Sony has started accepting pre-orders for its Tablet S device listing September 16th as a shipping date. At the moment only Wi-Fi versions are available and we’ve no idea when the 3G-enabled tablet will be available (nor we care for that matter). The Tablet S comes in two flavors with 16 and 32 GB of built-in storage, and the price tag of $500 and $600, respectively.
Although I love Sony, I’m not sure their tablets are that great to justify the steep price tag. In comparison, the same money gets you the Asus Eee Pad Transformer which comes with that ever-useful detachable keyboard. Alternatively, you can buy an iPad for $500 and benefit from all the apps available for Apple’s platform.
Meanwhile, if you’re interested in the Sony Tablet P — the one with dual 5.5-inch screens — you can sign-up and be notified when it starts selling. Hopefully some carrier will pick it up (AT&T?) and offer it for much less with a contract. We’ll see…
