Looks like Panasonic will yet again try to bring its phones to the international audience. One of the reasons to make this bold step (again) is that they’re not satisfied with the existing deal they have with NTT DoCoMo, which is focusing its marketing efforts on a smaller number of handsets. As part of this initiative, the Japanese carrier is highlighting other devices, namely those made by Sharp and Sony.
That’s all nice, but we must add that Panasonic had mixed results when it tried to sell its gear in the West. The company’s Eluga smartphones didn’t really sell like crazy and were usually unavailable for purchase from major operators. Moreover, the newly unveiled Panasonic P51 isn’t vanishing from store shelves of India; rather, local publications are questioning the level of demand due to high pricing and limited marketing.
We do hope that Panasonic will get its act together and finally succeed in international markets. All of us could benefit from another player that could disrupt the current state of near-duopoly, dominated by Apple and Samsung…
