AT&T LG Xenon Makes an Appearance

lg xenona AT&T LG Xenon Makes an Appearance

The LG Xenon, a cheap texter that was due to land for the holidays but still hasn’t bothered to show up to the party, has been pictured, and roughly reviewed. Verdict? Solid build,  nice rubbery keyboard, and some nice address book improvements over the LG Vu. The OS is apparently reminiscent of TouchWiz, with draggable widgets galore, but is still very much in preproduction. Specs, as previously spotted, are:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz) for 3G data
  • aGPS
  • Wi-Fi
  • 240×480 2.8? LCD
  • 3 megapixel FF +VGA (VT)
  • 950 mAh battery
  • It’s physical size is 105.5 x 53.5 x 15.8 mm
  • 100MB of memory with microSD support up to 16GB
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • USB 2.0
  • EMP U330 Lite Chipset

The Xenon should be available “very soon” on AT&T (NYSE: T) for $100 after a $50 mail-in rebate in three colours, two of which will be black and red.

Live From CES 2009: LG Tells Us About ATSC Mobile Digital TV

In yet another video from the good folks at LG, Frank Lee tells us all about ATSC mobile digital TV, and how we’ll soon be watching it live from our mobile devices and more. The first device he pulls out to show us looks to be the LG Vu, and as you can see there looks to be some sort of antenna attachment inserted to make it all happen. Frank then goes on to show us a portable DVD player and netbook computer, both playing live digital TV. Cool. With the US is going to full-digital broadcasts of all TV shows this February…This is surely a sign of things to come! I can’t wait to watch live TV on my handheld device no matter where I happen to be!

Thanks Kristin!

Rogers Network Upgraded, Leaves BlackBerry Bold, iPhone Behind

RogersCanada’s foremost GSM Carrier recently upgraded their HSPA network to handle 7.2 Mbps, a speed currently only attainable by the HTC Touch Diamond and the LG Vu T915. This leaves the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold, which clocks in at 3.6 Mbps, the iPhone, which many carriers stunt to 1.3 Mbps, and plenty of other older handsets behind the curve until we see a few firmware updates. Rogers (NYSE: RCI) remains confident that it won’t take long until new devices are out to take advantage of the speedier HSPA network – their new Rocket Stick aircard already runs on it.

New Wine Colored LG Vu 920 Coming to AT&T

lg vu 920 New Wine Colored LG Vu 920 Coming to AT&T

The LG Vu is a pretty good bargain as far as touchscreen handsets are concerned. For just over $100, you get a lot of features in a nicely designed touchscreen handset. Rumors have been floating around recently that the device would be discontinued… and new reports suggest that is sort of the case. The 915 model should be gone soon, to be replaced by a newer 920 model.

When the LG Vu 920 arrives it will feature MediaFLO, and the usual bevy of bug fixes. On top of that (and more importantly for some), the LG Vu will be coming in a new ‘Wine’ color. The new color isn’t as out there as some of the pink devices we’ve been seing over the past few months, so this update should appeal to both the guys and the gals.

The new Wine colored LG Vu 920 should be making an appearance in stores soon. Look for the price point to hang around the same range as the previous version… Just a tad more than $100. A solid buy.

LG is all proud to announce that three of their handsets were honored with CES 2009 Innovations Awards. Among the awarded products are:

  • LG Dare (VX9700) – which features a 3-inch touchscreen that is enabled with handwriting recognition and tactile feedback, 3.2 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens, and much more. The Dare is also a “Best of Innovations” honoree.

AT&T scores exclusive Olympics mobile TV channel

Beijing OlympicsSure, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) may already have the established mobile TV business, but I’m still not sure just how many users go beyond their VCAST Video offering. Maybe I’m wrong, but AT&T (NYSE: T) which has recently launched its mobile TV offering has scored a big deal to push the service forward. It’s the exclusive Beijing Olympics coverage that will see them picking up the content through NBC Olympics 2Go.

Meanwhile, Verizon’s offering will be limited to streaming video that will include daily highlights, breaking news, scores and results, and more.

Now, it’s just a matter of finding enough LG Vu and Samsung Access owners interested for some real-time action…

AT&T launching 10 channels for AT&T Mobile TV tomorrow on LG Vu and Samsung Access

AT&T Mobile TV on Samsung AccessThe long wait for AT&T (NYSE: T)’s new mobile TV service, appropriately dubbed “AT&T Mobile TV,” will soon come to an end. As expected, the new AT&T Mobile TV service is set to launch on May 4 (tomorrow) with 10 full-streaming TV channels. But, there’s a catch. You have to have an AT&T cellphone equipped with Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s MediaFLO hardware in order to get access to these 10 new mobile TV channels.

On launch, AT&T will have only two handsets compatible with the Mobile TV service – the LG Vu and the Samsung Access. The two handsets, priced at $300 and $200 (on new contract and after $100 rebate), respectively, will initially be the only devices from AT&T that will be able to run the new AT&T Mobile TV application. AT&T Mobile TV is set to launch in 58 major US markets, including Los Angeles and New York.

The new service will cost AT&T customers $15 a month. The channel lineup looks like this: CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2Go, NBC News 2Go, Nickelodeon, Sony Pictures and CNN Mobile Live.

So, who’s itching to get their LG Vu or Samsung Access hooked up to AT&T’s Mobile TV? Drop us a line and let us know if it’s worth the extra $15 per month.
