Nokia Lumia 900 getting its Batman limited edition, too

We’ve already told you about the special Batman edition of Nokia Lumia 800; the Lumia 900 will get the same treatment, with such device soon hitting retailers in few European countries, including the UK, Germany and France. While we don’t know the price and the exact date when you’ll be able to get the new phone, we (think we) know what to expect. Basically, it’s a black Lumia 900 with an engraved Batman logo on the back. Moreover, I would assume the phone’s packaging will also get the Dark Knight Read more

IDC: Android dominates the smartphone market

The latest mobile numbers are out from IDC and, not surprisingly, it shows that Android and iOS are the clear leaders in the smartphone battle around the world. Google’s Android had a whopping 59 percent of the market for the first quarter of 2012. The battle between Android and iOS is much tighter in the United States but Android is clearly the leader when you look at the global perspective. Part of the reason for this is that Android has strong penetration in emerging markets like China and India, while Read more

Windows Marketplace now requires 7.5 Mango

We knew it was coming, and yesterday Microsoft turned off access to the Windows Phone Marketplace for devices that aren’t running Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. Microsoft made the move because it wanted only devices with the added security and performance enhancements built into Marketplace Windows Phone 7.5 to access the Market. Further, making Windows Phone 7.5 a requirement paves the way for features Microsoft is building into future Marketplace updates. Fortunately, nobody should be left out in the cold unless they choose to be; the Windows Phone 7.5 update is Read more

Thinking about getting the Nokia Lumia 900? Watch this video first!

People give me a lot of shit for saying that Windows Phone, in its current incarnation, is not a smartphone platform I’d recommend to others. In fact, every time I write about a Nokia Lumia device I get pelted with comments from mentally ill fanbois who say things like “you should never write about phones again” or “you’re saying all these bad things because you want Nokia to fail”. So with that in mind, let me present you with a video review of the Lumia 900 done by Steve Litchfield, Read more

Skype removed from the Windows Phone Marketplace for Lumia 610 owners

Remember when Skype for Windows Phone launched and we told you that the Lumia 610 wouldn’t be able to run it properly because it has just 256 MB of RAM? Hours after we said that, Nokia issued a statement that said we were wrong and that Skype has no problems running on “low-end” Windows Phones. Well guess what, Skype is no longer available for Lumia 610 owners in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Why? Here’s the official statement from Nokia Hong Kong: “Nokia attaches great importance to the launch of products Read more

Nokia Lumia 900 a top buy from Consumer Reports

When it comes to Windows Phone devices, the Lumia 900 is king. Our own Marin Perez gave the device an overall score of 8 out of 10 when he reviewed the Lumia 900 back in April, and those of us fortunate enough to have gotten our hands on the device came away very impressed. Nokia has managed to impress more than just us with its flagship Lumia Windows Phone device, however. In addition to Siri thinking it’s the best thing since sliced bread, the Lumia 900 has earned a top Read more

Nokia Lumia 900 doubles as a hammer

Nokia quality engineers Mike Myers and Chris Ruble took a page from the book of Sonim and created a torture test video with the Lumia 900. After the necessary disclaimer to not try this at home, the pair start by hammering a nail into the Lumia display. If that wasn’t enough make you cringe, then you should check out the next segment in which they use the phone as a hammer. It’s impressive. The video shows the strength of the materials that make up the phone. If you wondering what Read more

Samsung Omnia M caught at Italian web store with 294.99 EUR price tag

The brand new Samsung Omnia M has been caught at one web store just days after its official announcement. It’s Italian ePrice, which is listing the Windows Phone with the price tag of 294.99 EUR, which translates into some $380. Kinda steep for a smartphone with such specs; in comparison, the Nokia Lumia 710 costs 264.99 EUR, while its newer (though worse) sibling, Lumia 610, could be yours for 195.99 EUR. Now I don’t see why would anyone take the Samsung Omnia M over Nokia Lumia 710, but what do Read more

Samsung SCH-S759 Windows Phone coming soon to China Telecom?

Looks like Samsung is preparing to release a new Windows Phone in China. The new device, marked as SCH-S759, has been caught while getting necessary Wi-Fi and Bluetooth certifications, with some blogs (Blog of Mobile) speculating it’s destined to join China Telecom’s portfolio. Of course, until we get the official press release from either China Telecom or Samsung, that’s just a rumor. Then again, we do know both Samsung and Microsoft want a piece of the ever growing Chinese mobile market and in that sense we wouldn’t be surprised to Read more
