George has followed technology news for quite some time, but he only started writing about it a few years ago. He particularly enjoys covering Apple, but that doesn't stop him from reporting on a wide range of topics in the mobile area. When he's not reporting for IntoMobile, you can usually find George listening to a wide array of music, trying to be funny and sarcastic, eating, or voicing his opinions about all things tech on his personal blog, GT Daily.

Is this iPhone 6 design concept supposed to be taken seriously?

Uh, yeah. That thin glass block you’re looking at above is supposed to be an iPhone 6 concept design. Before I rip into it as you might have expected, let me at least explain what it has to offer. Designer Abel Verdezoto mocked this up to release his own concept for what the iPhone 6 could look like. It has a larger display than the iPhone 5 it appears, squared corners on the front and back with the top and bottom curved, a very slim form factor, and what seems to Read more

iOS 6.1.3 issues angering more users than 6.1.2

Apple seems to take one misstep after another recently with these minor iOS updates. iOS 6.1.1 was issued to fix cellular problems on the iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.2 resolved some WiFi and Exchange issues with 6.1.1, and iOS 6.1.3 was supposed to fix the lock screen bypass but apparently did not. Now there’s even more issues discovered — five to be exact — in iOS 6.1.3 which should prompt Apple to release iOS 6.1.4. The first is Microsoft Exchange. Some had problems with a calendar bug draining activity and others Read more

Mozilla demos Firefox OS on Dreamfone

Not too much buzz has been surrounding Mozilla’s Firefox OS lately, probably because the company is hard at work developing it behind the scenes. Mozilla did share a demo recently that you’re able to watch below of the operating system running on a prototype Dreamfone, which is a low-end Firefox OS phone announced at Mobile World Congress 2013 with an ARM Cortex A5 chip clocked at 1GHz. The cheap hardware doesn’t exactly do the operating system much justice. The graphics are sluggish even just switching between pages of icons, the camera Read more

Samsung Ativ S, HTC Tiara to be first Windows Phone 8 handsets on Sprint

We reported in January that Sprint would finally start a lineup of Windows Phone 8 handsets with one Samsung device and one HTC device, but that’s as specific as it got. Now we have the two devices rumored for release soon on the carrier: the Samsung Ativ S and the HTC Tiara, the latter of which remains presently unannounced. The Samsung Ativ S is for the most part a high-end device. It sports a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720p display, 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, 8MP in the Read more

HTC One pre-orders hit all time high, but can HTC keep up with demand?

An internal memo from HTC that leaked out to the public has been confirmed as authentic. The memo talked about unexpectedly strong pre-order numbers for the company’s new flagship Android device, the HTC One. Normally this would be excellent news, but it might actually pose a problem for the manufacturer that had to delay the release of this phone because of component shortages. Jason MacKenzie of HTC wrote in the memo to employees, “we are seeing our strongest initial response for any smartphone we’ve ever designed with several hundred thousand Read more

T-Mobile’s Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 521 passes through FCC

Nokia’s very low-end Windows Phone 8-based Lumia 521 has gotten FCC approval and is headed to T-Mobile here in the United States starting on an unspecified release date. The international equivalent announced at MWC 2013, the Lumia 520, goes on sale soon in various markets worldwide. The specs on this thing aren’t blow-away, but they aren’t meant to be. The frequencies max out at HSPA+, which means T-Mobile will likely market this as a 4G device. Technically, HSPA+ is considered 4G, but it’s no LTE. Aside from that, the Lumia Read more

Google’s Eric Schmidt uses a BlackBerry, criticizes iPad mini for being ‘too small’

Google chairman and former CEO Eric Schmidt admitted to using a BlackBerry as his primary smartphone in an interview with Guardian at the Activate conference. One might assume someone with a high ranking at Google would be using an Android phone, but that’s apparently not the case. Schmidt says the main reason for using his BlackBerry is his love of the keyboard. Plenty of Android phones — probably with more functionality than that of a BlackBerry — also have physical keyboards as well, but hey, the guy likes what he likes. Read more

Make love, not war: iPhone, Galaxy S III users are created equal according to study

A new study examining the ways Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S III users use their devices found that despite our constant feuding online and sometimes in person, we’re all much more alike than we think. The Consumer Intelligence Research Partners released the report which surveyed 500 iPhone users and 500 GSIII users in January and February. Respondents from both sides indicated nearly identical rates of calling, text messaging, emailing, and web browsing. 80 to 90 percent of iPhone and GSIII owners said they send several texts per day on their Read more
