T-Mobile under fire in Washington state over its no-contract advertising

T-Mobile is looking to shake up the mobile marketplace as the uncarrier. It’s first challenge isn’t going to be customer adoption, but an overeager attorney general looking to challenge the carrier’s no-contract marketing. Tickets for Apple’s WWDC 2013 event sell out within minutes

If you were relaxing today with the hopes of getting a ticket to WWDC shortly after they went on sale, you are likely disappointed right now. Tickets, which were on sale for about two hours last year, were gone within minutes today. Watching it unfold on Twitter was surreal —  back and forth bantering about the tickets rose like a crescendo right before the 10 am PDT sale time. Nokia to hold May 14th event in London, will let us see “what’s next”

Nokia is possibly ramping up for another mobile phone launch. The Finnish manufacturer announced today that it is holding a press event on May 14th in London. The invitation gives us a hint about the topic of the event by teasing “The Nokia Lumia Story Continues.” No other details were revealed, but we assume Nokia may take the wraps off at least one of its next generation Lumia devices. Verizon may offer $100B to buy Verizon Wireless from Vodafone

Verizon Wireless may be an American wireless carrier, but its controlling companies are split between the US and the UK. US communications company Verizon owns 55 percent of Verizon Wireless, while the remaining 45 percent is held by Vodafone. According to a report in Reuters, Verizon may offer Vodafone $100B in cash and stock options to take full control over the wireless company. Samsung confirms global supply of the Galaxy S4 will be constrained at launch

Samsung circulated a statement today that confirms the supply of the Galaxy S4 will be constrained at launch. The Korean manufacturer claims this low inventory is the result of “overwhelming global demand” for the handset. ”Due to overwhelming global demand of Galaxy S4, the initial supply may be limited. We expect to fulfill inventory to meet demands in the coming weeks.” For potential customers, this means the handset might be difficult to find at launch. Verizon pre-orders for the Galaxy S4 start tomorrow, arrives May 30th

It’s Verizon’s turn to announce its plans for the Galaxy S 4 and the carrier confirmed that pre-orders will start online tomorrow, April 25th. Verizon also announced via Twitter that the handset will land on May 30th in Verizon retail stores. Pricing will start at $199.99 with a 2-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate. Sprint delays in-store launch of the Galaxy S4

Sprint chimed in today and confirmed that inventory constraints have forced the carrier to delay the in-store launch of the Galaxy S4. According to the statement, Sprint will start selling the Galaxy S4 on Saturday, April 27 both online and through telesales. The in-store launch, also originally scheduled for the 27th, will be delayed until Samsung is able to provide Sprint with sufficient inventory of the flagship handset. MetroPCS shareholders approve T-Mobile USA merger

According to Bloomberg and Reuters, MetroPCS shareholders voted today on the proposed merger with T-Mobile and approved the deal. The merger has received approval from the FCC and the Department of Justice and was given the green light by the board of directors from both companies. The deal could close in the first half of this year and will bring 9 million new customers to T-Mobile. T-Mobile will also get access to MetroPCS’s regional cellular network, which will help the carrier as it builds out its 4G LTE network. [Via Read more

WWDC tickets go on sale April 25th, conference to be held June 10-14

Apple announced today that its yearly Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will kick off June 10 and go through June 14, It will be held at San Francisco’s Moscone West. Start preparing for the buying frenzy as tickets for  WWDC 2013 go on sale starting Thursday, April 25 at 10 a.m. PDT.  If previous years are any indication, tickets will sell out very quickly. T-Mobile launch of Galaxy S4 delayed until April 29

According to a report in TmoNews, the launch of the Galaxy S4 on T-Mobile has been delayed.  The Galaxy S4 was supposed to go on sale starting tomorrow, but a problem with inventory forced T-Mobile to hold off selling the phone until next week. The wireless carrier made the following statement: We know customers are really looking forward to getting their new Samsung Galaxy S 4 soon. Apple doubles capital return program, will shuffle $100B back to shareholders by 2015

Along with its earnings report, Apple also announced that it will return $100 billion to shareholders in the next two years.  This increase will take the form of an increase in dividend payments and a beefier stock buyback program. Apple’s board of directors decided to  bump up the quarterly dividend to $3.05 per share, a 15 percent increase that makes Apple one of the top dividend payers in the world.
