Apple is continuing its dominance in the tablet market, according to the latest numbers tallied up by IHS iSuppli. The firm found that the Cupertino based company extended its lead in the slate business shipping about 70 percent of all tablets in the second quarter of this year. Indeed, these are impressive numbers, but they don’t include Google’s Nexus 7 tab which was released after this study was complete.
Here’s how the numbers breakdown. Apple went up 58 percent in market when compared to its first quarter, giving the company its highest share of the market since Q1 of last year. These numbers were due to the fact that the iPad maker in Q2 shipped out an astounding 7 out of every 10 tablets. Garnishing a total of 17 million tablets shipped globally. Not to go unmentioned, Apple’s nemesis Samsung, pulled in at second shipping around 2.3 million tablets for a 9.2 percent piece of the slate pie.
That being said, it’ll be interesting to see how Apple maintains its lead when the Nexus 7 numbers are in. Plus, with other tablets like the Galaxy Note 10.1, Amazon Kindle Fire (new), and Microsoft’s Surface RT tablet coming within the next few months — should be the first real threat Apple has had since the inception of its iPad.
