For a company who goes nuts over patent infringement, and was just awarded $1+ billion dollars from Samsung for just that, the new iPod Nano revealed at the Apple event today looks remarkably similar to the Nokia Lumia.

While they may look similar however, “thugtacular” on Reddit.com has pointed out that it just looks “like 2 old Nano’s stacked almost exactly top to bottom and the black screen edge turned to white.” He also correctly points out that the Nano was released a year before the Lumia 800.

Whether Apple will catch any flack for this remains to be seen, but one thing is certain. We are currently in the midst of an enormous patent war. One where companies are looking for anything to sue each other with.

The new Nano certainly resembles the Lumia, and we’re not the only ones that think so. Just check out some of the comments under this CNET article.

MyNokiaBlog thinks the same thing, and so does Twitter.

Best of luck to Apple in the coming days. Many Apple haters are thirsting for a reason to call hypocrisy on Apple. But for now, hey, finally a new iPod.

Passbook is creating quite a bit of buzz and anticipation for the release of Apple’s newest mobile firmware, iOS 6. Though there is still come debate as to whether the iPhone 5 will feature NFC technology that is currently already being seen in some Samsung phones with Google Wallet, iOS 6′s Passbook is sure to take a swing at putting your wallet, and other essentials, right onto your phone.

Passbook essentially functions as a digital place to keep all your coupons, gift cards, and most importantly and potentially revolutionary, boarding passes. This last feature is what has companies jumping for an opportunity to bring the ease of a boarding pass on your phone, to its customers.

Usually when a new feature is rolled out, especially something that can be classified as an App or smartphone feature, it takes adoption on a mass-scale to actually be successful. Another problem is backing by big names; Google has been running Google Wallet on select Android devices for years, but how often do you see a Visa or MasterCard commercial for Google Wallet? Well now there’s some hope for Apple’s Passbook.

American Airlines and Delta are looking to bring their boarding passes to Apple’s Passbook in iOS 6. While we know now that the new iPhone won’t have NFC technology, it would still be a huge boost for every iOS 6 user who flies American or Delta, to have their boarding passes on their phone.

The transition from paper to digital is one that almost always meets resistance. Much like the idea of reading a book on a device was met with skepticism before the Kindle, it will be interesting to see how many frequent fliers change the way they travel with Passbook.

After Google’s Chrome for iOS suddenly exploded on the scene and quickly reached the number one spot on the free iTunes charts, the eye on a mobile OS to challenge Safari has widened. But as Chrome receives updates and Firefox pushes further on Android, Firefox maker Mozilla has never managed to get a full browser onto the App store. But just about 2 years ago, their app “Firefox Home” made it onto the market. It is now being taken down.

As much as Mozilla fans would like to see a Firefox browser on the iPhone and iPad much like Google’s Chrome App, this simply serves as a reinforced message that a fully functional mobile Firefox browser for iOS is very unlikely.

Their Firefox Home App was intended to serve as an extension to the desktop browser. It allowed synchronization between tabs, as well as bookmarks and browsing history.

Mozilla gave a statement saying that Firefox Home was “an experiment in bringing part of the Firefox experience to iOS.” “This project provided valuable insight and experience with the platform, but we have decided to remove Firefox Home from the Apple App Store and focus our resources on other projects,”

The battle for a major browser on iOS may be fruitless as Safari is still the dominant player. With the release of iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 in late September, a faster version of Safari is expected, and will further solidify Apple’s grasp on the mobile browser.

Bluetooth earphones provide a convenience and an ease that is unmatched in the wired alternative. If you listen to your music on your Bluetooth enabled device like your iPhone or iPod, then Bluetooth earphones are worth a look. The Phiaton PS 20 BT, are the latest in compact, high quality, Bluetooth earphones. These “half-in-ear” earphones provide the comfort of ear buds with the noise reduction of in-ear.

These small Bluetooth earphones come with the complete package. Not only are they great for listening to music without the buzz of background noise, but they come with a microphone and clip, so you can use them for hands free phone calls, much like the headphones that come with Apple’s iPhone, just much cooler.

Phiaton’s PS 20 BT’s come with volume and song control built right into the device, so that you don’t have to get your Bluetooth enabled device out every time you feel like changing the song or adjusting the volume. The microphone as was mentioned before, is there for phone calls, but that’s not all it’s there for. These Bluetooth headphones also provide noise reduction while you’re on the phone. So that whomever you’re talking to doesn’t get the drum and buzz of wherever you happen to be. ??As with most earphones, the buds are inter-changeable and come in a variety of sizes to fit your needs and taste.

