George has followed technology news for quite some time, but he only started writing about it a few years ago. He particularly enjoys covering Apple, but that doesn't stop him from reporting on a wide range of topics in the mobile area. When he's not reporting for IntoMobile, you can usually find George listening to a wide array of music, trying to be funny and sarcastic, eating, or voicing opinions on his personal blog.

Nokia officially confirms Lumia 928 with new ads

Just yesterday we reported that a billboard was spotted advertising the Nokia Lumia 928 as “The best low-light smartphone camera.” Nokia had yet to officially talk about the new device though. Now, however, more ads have surfaced and Nokia even launched a website confirming it. A giant full-page ad in the magazine Vanity Fair is dedicated to the Lumia 928. It mainly boasts once again the camera’s superb performance especially in low-light conditions. Specifically, the PureView-branded camera is on board here as is the Carl Zeiss lens and Optical Image Stabilization Read more

Gmail for iOS gets updated with better integration of other Google apps

Google released an update today for its Gmail for iOS app that brings improved integration with other Google services that are available on iOS as well as a few other improvements. By “improved integration” with other Google apps, I don’t mean you’ll see any of their functionality popping up in the Gmail app. Rather, it’s a lot easier to stay within the Google ecosystem now because you can open links from Gmail that will launch another Google app if you have it installed. If there’s a map, you can tap Read more

New offer gives you up to $375 for turning in your old phone to buy an HTC One

HTC has a really impressive offer for those who are interested in owning an HTC One but are holding back primarily because they already have a phone. The deal is this: if you turn in your current, qualified smartphone in favor of purchasing an HTC One by May 5th, you can get up to $375 for the device. At the very least, you’ll get $100 for it. Not too shabby at all. The offer runs from May 2nd to May 5th, so as HTC says, it’s “for One weekend only!” Read more

iOS 7 delay possible due to complete UI redesign

Jonathan Ive, who took over the reigns of iOS software designer from Scott Forstall recently, is apparently considering a slight iOS 7 delay in order to finish the UI overhaul that is planned in the operating system’s new release. This overhaul will supposedly dramatically change the look and feel of iOS from what we’ve come to know it as. With Ive at the head, he has decided to ditch most if not all of skeuomorphic UI elements, e.g. the casino table theme of the Game Center app. Much of the gloss is Read more

Microsoft’s new Windows Phone ad tells Apple and Samsung fans to stop fighting

Microsoft has created what I consider a brilliant new Windows Phone ad that tells Apple and Samsung followers to stop arguing with each other all the time. It’s true that the Android vs. iOS battle has evolved nowadays into an Apple vs. Samsung battle. Microsoft says, “Don’t fight. Switch.” and just buy a Windows Phone handset instead. The ad takes place at a wedding. The groom’s side of the wedding all own Galaxy phones and the bride’s side all have iPhones. When someone with a Galaxy phone takes a picture, Read more

HP Slate 7 Android tablet with Beats Audio now available for $169

The new HP Slate 7 Android tablet hit store shelves today. It’s a pretty good looking rectangle that has some low-end specs but with an appropriate low-end price tag. It has a somewhat mediocre 7-inch 1024×600 display and runs on a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 chip clocked at 1.6GHz. Inside there’s 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a 3,500mAh battery. As always you can expect cameras on the front and back: VGA and 3MP respectively. HP markets its Beats Audio as built-in to the tablet, which is typical Read more

HTC President says mediocre Galaxy S4 reviews are positive for HTC One

Mike Woodward, president of HTC in North America, has been reading through recent Samsung Galaxy S4 reviews with a smile on his face. That’s due to many of them being quite comparably mediocre to other devices like, say, the HTC One. Woodward talked to Business Insider a bit about how he is reacting to the lukewarm Galaxy S4 reviews. “It’s really been a great week for us,” he said. “We’re seeing brisk sales so far.” Not surprisingly, he’s pretty pleased. “We look at [the Galaxy S4 reviews] through the lens of Read more

Apple CEO Tim Cook hints that new iPhone, iPad won’t arrive until fall

Today alongside the large announcements revolving around Apple’s Q2 2013 earnings, Tim Cook spoke briefly about what Apple has in the pipeline. In doing so, he seemingly killed off rumors that there might be new devices this summer. His quote that says it all is: “Our teams are working on new hardware, software, and services that we can’t wait to introduce this Fall and throughout 2014.” Tim Cook does say that some of what’s currently unannounced will arrive “throughout 2014″ but that’s most likely software. Apple’s WWDC is always in Read more

Nokia teases new phone with QWERTY keyboard coming April 24th

Nokia apparently has something cooking that it considers tease-worthy. By the looks of the image above, it seems to be some sort of QWERTY phone possibly with that BlackBerry-esque candy bar form factor. The image comes from a short blog post from Nokia. “On Wednesday morning at 7am GMT we will be announcing something new, followed by a Q&A session with Neil Broadley from our Mobile Phones team and a special guest,” wrote Ian Delaney on the Conversations by Nokia blog. There’s a few takeaways from this. Since the announcement comes from Read more

Tumblr launches mobile ads for iOS, Android apps

Tumblr announced today that the rollout of mobile ads for its iOS and Android apps has commenced. It’s part of the blogging platform’s initiative to generate more revenue in new ways. These new ads are designed to be noticeable, but not entirely obtrusive. They look just like any other post in the Dashboard, but you’ll know when you’re looking at an advertisement because they’re marked by a dollar sign ($) at the top right. The image above is an ad from GE which simply incorporates a few words and an animated Read more

U.S. Cellular gears up for launch of first Windows Phone 8 handset

U.S. Cellular long ago confirmed plans to eventually release a Windows Phone 8 device on its network. A recent comment made by the carrier on its Facebook page suggests the first one is finally on its way. After posting a photo of a Samsung phone on the page, a Facebook user simply commented on the photo with the message “Get Windows Phone.” About 30 minutes later, U.S. Cellular responded confirming that it is “working on the launch of a Windows 8 device.” For all intents and purposes, I think it’s Read more
