BlackBerry App World Down in Israel?

While doing some poking around in the BlackBerryOS forums today, I happened to notice something disappointing… especially for the good folks residing in Israel. Seems as though BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) App World is no longer available in the country. Paid apps disappeared first, and now, apparently free apps aren’t available either. Strange.

I know there is quite a BlackBerry community over in Israel, so this news just flat out sucks if you’re packin’ a BB and are looking for new apps. If any BlackBerry users in the country could comment or shed some light on this situation, it would be much appreciated.

Koodo Throws LG KEYBO and Shine Into the Bargain Bin

Looking for an LG KEYBO or Shine at a new low price? Koodo up in Canada has thrown these two devices on their ‘refreshed’ list… When I say ‘refreshed’, I really mean ‘refurbished’, because that’s what these units are. If you don’t mind using someone else’s trash (OK, maybe that’s just a tad harsh), and are OK with some minor cosmetic dents and scratches, both of these LG beauties are going for $100 outright. You save $75. Not bad.

Update: Looks like the KEYBO is nowhere to be found in the bargain bin. Guess they sold out (that’s my guess!)

Bloomington and Lafayette Indiana Get T-Mobile 3G

Good grief, for most of November there was little to no T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) 3G expansion news… and now, it seems like we’re getting hammered with it. A few more cities have been announced to be a go on T-Mobile 3G, joining other locations in Alabama, Kansas and Tennessee just a day ago.

Bloomington and Lafayette Indiana are both now hooked up and good to go on T-Mo 3G. Congrats to all of the folks in the area. If you happen to be a resident of Bloomington or Lafayette, and are running a T-Mobile device… Be sure to let us know if you notice any marked improvements in speed!

Major FAIL: Steering Wheel Laptop Stand

Am I seeing things here? Is that really a laptop stand designed to clip to your steering wheel? Yessir, it is. What you’re looking at is the AutoExec WM-01 Wheelmate. This product was designed as a ‘tray’, but you’ll surely notice how well the thing doubles as a laptop stand.

Of course, this product could never be used while driving… and if you did use it while on-the-move, consider yourself a royal dirtbag for doing such a thing.

A little offbeat I know, but it’s late and I had to share. Steering wheel laptop stand FTW? Not a chance!

New York Times Goes Live with Free BlackBerry App

Like many (including my bud Ronen over at BerryReview), I could have sworn the New York Times already had a BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) App available for download. Guess I was wrong. The app I must have been thinking about was/is for the iPhone (I have it installed on my iPhone), and it’s a pretty darn good news app. All of the Times offerings to this point have been desktop shortcuts.

If the iPhone edition is any indicator, the BlackBerry edition should be solid for anyone wanting to get their fill of the Times. Articles are downloaded to your Berry’s memory for offline viewing, which is kind of handy. Especially if you find yourself in a ‘dead zone’ with no network coverage. Content is also optimized for your BlackBerry’s screen resolution, for optimal viewing and ease of use.

Just a late night quickie here for the BlackBerry Storm 9520 users. OS 5.0.0.341 has leaked and is available right here for download. Keep in mind this is a very unofficial release, so if you do decide to download and install, do so at your own risk. Backup your device and take all necessary precautions before you proceed. Or not.

Snaps of the Upcoming TELUS LG IQ

Earlier this month you may recall the TELUS LG IQ making a cameo in a Best Buy mobile ad. The device that was once a bit of a mystery is starting to come out into the light, today in the form of a few spy shots.

The IQ features a 3.2″ touchscreen, 5.0MP camera with video, and a full and somewhat luxurious slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The IQ will be TELUS (NYSE: TU)’ first device to offer Windows Mobile 6.5… I can’t imagine there being much (if any) demand for Win-Mo, but good on TELUS for mixing it up a bit here.

I’m by no means a Windows Mobile fan, but I’d sure like to get my hands on this bad boy… I’ll see what I can do…

Scotiabank Moving Forward with Mobile Banking in Spring 2010

Canadian banking giant Scotiabank has announced that they’ll move forward with mobile banking services in the spring of next year. With almost 13 million customers worldwide, me thinks a lot of folks are going to love the new features afforded to them. The new app will provide personal and small business customers with access to accounts from their mobile device, and much more.

