IntoMobile and Viigo proudly announce our new Mobile Portal – IntoMobile To Go!

In Blog Updates

IntoMobile To Go Viigo web portalWe know, it’s getting to be that time of year and, if you’re anything like us, you’re running around frantically trying to get your affairs in order before that dreaded wonderful deadline. All the hustle and bustle of the holiday season leaves us with less and less time to get our fill of tech-news – and we figure our readers are starting to feel the holiday-crunch as well. So, why not take all your tech-news with you?

The IntoMobile Team has joined forces with mobile-web pioneer Viigo to launch our Viigo-powered Mobile Web Portal – “IntoMobile To Go.” All your favorite websites (ok, they don’t have to be tech-sites), sports updates, finance news, weather, traffic – everything is mobilized through our Viigo-powered IntoMobile To Go Mobile Web Portal. This isnt your run-of-the-mill mobile-RSS-reader – IntoMobile To Go is a fully-functional and powerful application that puts the real web on your mobile phone. Why wait for full webpages to load? Our Web Portal mobilizes the content and displays the newest articles as easily-digestible posts. You don’t even need to hunt down specific RSS feeds for your favorite sites. The geniuses over at Viigo realized that it can be a hassle to find a particular website’s RSS feed – simply enter a website’s URL address and Viigo’s servers will mobilize the webpage’s content on-the-fly.

IntoMobile Mobilized Web Portal - Viigo IntoMobile To Go

The IntoMobile Mobilized Web Portal is available for free for all Windows Mobile and BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) users. We’re working to bring the Viigo-powered IntoMobile Mobilized Web Portal to Symbian and Palm (NSDQ: PALM) users, so sit tight, we’ll get it to you guys in due time. Meanwhile, WinMo and BlackBerry users can download our IntoMobile To Go through this link – or hit up our new Viigo button near the upper-right corner of our homepage (at the top of the sidebar). If you prefer to install the IntoMobile To Go client OTA (over-the-air) onto your mobile phone, simply point your mobile browser to this download link.

Ask the IntoMobile Magic 8-Ball – What is the future of mobile phones?

By Will Park on Friday, December 7th, 2007 at 4:00 PM PST
In Blog Updates

IntoMobile magic 8 ball says future of mobile phone industry is the UIIt’s been bugging me for a pretty good while. Why do I love the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone so damn much? Coming from the Windows Mobile camp (I used to be a hardcore WinMo fan – still am, just not as hardcore), and even having dabbled in the world of Nokia (NYSE: NOK), I’ve been used to having the latest and greatest when it comes to hardware features – 3G, autofocusing cameras with incredible optics, WiFi, GPS, slide-out QWERTY keyboards, expandable memory, more third-party applications than I knew what to do with…the list goes on and on. So, why the hell do I love this iPhone that doesn’t even have MMS capability (not to mention the lack of video recording, expandable memory, or, most importantly, 3G)? I’m constantly defending this damn phone from the likes of, well, everyone. They flout their phone’s features as being superior to the iPhone. It’s always badass camera this, 3G data that.

Anyway, I digress.

I recently attended an interesting panel discussion regarding monetization strategies for anyone in the mobile industry, and Doppelganger CEO Tim Stevens, mentioned that the user interface is key to attracting users and helps drive online revenue in the mobile space. So, that got me thinking – does the mobile phone UI play a key role in attracting consumers? The answer I arrived at was, yes – at least in the coming years. Currently, attention is focused on hardware, but the future of the mobile industry is the UI. Let me explain.

Tell Shiny Shiny what Style is and you can win a trip to 3GSM!

Shiny Shiny, in conjunction with LG, is holding a contest where 2 people will be given internships at Tech Digest and an all expenses paid visit to 3GSM in Barcelona. To enter the contest you have to watch the video below and be “absolutely fabulous,” in Suzy’s words.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ll be entering. I do have an internet crush on Suzy, but that isn’t going to get me any extra points. I’m probably going to do a video on Nokia (NYSE: NOK) too and that certainly isn’t going to win me any points with LG, but one can try!

Disclosure: I’ve been blogging for just over a year; what has changed?

tmnt Disclosure: Ive been blogging for just over a year; what has changed?

