looks familiar, it’s because you’ve probably seen it before. The HTC Imagio is basically an HTC Touch Pro2 without the slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Think of it as the media-centric ying to the Pro2’s business-savvy yang. But, there are differences. The HTC Imagio sports a 3.5mm headphone jack (only CDMA Pro2’s have this small but important feature) and a handy little kick-stand to prop up the handset while watching VCAST TV or Miley Cyrus music videos.

As for those dimples lining the Imagio’s bezel? Well, I’ve had some hands-on time with the device, and I can say that the design is no more attractive in person than in the glamor shots you see here. That’s not to say that the Imagio as a whole isn’t impressive, because it is. And, different folks have different tastes. But, For me, well, let’s just say I could do without the dimples. That said,  can’t wait to get more time to play with the Imagio. Look out for the review on the IntoMobile front page!