Mike Henry, Senior Vice-President of Sales & Service at Scotiabank commented on the announcement:

“With more than 22 million cell phone subscribers in Canada, wireless phones are among the fastest growing consumer products in history Canadians rely on the convenience of mobile devices to help them manage their busy lifestyles, and having the ability to do their banking from their mobile devices will simplify their lives that much more.

The launch of mobile banking for Scotiabank customers next spring further demonstrates our commitment to offering innovative, convenient and secure banking solutions for our customers”

No details have been made available as to an exact launch date… But I’ll keep an eye on this one and provide updates on any developments as they happen.

OS 4.6.0.307 Now Available for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 via SK Telecom

A quick OS update for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 users out there. No, it’s not 5.0, but this release does bring us up to 4.6.0.307. You can nab the update here. This update is official, and comes to us from the SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) download site. If you could really care less, then hmmphhh… you might as well wait for 5.0, right?

If you do proceed, make sure you backup your device and take all necessary precautions. Even though this is an official release, sometimes things do go fubar with updates. Again, you can nab OS 4.6.0.307 for the Bold 9000 right here.

Note: On the download page, hit the dropdown and select ‘BlackBerry Bold (TM) 9000 smartphone’ to proceed.

Dubbed ‘My Account’, the apps are both available for free, and give you access to your Rogers or Fido account any time of day. To run these apps you’ll need at least OS 3.0, and yes, the app is available in both English and French.

Telstra Launches the BlackBerry Bold 9700 in Australia

That ain’t a knife… that’s a BlackBerry 9700! That’s exactly what Paul Hogan will say, the moment he walks into a Telstra store in Australia. At least that’s the event playing out in my head at the moment. Oh, that’d be awesome.

Why all the Crocodile Dundee nonsense? Because the Australian carrier Telstra has launched the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold 9700 of course! Australians can now get their hands on the latest edition of the Bold, for a whopping $999 Australian dollars. Just a tad expensive, for sure… However keep in mind that Telstra allows repayment over a period of two years.

To all of my Australian friends out there… Are you really going to pick up the new Bold for $999? Too expensive for your blood, or is this just the way things roll down under?

Pandora Radio for BlackBerry Updated to 1.1.2.1

Mobile Radio lovers with a BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) on their hip will want to take note of a Pandora Radio update. A new and very incremental version has been released for BlackBerry, moving the app to version 1.1.2.1. If you’ve never used Pandora before, it’s quite the powerful radio app. Check ‘er out.

As per usual, no changelog was made available with this incremental update… But I’d have to suspect the usual bevy of tweaks and bug fixes have been addressed to help make your experience that much better.

Staying on the T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) scene, a quick T-Mo 3G network expansion update for ya. Seems as though T-Mobile’s 3G network has recently expanded to Omaha, Nebraska! Congrats to all of the folks in the area! Previous to this update, T-Mobile’s 3G speeds touched down in Albany (Georgia), and Amarillo and Abilene (Texas) on the 17th. The end of the year is coming up soon… Will T-Mobile check off all the cities on their 3G network expansion list for 2009?

T-Mobile Publishes List of Black Friday Deals

Yesterday I told you about some rumored T-Mobile holiday deals… and wouldn’t you know it, not long after that one of the fine folks at T-Mo shot me a message to let me know the skinny for Black Friday. So, without further adieu, here is what T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) will have up for offer this Friday:

Motorola (NYSE: MOT) CLIQ with MOTOBLUR – $149.99 with a two-year service agreement (after $50 off)
BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold 9700 with Wi-Fi Calling – $149.99 with a two-year service agreement (after $50 off)
Samsung Highlight – $49.99 with a two-year service agreement (after $50 off)

So there you have it… straight from the horses mouth… or something. These deals will be available to both new and existing T-Mobile customers.

GL Golf for iPhone and iPod Touch Updated, and on Sale

Looks like my bud Jake over at Nuclear Nova Software has been hard at work on one of my favorite golf games for the iPhone and iPod Touch… GL Golf. He’s updated GL Golf (along with GL Golf Deluxe and ‘Lite’), bringing all versions up to 1.09. In the latest edition you’ll get 12 new courses (awesome), four new clubs, a 50% increase in performance and many, many, many bug fixes and tweaks.

To celebrate the update, Jake is offering GL Golf for $0.99 (regular $4.99) and GL Golf Deluxe for $5.99 (regular $7.99). The discounts are good for a week, so I’d recommend trying before you buy with the ‘Lite’ version… If you like, pick up the standard or deluxe version before next Monday to save a few bucks.
