Judge Lucy Koh overseeing the Apple and Samsung trial is beginning to get a bit irritable with the two companies in this trial. Apple’s attorneys got an ear-full from her today. After presenting the judge with a 75-page briefing including 22 possible witnesses Apple considered calling to the stand once Samsung’s presentation finished, she asked why they would give her such an insanely long document “when unless you’re smoking crack you know these witnesses aren’t going to be called.”
Apple’s attorneys agreed to shorten the document and apologized if its length was a hassle for the court, but only after attorney William Lee stood up to declare “First, your honor, I’m not smoking crack. I can promise you that.”
The judge isn’t ease up as time went on, either. After Apple and Samsung continued their blabbering she told them, “I’m billing time because you all are being unreasonable.” Judge Lucy Koh is not happy and clearly does not want to offer up more of her time than necessary to get the Apple and Samsung trial over with already. The whole thing resembles two kids in a cat fight while the parent stands over them annoyed and trying to get them to act rationally and reasonably.
Just yesterday it was reported that Koh asked Apple and Samsung to try negotiating over the phone one last time before proceeding forward with the trial. “I see risk here for both sides if we go to a verdict,” she said. “It’s time for peace.”