At $130 these headphones are pretty good bang for your buck, they sound great, the feel awesome, and they are easy to carry with you and even easier to use. ??Check them out here!

The battle for over-ear headphone comfort and quality is never-ending. As more and more celebrities like Snooki, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and others start their own headphone lines, the in-store search for quality sound is overshadowed by-product placement and brand power. Phiaton is a fairly new entry into the market of high-quality headphones to challenge to the top-selling Bose.

Phiaton’s PS 320 headphones are a notch above the rest. The first problem that I encounter with over-ear headphones like Dr. Dre’s Solo HD’s is comfort. Most over ear headphones are tough on the ears and apply too much pressure that over time leads to pain. This over-ear model from Phiaton do a good job of not applying too much pressure, and provide long-lasting comfort. The headphones aren’t too heavy and don’t feel to big on your ears, though that may be a complaint for some. These may be over ear but unless you have tiny ears they won’t completely cover your ears, which can lead to sound leakage.

But aside from the small size of the actual earphones, these headphones are sturdy and secure. They fit nicely and comfortably, and don’t have a cheap plastic band like you find in some other big name brand headphones. They come with a pretty snazzy carrying case, and are aesthetically straightforward. If you’re looking to drop a few hundred dollars on Bose headphones, first take a look at Phiaton.

Phiaton provides great sound quality for a variety of situations at a fair price. ??These are just the range you should be looking for to get some nice headphones for your iPod or iPhone. They also do a good job of muffling any background noise, which would be ideal for most situation where you’d want to listen to your iPod.

You can check out these great over-ear headphones here.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting from sources that claim to be “people familiar with the matter” that Apple is currently in talks to possibly create a custom radio streaming service to rival Pandora. Pandora Radio was launched in January of 2000, using the information gathered from the Music Genome Project, an ambitious project designed to find the similarities in every song imaginable, and map out certain trends and instrumental themes in music. It is this technology that allows Pandora to play music that sounds like the song or artist you picked.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that the new Pandora rival could function on Mac OS devices as well as replacing the Pandora app on iPhone and iPad “and possibly on PCs running Microsoft Corp’s Windows operating system” implying that it may be an app or feature found in iTunes instead of being a separate Mac Application.

The news of a possible competitor from tech giant Apple did not fare well for Pandora Radio. After the Wall Street Journal article was published, stocks opened 16% lower and then went on trade 20% lower on news that Pandora might be beat. Another option would be for Apple to merely buy Pandora out, however that option comes with a steep $1.7 billion price tag. Even for a company with a ridiculous amount of cash on hand, that’s still a big number. If Apple wants to beat Pandora then they need to come up with something will overcome 10 years worth of Pandora fans. Pandora sports 54 million users, however if Pandora or the rival app becomes part of iTunes then Apple will be reaching hundreds of millions of users overnight with the priceless credibility that comes with iTunes.

Into Mobile goes hands on with the Satechi Swfit Bluetooth Speaker – a little speaker that packs a heck of a punch, and fits all your mobile and laptop speaker needs.

The popularity of Bluetooth speakers is skyrocketing, and with it is the demand for affordable Bluetooth accessories, enter Satechi’s Swift. At $30 this humble one speaker box gives a strong volume boost to any device you pair it with. This is great to carry with you and pair with your iPhone or iPad, as it works flawlessly.

The Satechi Swift has a simple rechargeable battery that is charged via mini-usb, for which it provides a cable. You can keep this little thing connected to your laptop, and provide almost unlimited loud and crisp playback.

The quality of the Swift is truly astounding. When you turn it on and start playing, you expect it to sound very one-directional, and small, but neither of your worries will come to fruition. This speaker sounds like souped up laptop speakers, and delivers clear sound. Aside from being a great music player or movie speaker, this can also function as an external phone speaker, for when you want quality sound for a speakerphone situation such as a meeting or gathering.

The dead horse that is the Apple v. Samsung case has been beaten into the ground, but wait, there’s more. Quite interestingly, albeit not too surprising, has been the result of the verdict as manifested in Samsung sales. Trip Chowdhry who serves as managing director of equity research at Global Equities Research told Forbes this week that people “rushed” to get their hands on Samsung’s Galaxy S III after the verdict was announced.

The AT&T stores that Trip investigated all said the say “significant” sales, and many Costco stores were sold out. Did Apple drive people to buy Samsung phones before it was too late? The problem to consider now is, would all those people have bought a phone from Samsung anyways over a longer period of time or did Apple actually lose potential customers?

