Like it has done in the past, Apple is selling the iPhone 5s in China using a reservation system that cuts down on large crowds and phone scalping. The reservations went live on Tuesday, and the slots to secure a launch day iPhone 5s in gold and white were quickly sold out, according to Chinese publication Sina Tech.
The first model to sell out allegedly was the gold iPhone 5s. Within two hours of the reservations going live, the stock of the gold phone was gone from the Sanlitun, Xidan Joy City, and Wangfujing Apple Stores. Only the Beijing Apple Stores were mentioned in the Sina Tech report, but they are the flagship stores for the country and are used as an indicator.
Customers who pre-ordered a phone were required to text a special phone number to receive a book code. This code was needed to be entered into the online reservation system before the customer could select a device, color and capacity. To complete the transaction, customers need to have a government issued ID and must arrive at the Apple Store at their designated time.
