Amazon finally made the Kindle Fire Android tablet official this morning and we were able to get our hands on this Android-powered tablet. While there are some features that are missing that some may be disappointed with – namely the camera – the Kindle Fire is a very nice-looking tablet that should move a ton of units this holiday season. The Kindle Fire sports a 7-inch IPS touchscreen display with a very wide viewing angle, at a resolution of 1024 x 600, and the overall form factor reminds us of … Read more
We all knew it was coming, but it’s now official: Amazon has just announced the Kindle Fire, its first tablet computer. The Kindle Fire is an Android tablet that doesn’t look like your average, well, Android tablet. It’s skinned down to the bone, so you’ll never actually see the home screens or menus like you would on other tablets of its kind. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s also quite small. In fact, it very closely resembles the BlackBerry PlayBook in terms of appearance, size and even feel. … Read more
Were you getting tired of iPhone 5 rumors, too? Apple has finally given us a date to look forward to, not just to hear about its new smartphone, but a day to look forward to the end of all those ridiculous rumors. One iPhone model, or two? Radical new design, or minor upgrade? A major bump in hardware specs, or just a few sprinkled here and there? October 4 is the date, so be sure you’re tuned in so you get all the news as it happens. Although the event … Read more
Samsung showed us last night that it has plenty more to add to its Galaxy portfolio. If you thought the Galaxy S II devices weren’t enough, or that maybe the Galaxy Tab and Tab 10.1 were feeling a little lonely, how about a Tab 8.9? Or to accompany its smaller cousins, the Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0? The tablet shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of you, it’s practically identical to its big sister, the Tab 10.1, with the most noticeable and immediate difference being its weight and that … Read more
We saw the Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T at the unveiling event recently, and while we had a little bit of time with it, we really couldn’t get a feel for the device since it was tethered and tied down. Now that we have our review unit in tow, we’ve been able to spend a little more time with the device and can give you more thorough initial impressions. Oh yeah, and a photo gallery. The Galaxy S II is a pretty good Android device as far as high-end … Read more
Starting next week, a handful of New York City subway stations will have cell phone service for AT&T and T-Mobile users. There has been plenty of talk about getting wireless service in the city’s subway stations, but it seemed like a pipe dream. Now that it’s about to become a reality, New Yorkers are already beginning to ponder the pros and cons of being able to babble away into cell phones while impatiently waiting for never-on-time trains. Chelsea will be the first neighborhood to be blessed with this service, as … Read more
AT&T may be rolling out Mango, the update that will dramatically improve Windows Phone 7, on September 27 according to leaked information. This definitely jives with the details that we reported on yesterday, wherein we said the update is coming within the next week or two. The info was contained within a series of e-mails between AT&T employees, and the exchange was obtained by WPCentral. The Mango update was promised by Microsoft to release this fall, so it looks like the update might be right on time. Starting September 27, … Read more
It looks like two iPhone models will be coming in October, presumably the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S that everyone’s been yapping about. Forget what I said this morning about how tiring and obnoxious iPhone rumors are, because if we’re to talk about sources familiar with the matter, this one happens to sit on the Apple Board of Directors. It’s Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States. How did this info come about? TNW says: We’ve been informed by Toby Shapshak, the editor of Stuff Magazine in … Read more
Rumor has it that Apple is holding its iPhone 5 event on October 4, and quite frankly, I just really don’t care anymore. It’s not that I don’t care about the iPhone 5′s release, but how many announcement and launch date rumors have we heard in the past two weeks along? Five? Eight? So before you start holding your breath, know that nothing is ever official until Apple sends out its press invites. The information comes from AllThingsD, which sometimes hits the nail on the head when it comes to … Read more
Conan O’Brien has decided to employ the Lenovo ThinkPad Android tablet to power the awesome “Cone Drone,” a giant caricature of the comedian and talk show host. However, instead of seeing a face made of the same materials as the costume itself, it’s powered by the face of Conan himself–via the display of the Lenovo ThinkPad, an Android tablet that has mostly flown under the radar. Check out the video below for all the lulz.
Word is that the iPhone 5, which may launch alongside a souped-up version of the iPhone 4, an iPhone 4S, is going to find its way into the four major carriers in the U.S. However, T-Mobile CMO Cole Brodman, speaking at a town hall meeting for the carrier, might have inadvertently outed the possibility of the iPhone 5 coming to T-Mobile. Unfortunately, it’s just not going to happen this year. If Sprint ends up getting the iPhone 5, where does that leave T-Mobile? Just because the fourth-largest carrier in the … Read more
