Sony is fed up with all its products being leaked ahead of launch, so the company plans to tighten up its security. To do this, the electronics giant will carry out strict rules and protocols that employees have to follow when using unannounced devices that haven’t been made official yet.
The new rules is on a sign that can be found in a variety of Sony locations, it includes the following:
- Do not use phones without protective cover
- Do not show phones to individuals outside of Sony Mobile (unless NDA is signed)
- Do not upload any pictures to social networks, public web pages etc.
- Do not use 3rd party benchmarking applications
As you can see in the photo above, these guys aren’t messing around. But doing something like this may only encourage people to break the “rules” even more, as they take pleasure in shunning the word of authority.
The reality is, many of these tech companies are trying to find the right secret sauce when it comes to successfully keeping their upcoming products on the down low, and away from the public-eye. Apple once had that famous recipe, but ever since the iPhone 4 was found in a bar unattended by some regular dude, its been exposed again and again for unreleased devices.
It’s safe to say that we live in the age of the leak, where we find out about the latest hotness months before it becomes official. On one hand it’s awesome for us who cover it, but terrible for companies who try so hard to wow us down the road with something we’ve already seen.
