If you can’t wait to get your paws on the Android-powered Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile, you may be able to get it sooner than expected as reports indicate it will launch July 15, a few days earlier than previously announced.
There’s no real explanation for the early launch but it would give T-Mobile a nice Android-powered handset of its own to counter the launch of the Motorola Droid X on Verizon, which will also crash-land July 15. Whenever it finally does hit retail shelves, the Samsung Vibrant will immediately become the best smartphone on T-Mobile.
The Samsung Vibrant is aptly named because the smartphone rocks a 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. We had a chance to play with a Galaxy S at CTIA (which also sports this display) and I was blown away by the screen. The colors are crisp, sharp and, well, vibrant. This will immediately challenge Apple’s Retina Display on the iPhone 4 as the best screen on a smartphone.
It’s not just the screen, though, as the Samsung Vibrant will also rock a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor. This should provide some awesome mobile gaming because it is capable of up to three times the graphical horsepower as other comparable devices.
It will also come with all the goodies you’d expect from a high-end smartphone, as the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant will be able to use the carrier’s 3G network, it packs WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, microSD slot and a 5-megapixel camera that’s capable of 720p HD recording. T-Mobile will also load some stuff on the smartphone like the “Avatar” movie, Amazon Kindle and MobiTV.
Don’t get too envious if you can’t hop to T-Mobile for the Vibrant, as Samsung will have a Galaxy S handset for nearly every major mobile operator in the United States. AT&T will have the Samsung Captivate, Verizon will get the Fascinate, U.S. Cellular will get a Galaxy S and Sprint’s Epic 4G looks like a monster with its WiMax capabilities and front-facing camera for video calls.
