We know that Apple managed to hit the 50,000 confirmed orders mark for its iPad in the first two hours. That, however, was just the beginning. The Cupertino folks apparently ended the day with a total of 120,000 iPads pre-ordered!
Of that number, all models — 16GB, 32GB and 64GB — turned out equally attractive. WiFi version was more popular than the one with 3G, with two of every three customers deciding not to wait for the end of April when 3G iPad will be available.
That makes me think people will buy virtually anything with Apple logo on it. And this is not to say, something’s wrong with the iPad – it’s just that I don’t see its use case. Or at least I can’t justify the purchase at this stage.
In related news, just like that was the case with the iPhone, now we have a diamond version of iPad in works (pictured above). The luxurious device will feature 11.43 carats of diamonds, hand-set in a micro-pave styling. The diamonds are graded G/H in color and VS2/SI1 in clarity. It will be a limited edition device that will start selling on June 1st for $19,999. The bare fact that it costs $20K makes is quite limited, but the idea with these kinds of products is to emphasize that “if you don’t grab it now, someone else will”…
