Right after Apple released its Q3 2012 earnings today, chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer announced statistics for iOS — including the App Store, iCloud, etc. — in the earnings call. The numbers just keep getting bigger.
There are now over 650,000 apps in the App Store, which is up from the 600,000 announced in April. It’s also not far ahead of Google Play’s 600,000 apps as of late June and Android’s app marketplace could soon take over as the largest in the world. Of the 650,000 apps on iOS, 250,000 are designed specifically for the iPad.
Developers are doing pretty well, too. Apple has now paid out over $5.5 billion to the developers. In April, the Cupertino-based company had paid out $4 billion, meaning developers earned a staggering $1.5 billion in just the past few months alone. Apple of course is sitting on its own gigantic mountain of cash, now at approximately $117 billion.
iCloud user numbers are up as well to 150 million from the 125 million reported back in April. This was certainly aided by the 26 million iPhones and 17 million iPads Apple sold last quarter and will get an additional boost with iOS 6 this fall and OS X Mountain Lion with tight iCloud integration, which makes its way into the Mac App Store tomorrow for $19.99.
Apple’s statistics are about to get even more impressive as we slowly approach the fall and holiday seasons when the company’s prized possession, the iPhone, will will reach its sixth generation. Rumor has it an iPad mini is in the works for this fall, too.
