It seems the closer we get to MWC, the more Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors we hear. We’ve got some fresh juicy ones for you today, just before Samsung’s Unpacked 5 event at MWC in Barcelona where the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy S5.
The first rumor on the plate has to do with the Galaxy S5’s release date. According to PhoneArena, an unnamed Samsung exec who spilled the beans on the device’s release date in a report to GSMArena. According to the Samsung exec, the Galaxy S5 will be available in retail stores just three weeks after its announcement. Supposing Samsung unveils the Galaxy S5 in Barcelona next week, the Galaxy S5 would be on store shelves in mid-March 2014.
We’ve been hearing that Samsung may release two different versions of the Galaxy S5, one high-end and one mid-teir, as Apple did in 2013 with its iPhone 5S and 5C. Industry insider Eldar Murtazin has confirmed this rumor via Twitter, also stating that he believes the Galaxy S5 variants will have different names. Murtazin also claims that we’ll see the lower end GS5 variant release first, with the higher-end variant landing in stores a few weeks later. That’s not too surprising given Samsung’s penchant for long and often confusing names for its devices.

Last but not least, GOLD! That’s right, GSMArena obtained an internal Vodafone document which lists a gold-colored Galaxy S5 variant. Could it be? It sure could. Apple launched a gold-colored iPhone 5S back in 2013, and HTC is rumored to offer up a gold-colored HTC M8 or “The New HTC One” upon launch.
That concludes today’s Samsung Galaxy S5 rumor roundup. We’re super close to the supposed official GS5 announcement, at which point we’ll know what Sammy’s working with.