I completely forgot about my one year anniversary last week! On November 19, 2006 I started Ring Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and since then a lot has happened. I went to Spain for the first time in my life, the UK and now I’m living in Finland of all places.

In that one year a lot of my goals have changed as well. At first I wanted to be the number one Nokia blogger, the source that aggregated what awesome things people around the world were doing with their devices. That drive only lasted a few weeks; it quickly became obvious that I wanted to change things. The S60 operating system wasn’t what I thought it would be; devices were not what I was expecting them to be.

Meeting more and more Nokia people around the Dallas Campus and at various trade shows let me express the ideas floating around in my head to people, these ideas sparked conversations, and after a year these conversations have lead to several new friendships.

My goal now is to break through, to get into the company, to connect each and every one of you guys with the people inside who can change things. I’ve been applying for jobs at breakneck speeds, my friends and long time readers who follow me on Jaiku know this, but I want to tell all of you as well.

I successfully managed to get a short term, 1 month contract job at Nokia. It has nothing to do with devices, nor software, nor services. Simply put, it is my task to do a few edits to some videos internally and get them out on to the net. These videos are highly similar to Google’s Tech Talks or TED, by that I mean influential people talking to Nokia employees in an auditorium. The speeches given inside that room were only beneficial to the guys who could attend that meeting; it is now my responsibility to make those lectures and words of wisdom accessible to the world.

This means that there is money currently in my bank account that has come from Nokia. It is important that you know this because it affects our relationship of writer to reader. My goal, to repeat, is to get inside Nokia. I can tell you that the dream I have has not impacted my writing, but that is for you to decide.

The N82, N95, E61i, these are all just devices. When you get the chance to meet some of the people I have, who get the internet, get hardware, understand the future, then you realize that the energy and philosophy of the employees within a company are what impacts the devices that get released to the market. Without those people there is no Nokia and I want to be a part of that team. I hope you can understand why I have this dream.

I’m actively interviewing, I just got turned down from a job today actually, but I’m not a quitter. I made it this far and I’m not going home with my tail between my legs.

If any of this information makes you uncomfortable, then I can highly recommend to you these bloggers who have been, and still are, my personal inspiration and who have been on the net much longer than I have:

Most importantly I want to thank my team at IntoMobile. Without them I wouldn’t be able to be in Finland and do what I’m doing now. They’ve given me an opportunity that has completely changed my life and for that they commend my respect and praise.

Thanksgiving Day is here! We love turkey and ham and stuffing and pie and…well you get the point. We have a lot to be thankful for this year – great gadgets, great friends, but most of all, we’re thankful for our dear readers. At the risk of sounding a bit sappy, we’d like to take this moment to let you, our reader, know that we’re grateful for your support in making IntoMobile one of the fastest-growing mobile communities on the ‘net. That’s right, none of this would be possible without you guys and we wanted you to know that we appreciate you.

Thanksgiving Day

And, here’s a friendly little reminder for our US-readers – there’s a whole world out there beyond your mobile phone and RSS feeds, so make sure to take some time today to kick it with family and/or friends. At the very least, rest up for your Black Friday shenanigans. Oh, and don’t forget – AT&T’s Samsung BlackJack II and Sprint’s Motorola Q9c will get their launch-on tomorrow.

We’re at it again! The IntoMobile team is proud to announce the newest addition to our online IntoMobile Shops – the Accessory Store. With mobile games, mobile applications, and now mobile phone accessories available through our IntoMobile Shop, we’ve got you covered on all your mobile needs. You’ll find the Accessory Store under the IntoMobile “Shop” link in the navigation bar above.

And, to make things a little more interesting, we’re going to celebrate the launch of our new accessory store by giving away an incredible accessory!

The first 20 customers to buy at least $10 worth of accessories from the store will be entered in a drawing to win a FREE noise-canceling Bluetooth headset – the Gennum nx6000 Noise Canceling DSP (digital signal processing) Bluetooth headset that we reviewed not too long ago. This is one truly exceptional Bluetooth headset, and we’re sad to have to part with it. But, with more electronic gizmos than we know what to do with, we think it’s best that one of our lucky readers gets a chance to play with the Gennum nx6000 Bluetooth headset with FRONTWAVE DSP technology.

We will be notifying our winning customer via email, so make sure to enter your email during the checkout process.