Currently iPhone 4s’s in stores all across America are at ridiculously low prices trying to get rid of stock in preparation for the September 21st launch of the iPhone 5. And even with those prices, Samsung sales spiked. Depending on how the verdict affects these two companies, we may see Samsung sales be a good thing for Apple if the two companies decided to a license fee per device payment agreement.

The curious thing about all of this, is that the verdict had nothing to do with the more modern phones or tablets, so why the sudden interest from consumers? It could possibly be a fear of successful injunction as filed by Apple, against Samsung devices, though they have yet to target any of their flagship products.

The Braven Six Series line of portable wireless speakers are made to fit your every wireless sound system need. The Braven 625s is one of the most useful, versatile, and worthwhile Bluetooth speakers around. ?? If you’re looking for speakers for your room, living room, pool, or rec. area, then these are the speakers for you.

At a cool $180 the Braven 625s bluetooth speaker provides more than just a music speaker, it’s a tool. The Braven 625s has a USB slot for charging your iPhone or iPad while you’re playing music via Bluetooth. It also has a 3.5mm line-in slot for non-Bluetooth devices, but hopefully you won’t need that because the beauty of this speaker is that you can put it anywhere in a room with you (about 10 meters away from you at max) and get crystal clear sound.

For $180 you get what you pay for, in a good way. No sound is lost here; The Braven 625s comes with a full mid range, a nice bass that doesn’t distort as you turn up the volume, and a treble that keeps the voices sounding crisp and clear. These speakers can play music with great audio quality even outside by the pool, as long as you’re in a closer proximity. Not only is this speaker small and portable, but it is also shock resistant.

The 625s is begging for you to take it on your adventures. It comes with a weatherproof bag and flashlight. The Braven 625s is appropriate for just about any situation except maybe a huge party, as it doesn’t get that loud, but it will definitely play music over a room full of people having a good time.

With the release of iOS 6, Siri will finally be coming to Canada. When iOS 5 was announced, Canadians were quite excited to see the entertainment and use that Siri would bring to their iPhones, but it was announced soon after that Siri would not experience full functionality until much later. Now with iOS 6 around the corner in line with the release of the iPhone 5, Apple is bringing Siri to the iPad 3 and to Canadian Apple iPhone fans.

While Canada is certainly somewhere you’d expect Siri to roll out in sooner, there are many places around the world where Siri has yet to hit. This is due mostly to her language barriers. Currently Siri supports English, French, German, Japanese, and by the end of 2012 will be done adding Korean, Chinese, Italian, and Spanish.

Alongside the news that iPhones in Canada will be receiving Siri, Research in Motion tried to drive some enthusiasm for their new line of phones last week. RIMM met with CEO’s and Executives of some of the biggest carriers in Canada, showing off their latest build and new line of phones in an attempt to get the carriers excited about, well, carrying them when they are released.

It may come as a surprise as we have seen RIMM’s dismal performance here in the US, but it was only in March of 2012 that RIMM ceased to hold the largest portion of the smartphone market in Canada. They claimed this week that they are receiving a “tremendous” response from carriers that have seen that they will soon offer the world. Well RIMM, I hope that’s true, because your stock price is killing my portfolio.

Some of the biggest tells and the sources for some of the fastest growing rumors in Apple’s universe are their patent filings. Well this week a patent has surfaced that is turning some heads. Ever wanted someone’s phone to be off, dimmer, or quieter in a movie theater? Well what if your iPhone knew that you were in a theater and did it for you.

Now it sounds a little bit like big brother, but imagine the potential. Apple has filed a patent for “apparatus and methods for enforcement of policies upon a wireless device.” Again, it sounds like this would be out of your control, but it would likely be a feature that you can turn on and off. This patent, which was awarded today, tells us of a world with an iPhone that thinks for itself.

“For example to disable noise and/or light emanating from wireless devices (such as at a movie theater)”

“For preventing wireless devices from communicating with other wireless devices (such as in academic settings), and for forcing certain electronic devices to enter “sleep mode” when entering a sensitive area.”

“Maybe one day instead of signs that say, “Shut off your mobile phones while inside the theater,” they may say “mobile phones will be shut down in this theater.” This is because the system would likely work based of receiving certain location sensitive policies from certain access points. If you don’t like it, reject it, but most likely when walking into a library after forgetting to put your phone on silent, you wouldn’t mind if it did it for you.

See the full patent here.
