Google has just released version 3.0 of the company’s Shopper application for Android smartphones and tablets. The update brings with it a fresh new user interface with larger images, quicker and smoother navigation, and image-centric search results. The Verge’s Tom Warren is back with another Microsoft rumor this morning. According to sources familiar with the matter, Microsoft will in fact release iOS and Android versions of Microsoft Office in the first half of 2013. The apps will allow users to view Microsoft Office documents in the application, with content creation tools available via a subscription to Microsoft’s Office 365 platform. According to Tom Warren of The Verge, Microsoft is working on an Xbox Surface gaming tablet with a 7-inch screen. The product was rumored back in June as well, though many expected the Xbox Surface was off the table once Microsoft unveiled the Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets back in June. Those buying the 32GB Surface RT tablet may be in for a bit of a shock when they venture into the device’s file explorer. Microsoft posted a new answer in their FAQ document yesterday which answers the oft-asked question of how much usable space the Surface RT tablet actually has. AT&T has announced the on-contract pricing for the HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia’s Lumia 920 and 820 handsets this morning, and it will continue the trend set by the Lumia 900. Apple’s once-commanding lead of the tablet market is shrinking, according to the latest IDC report. In the third quarter, 27.8 million tablets were shipped worldwide, with Apple’s iPad representing 50.4% of all shipments in the quarter. That represents a marked drop for the company, which represented 65.5% of all tablet shipments in Q2. Apple has announced this morning just how many iPads the company sold on opening weekend. The company claims the 3 million iPads sold is a launch record for the iPad line, and represents double the number of iPads (3rd generation) sold on opening weekend back in March. Google has released the latest platform distribution numbers on the company’s Android Developer Dashboard, and it paints a familiar picture of the Android landscape. Android 2.3 Gingerbread, now officially 2 years old, continues to dominate the charts, with 54.2% of all devices running on the platform. Android’s tablet-focused 3.X Honeycomb is in 1.8% of all devices. According to the latest IDC report on mobile shipments in Q3 2012, Android now has a commanding lead of the smartphone market. Android’s worldwide smartphone shipments in Q3 reached 136 million, which represents 75% of all devices shipped in the quarter, compared to 57.5% in Q3 2011. You really can’t make this up, folks. Apparently, the iPhone 5 shipped with a bug that prevented owners of the device from receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates from Apple. A software update pushed to iPhone 5 devices today remedies the issue, downloading an application to your homescreen that allows you to install iOS 6.0.1. The iOS 6.0.1 update provides a full fix to the OTA update debacle as well as various bugfixes, including the bug that sometimes saw the iPhone using cellular data even when connected to WiFi. Earlier this year, Apple was ordered by a UK Court to post a statement on its UK home page that Samsung did not copy the iPad. Last week, Apple turned a few heads when it posted a letter on its website noting the Court’s ruling in the UK, but pointing to Apple’s several victories around the globe, and highlighting the fact that the UK Judge stated the Galaxy Tabs were “not as cool” as the iPad.
