Just because you don’t attend, it doesn’t mean you can’t win. Take Apple for instance. Last year, Steve Jobs was named the “Mobile Personality of the Year” and this year the iPhone 4 took the Best Mobile Device award. Needless to say, Apple wasn’t at the show neither this nor last year.
Judges said that the iPhone 4 has a “great screen, sharp design, fantastic materials, and phenomenal ecosystem for app developers. In a tight race, the iPhone 4 built on the success of its predecessors to set the pace for smartphones.”
Other notable winners include HTC and Rovio. HTC won the “Device Manufacturer of the Year” award with judges noting the company has “built its market presence from nowhere, with fresh branding and marketing and a strong portfolio of devices across many platforms.” They went on, adding: “In particular, it has proven an exceptionally popular and enduring phone manufacturer. With great communication and good customer service, this is a well-deserved award.” HTC also went home with a “Highly Commended” note for its Desire smartphone.
Rovio’s super-popular game Angry Birds won two awards, “Best Mobile App” and “App of the Year on the Apple Platform,” with judges commenting “this is the 50 million plus-selling app that catapulted the benchmark for mobile gaming higher than ever, it is innovative too in terms of in-application monetization.” We couldn’t agree more…
