T-Mobile may be left out from the “official iGame” but it does want to prepare itself for folks looking to bring Apple’s latest smartphones to its network. To that end, the Deutsche Telekom-owner carrier will be offering Nano SIMs in mid-October which interested customers will then be able to put into their unlocked iPhone 5 handsets. Speaking of which [unlocked iPhone 5], you can grab the 16GB version for $649, 32GB one for $749, and the one with 64 gigs of built-in storage for $849. Kinda steep but then again on par with high-end Android smartphones.
Our two cents: We salute T-Mobile’s strategy of being prepared for the iPhone 5 but I’m not sure that will help them a lot. The chances are slim that many people will buy the unlocked iPhone 5 only to bring it to T-Mobile’s network. Quite the contrary, we wouldn’t be surprised to see T-Mobile customers leaving the network to get Apple’s handset on AT&T, Sprint or Verizon.
