Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The “convergence” is what he’s most excited about, and writing about it is the next logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do.

In addition to his interests in mobile phones, Dusan also loves to experiment with the latest web and mobile 2.0 services. The idea of accessing and managing your information from any device no matter where you are simply amazes him. Whether it’s an online to-do list, note taking service or a video sharing social network, he’s there to try it out. He admits though, he’s still searching for the ultimate web-based organizational tool, which “sings” perfectly with the mobile PIM application.

Dusan used to run SymbianWatch.com which later became part of IntoMobile. He lives in Serbia, South-East Europe, from where he edits the site on a daily basis.

WordPress Mobile Edition plugin gets an update

Alex (the) King has released a new version of WordPress Mobile Edition plugin, allowing blog editors (myself included) to edit posts while on the go. Actually, that’s while in the queue or while commuting in the public transportation as far as I’m concerned. Anyway, among the changes from the 2.x releases we find: New (Carrington-based) theme with improved display for advanced mobile browsers. Advanced mobile browsers (iPhone, Android, etc.) are now shown the mobile theme by default. Special CSS for touch-enabled devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, BlackBerry Storm, Read more

Syncing the iPhone 2.x with a Linux computer

Although Apple’s iPhone 2.0 firmware update generally killed wireless syncing with Linux, efforts have been made to resurrect the functionality. As expected hackers won, allowing all Linux fans around the world to comfortably sync their iPhones with PCs. Before you hop over to get all the details, you should know that a jailbroken device is required and so is the OpenSSH app (available through Cydia). Once that’s on place, follow all the steps provided on the Ubuntu Forums community. From what I can tell, it’s not super easy, but then Read more

Yahoo, Vodafone in talks about search deal?

Yahoo is reportedly in talks with Vodafone about the distribution of its mobile search client in Europe. Although no contract has been signed yet, if this goes through Yahoo would be a default search engine on all phones sold by Vodafone, hence replacing Google, which contract expires this year. Both Yahoo’s and Vodafone’s representatives declined to comment the news. All we got were Yahoo’s Zealous Wiley generic words that the company is in talks with “a number of operators around the world, including Europe.” To put things in perspective here Read more

Hudson Entertainment brings Bomberman Dojo and Military Madness to Android Market

Hudson Entertainment released two new games to the Android Market – Bomberman Dojo and Military Madness. There’s no need to cover the two classic titles as each one of them has a dedicated Wikipedia page with detailed information. I’ll only that, as expected, games are optimized for Android phones, featuring nicer graphics and touchscreen controls. Commenting on the announcement, Hudson’s Yoko Tsumagari said: “The release of Bomberman Dojo and Military Madness launches our participation into game content development for Android Market. Entering into this new marketplace will maximize new business Read more

Discretix at MWC: Content protection solutions for Android and complete mobile TV reference design demo

Here’s one more news from the Mobile World Congress we’ve missed. It’s from Discretix, the good folks who sponsored my first trip to the event back in 2006. They had two announcements in Barcelona: First they’ve announced support for the Android platform. More precisely, they said that their complete suite of mobile content protection solutions is available for Google’s mobile OS, offering handset vendors a pre-integrated solution, lower development risk and reduced time to market. Discretix’ official release is available from here. The second news deals with mobile TV. Along Read more

Juniper Research: Last year mobile games revenues reached $5.4 billion!

According to a new report from Juniper Research, mobile games revenues reached $5.4 billion in 2008. Not surprisingly, markets that led this growth include India, Africa & Middle East, as well as developing nations across the Asia Pacific region. In the report titled “Mobile Games: Subscription & Download (5th edition),” Juniper awarded two companies with its Future Mobile Awards for their achievements in the mobile gaming space. Apple took the Gold Award with its AppStore, while the silver medal went to Fishlabs for their work in development of premium 3D Read more

Evernote’s mobile website optimized for the Android web browser; Native app in works!

Good news for Evernote fans which have or plan to obtain an Android-powered handset. The popular note taking service/application (and my personal favorite, I might add) has optimized its mobile website to render better on Android’s Webkit-based browser. T-Mobile G1 aka HTC Dream users will be automatically redirected to the optimized version once they visit Evernote’s mobile website at www.evernote.com/m. Among the features included in the optimized-for-Android website are easier search and navigation with quicker access to commonly used features, touchscreen optimization, support for both portrait and landscape modes. Those Read more

Acer to have its own application store?

It’s a trend and it seems Acer wants to join it with its own application store. At a press event in London, Acer’s senior corporate vice president, Mr. Aymar de Lencquesaing, said that they are “examining the viability of an app store.” Now that doesn’t mean they’ll go and make it themselves — partnering with Microsoft seems a viable option. At the end, they may go for the an Acer-branded Marketplace for Mobile in their future Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphones. And we know they plan to release a bunch of Read more

Samsung Smooth coming to Verizon Wireless

Verizon Wireless will be adding a new low-end phone to its portfolio in the coming weeks. While we’re not sure about the exact release date, we’re sure the Samsung Smooth is designed for the first time phone buyers, or for those who are not really looking up into the feature set that much. That said, this entry-level clamshell won’t fascinate many with its VGA camera and 128×160 display. EV-DO is out and so is the microSD card slot, meaning you can’t access Internet services nor use it as a music Read more

Apple AppStore hits 25,000 apps?

This isn’t offical, hence the question mark at the end of the title. However, according to 148Apps.com, which keeps a running count of all the iPhone app submissions, more than 25,000 applications have been submitted to the Apple AppStore since May 2008. More precisely, at the moment of this writing the total number was 26,024! Now I wonder why Apple is quiet about this. When I visited their iPhone page today, it said “15,000 apps. And counting.” Maybe they don’t count all the “Lite” version, which will possibly dissapear once Read more
