Looking to save some cash on a new Apple purchase? You’re in luck. Apple has just announced that the company will honor the upcoming tax holiday in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, South Carolina and Tennessee. The tax holidays begin on August 1st, so get those credit cards ready!
U.S. tax holidays occur around the back-to-school season, and vary from state to state. Some states have stipulations on which products qualify for the tax break, as well as other factors. A list of participating states and purchase requirements follows below:
Alabama
- DATES: August 1st 2014 to August 3rd, 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Sale must be for personal use. Total purchase price must not exceed $750.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS: Computers and computer accessories, such as a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers, when sold with a CPU. Nonrecreational computer software. School computer supplies are limited to computer storage media, such as disks and handheld electronic schedulers (except devices that are cellular phones); personal digital assistants (except devices that are cellular phones); computer printers; and printer supplies for computers, such as printer paper and printer ink.
Florida
- DATES: August 1st, 2014 to August 3rd, 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Exemption includes first $750 of sale of computer or computer accessories and nonrecreational computer software
Georgia
- DATES: August 1st 2014 and August 2nd 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Purchase must be for personal use. Total sales price of each exempt item not to exceed $1000.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS: Computer or computer accessories
Louisiana
- DATES: August 1st 2014 and August 2nd 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Purchase must be for personal use. Tax holiday only applies to 4% state tax, local taxes will be included.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS: “All tangible items” with a price of $2500 or less
Massachusetts
- DATES: Pending legislation – click here for updates
- REQUIREMENTS: Purchase must be for personal use.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS: All items with a price of $2500 or less
Missouri
- DATES: August 1st 2014 to August 3rd 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Purchase must be for personal use. Exemption per item purchased, local taxes may apply.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS: Computers and related accessories priced at $3500 or less. Accessories are limited to daughterboards, digitalizers, disk drives, displays, hard drives, keyboards, memory modules, mice, microphones, modems, monitors, motherboards, printers, random-access memory, scanners, single-user hardware, single-user operating systems, sound cards, speakers, storage drives, and video cards. Software priced at $350 or less.
New Mexico
- DATES: August 1st 2014 to August 3rd 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Purchase must be for personal use. Exemption per item purchased.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS: Computers sold for no more than $1000. Related accessories sold for no more than $500. Related accessories include keyboards, mice, microphones, monitors, printers, and speakers.
South Carolina
- DATES: August 1st 2014 to August 3rd 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Purchase must be for personal use.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS:Books, computers, computer software, printers, and printer supplies qualify for this holiday. Computer accessories, such as AppleCare, keyboards, mice, monitors, and scanners, are also exempt if sold with a CPU.
Tennessee
- DATES: August 1st 2014 to August 3rd 2014
- REQUIREMENTS: Purchase must be for personal use.
- ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS: The tax exemption applies to computers and qualified accessories with a total sales price of $1500 or less. Qualified accessories include cables, keyboards, mice, monitors, and speakers
The tax break is available to any customer who purchases Apple products in a retail store or online. For online purchases, the customer must reside in one of the participating states. Sales tax will show up on the bill during checkout but will be corrected once an email confirmation is received.
