ASUS Announces Wi-Fi Hosting P835

asus p835 ASUS Announces Wi Fi Hosting P835ASUS has just launched the P835, rather impressive touchscreen device running Windows Mobile 6.1. The screen clocks in at 3.5″ and 800 x 480 pixels, and comes along with a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, quad-band EDGE and tri-band UMTS. Opera Mobile comes included, with navigation made possible by a trackball, and above all, it can be used as a Wi-Fi access point for up to 10 devices. Who needs a MiFi hub? The P835 is also featuring a new version of the Glide interface that revamps the old look. This would be the very same Omnia-fighter we spotted in September, and is certainly slick enough to butt heads with the big boys.

Pantech announces yet another Korea-only handset – Cupid IM-S390

pantech cupid Pantech announces yet another Korea only handset Cupid IM S390

Again and again, we see Pantech (sort of) selfishly announcing new device for South Korean market, only. This time they showed us the CDMA-based Cupid IM-S390, which as you may guess, is designed to be a hit among the female youth.

We’ve no all the spec details. However, we’ve heard the 12.5mm-thick slider will boast a T-DMB TV tuner, memory card slot, possibly a music player, and such pre-installed apps as electronic dictionary and subway maps.

The Cupid IM-S390 will be available within 5 days in three colors — white with pink, white with lime and black — with an estimated price of 40 won. That’s with a contract, I guess.

Pantech’s Sky IM-S400L slider looks sexy even without that “Glide Sensor” keypad

im s400l 1 Pantechs Sky IM S400L slider looks sexy even without that Glide Sensor keypad

Pantech is out with yet another Korea-only handset called Sky IM-S400L. The stylish slider is made to sing along CDMA networks and also has a solid 2.6-inch screen. However, what really sets the IM-S400L apart — or at least Pantech thinks so — is its keypad which uses the so called “Glide Sensor” technology. Apparently, thanks to this tech mambo-jumbo, users should expect the keypad to operate like a laptop trackpad. Are we talking about a “capacitive touchscreen kind of technology here or what?” It certainly sounds like that.

Anyway, most of us will never be able to find out more about this phone as we’ve no information it will ever leave South Korea, where interested buyers could grab it for about $395. Kinda steep for a feature phone, but I guess that’s the price for an unlocked device.

i-mate releases its own UI for Windows Mobile

imate ui i mate releases its own UI for Windows Mobile

If HTC (TouchFLO 3D), Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) (Xperia Panels), Samsung (TouchWiz) and Asus (Glide) can have their own customized UI apps that sit on top of Windows Mobile, so can i-mate. The idea is of course to make smartphones running Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s mobile OS easier to use for an average user.

That being said, recently we’ve spotted i-mate releasing an UI app for its line of Windows Mobile smartphones called i-mate Go, which is based on the VITO Winterface and which honestly reminds us on iPhone’s UI. It features large, colorful icons and is easy to personalize (you can check our previous post about Winterface from here).

The new UI will be shipping with new devices, and in the meantime owners of Ultimate 9502, Ultimate 8502, Ultimate 8150, Ultimate 6150 and JAMA 101 models are advised to grab it and make their devices easier to use. Here’s a link to the page on i-mate’s website from where they can grab i-mate Go.

ASUS P565 gets real – 800Mhz and VGA resolution from ASUS

asus p565 2 ASUS P565 gets real 800Mhz and VGA resolution from ASUSIn the mobile space, there’s no such thing as too many megapixels, too much display resolution, too much storage space, or too much processing power. Mobile phones are starting to become more powerful than computers of just a couple handfuls of years ago, and we’re slowly seeing more and more smartphones with spec-sheets that read like they belong to budget laptops. Case in point, the ASUS P565 Windows Mobile smarpthone.

We had heard rumors that ASUS was working on a VGA touchscreen smartphone with an industry-leading 800Mhz processor powering a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional platform, but we weren’t holding our collective breath for ASUS to make this monster of a smartphone a reality. Well, ASUS has gone live with the ASUS P565 Windows Mobile smartphone on their website – color us pleasantly surprised!

As expected, the ASUS P565 smartphone boasts an impressive 2.8-inch VGA (480×640) touchscreen display that should make for some fun times with ASUS’s Windows Mobile wrapper, the Glide UI. Packed inside is a GPS receiver, WiFi radio, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, and a 3 megapixel camera – ensuring that even the most demanding mobile enthusiasts can have their cake and eat it, too.

But, the ASUS P565’s most noteworthy feature is that class-leading 800MHz Marvell CPU working in tandem with the 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM. It’s only a matter of time before cellphone processors break through the 1Ghz speed barrier. And, until that time, the ASUS P565 will be the fastest, most powerful Windows Mobile smartphone on market. Unfortunately, the tri-band (900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio and the single-band (2100Mhz) 3G HSDPA radio will keep the ASUS P565 from burning up CPU cycles in the US.

ASUS P552w smartphone ready to compete with HTC Touch

asusp552w1 ASUS P552w smartphone ready to compete with HTC Touch

ASUS has recently unveiled its competitor to the original HTC Touch smartphone called P552w. The device competes with the original HTC Touch and not the Diamond because of the QVGA (240×320 pixels) screen, as opposed to VGA (480×640 pixels) which is used in the Diamond.

The ASUS smartphone relies on the quite fast 624MHz CPU and sports such things as built-in GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera and more. The company’s Glide UI sits on top of Windows Mobile 6.1, ensuring users enjoy easy access to their photos, videos, RSS feeds and more.

Unfortunately, we’re not aware how much the ASUS P552w will costs once its released nor where you’ll be able to grab it. However, I would expect to see it hitting Europe within weeks, maybe months, with the price that’s about the same as the HTC Touch.

ASUS Glaxy7 bringing the fight to Omnia

asus glaxy7 11 ASUS Glaxy7 bringing the fight to Omnia

Some pictures of an unreleased ASUS handset, apparently dubbed the Glaxy7, have emerged, and if the specs are true, it could easily give the Samsung Omnia a run for its money. It’s packing the Glide 1.5 UI, 3G, GPS, a 5 megapixel camera, trackball, touchscreen, front-facing video camera, an accelerometer,  Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and a nice, beefy 800X480 WVGA screen. The Omnia hit Europe about a week ago, so this beauty will need to get out the door quick to ride the wave, but these are some pretty final-looking pictures… I think we can expect it out sooner than later.

ASUS cancels ASUS Lamborghini ZX1?

ASUS ZX1 Lamborghini

Speculation, being what it is, forces us to take both possible sides of a story in to account. Such as this latest rumor regarding the Lamborghini-branded Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone from ASUS. The ASUS ZX1 Lamborghini has been gussied up and shown off for the lux-handset demographic to drool over for the past several months, and we’ve been waiting on ASUS to finally launch the handset this summer. But, that may no longer be the case.

We hearing that ASUS has put the kibosh on the ASUS ZX1 Lamborghini’s 2008 summer launch plans. ASUS apparently wanted to ensure that their more important product launches stayed on-schedule for a Q4 2008 launch window.

Now, as far as the other side of the story is concerned, we could just be seeing the ASUS ZX1 getting delayed until 2009. Like the rumor says, ASUS is putting a priority on their other Q4-targeted handsets – which could mean the ZX1 is getting bumped back, not entirely killed off.

With Lamborghini styling and a slick UI under the Windows Mobile 6.1-powered hood, the ASUS ZX1 Lamborghini is definitely a smartphone worthy of seeing the light of day. For what it’s worth, we hope to see this device someday.
