Nuance announced today it has signed an agreement to acquire Vlingo, a popular mobile voice assistant for BlackBerry, Android and other mobile platforms. The deal will combine Vlingo’s mobile voice technology with Nuance’s powerful voice recognition system “to accelerate the pace of innovation” in the mobile space.
No doubt this acquisition was fueled by the enthusiasm in voice control kicked off by Apple’s Siri voice assistant, Windows Phone’s TellMe service and Google’s Voice commands. With all this interest and some major players entering the market, we may see some significant advances in this mobile voice technology in the upcoming year.
