Wind Mobile Offering Half Off Monthly Rate for First Six Months

Yesterday, Wind Mobile introduced a new data add-on for middle-range subscribers, but today they’re trying to rope in customers with some more direct incentives: 50% off their first six months of voice/data service (no add-ons) if they sign up before the end of May. Additionally, if you’re already a Wind Mobile subscriber, you can take advantage of a new referral program which will give you a whole free month of service for every friend you recruit, capping out at six referrals. The ReferAFriend promo is also available only until the end of May, so you better start working on your sales pitch. The best part is that these two deals stack, so if you sign up a fresh contract this month, and recruit six friends afterwards, you could have half a year with half the usual plan fees, and half a year free. Sweet. Neither of those are deals you see in Canada at all, and really goes to show why Wind is different.

Considering this is coming right after their promo of $150 credit to folks switching from another carrier for their ETFs, Wind Mobile is getting really aggressive about winning over customers from the established carriers in Canada. Pricing options and sales are great, but Wind’s coverage, expanding as it may be, is still the bottom line. Currently, Wind Mobile is restricted to the larger cities (Vancouver is still on the way), switching to a roaming deal with Rogers when customers are outside of town. Even within the existing Home Zones, there’s a lot of work to be done. If Wind can still win over new subs despite coverage gaps, good on them, but churn may be considerable, and Rogers ultimately wins out when dissatisfied customers come crawling back for a new three-year contract.
