Samsung Galaxy Pocket clears FCC with AT&T’s 3G radio

Not sure whether this means the smallest member of Samsung’s Galaxy family of devices, Galaxy Pocket, will hit the U.S. market soon, but it’s definitely on the way to get all the paperwork ready for the big day. The model FCC engineers got to play with can perfectly sing along AT&T’s 3G network, though as we all know that doesn’t necessarily mean the carrier will pick it up. The way I see it, the device as petit as Galaxy Pocket is best fit for prepaid users who don’t want to Read more

AT&T gets three new LTE markets on April 8th

AT&T customers in Muncie and Bloomington, Indiana and Bryan-College Station, Texas are getting an extra-special visit from the Easter Bunny this Sunday. In addition to the standard assortment of chocolate and Sunday brunch, AT&T customers in these three locales will be waking up to a super-fast LTE network. Of course, they will need an LTE-capable device in order to gain access to these data speeds, which cost a bit more than the customary Easter loot. AT&T’s LTE network has seen data speeds faster than that of Verizon’s more-developed LTE network, Read more

Windows Phone Marketplace passes 80,000 apps

One of the biggest gripes many users have with the Windows Phone platform is the lack of applications available on the Windows Phone Marketplace. While no operating system should be judged based on the number of applications alone, customers care that their smartphones have access to applications they want and need in order to better their mobile experience (or, slingshot angry birds towards pigs in space). Windows Phone’s main competitors, Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS platforms both have amassed a whopping 450,000+ applications on their respective app stores. Microsoft’s store Read more

AT&T launches website that shows local towers in select locations

Do you wonder why your AT&T phone coverage is horrible in your home, but fantastic on your commute? Ever see an odd-looking tree and wonder if it’s a cell phone tower or a tree? If you ask those questions and more, then you should check out AT&T’s mobile network webpage. The page lists all the towers and network upgrades in select metropolitan and surrounding locations. It’s detailed enough to let you find towers within 2500 feet of your location. Not surprisingly the site emphasizes the new cell towers, broadband upgrades Read more

Best Buy says AT&T’s HTC One X release date moved to May 6th?

So you’re waiting for the HTC One X, huh? You’re not alone, we all want what looks to be one of the best smartphones ever made. The problem is that HTC is still not ready and neither are its carrier partners… According to AndroidCentral, Best Buy has apparently sent at least one customer an email saying the release date for a preordered One X has changed to May 6, 2012. That, of course, isn’t super revealing and as far as we know it could be that the electronics retailer is Read more

Nokia Lumia pre-orders start at AT&T, Walmart

AT&T has officially opened the floodgates for what it says will be their “biggest launch ever.” Yep, you can already pre-order the Lumia 900 for $99.99 through carrier’s website. Or if you want to go through Walmart, get the same phone for $50 less. Or (another “or”) if you’re new to AT&T’s network, take advantage of their current promotion to get $100 off on your purchase, effectively grabbing Nokia’s flagship smartphone for free. AT&T says that the first Lumia 900 units will ship on April 5th, with those preordering getting Read more

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for HTC Vivid significantly boosts performance

The HTC Vivid is one of the first smartphones in the US to get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update on AT&T and while most users will be content by being on the latest version of the OS, they’ll likely be more than happy with the vast performance increase. The guys over at VentureBeat put the newly updated HTC Vivid through a handful of benchmark tests and the optimizations within Ice Cream Sandwich yielded better results in each test. Collectively, the update looks to have increased overall performance of Read more

AT&T: Lumia 900 launch will be our biggest launch ever

The Nokia Lumia 900 is launching April 8 and AT&T is saying that this will be its largest launch ever. Yes, that even includes the iPhone. “At all levels, this is a notch above anything we’ve ever done,” Jeff Bradley, AT&T’s device head, said in an interview with CNET. It appears like the rumors of a $200 million marketing campaign for Nokia’s Windows Phones is going to turn out to be true, as Bradley says that consumers will know that the Lumia 900 is the carrier’s “hero phone.” With a Read more

AT&T quietly testing ‘Plus’ loyalty program in select markets

AT&T isn’t exactly the carrier that comes to mind when one thinks of customer satisfaction. In fact, AT&T often finds itself at the bottom of surveys taken by the likes of Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates. Despite negative consumer sentiment, it appears AT&T is taking the customer satisfaction issue fairly seriously, and is testing a customer loyalty program called AT&T Plus to customers in select markets. AT&T customers in Colorado, Minneapolis, and Houston who meet certain criteria are starting to receive small perks just for being a loyal Ma Read more

Verizon iPad lasts 24 hours as an LTE hotspot

In case you haven’t yet thrown your hard-earned cash at Apple for the 3rd-generation iPad, AnandTech may just have discovered one more tick for the “Pro” column of your pros and cons list. While the overall battery life for the new iPad falls between 8.5 and 9.3 hours depending on whether you have the LTE or WiFi variant, the new iPad can last over 24 hours if you use it as an LTE personal hotspot device with the screen off. While it would certainly qualify as the most expensive MiFi device Read more

Early HTC One XL benchmarks show two Qualcomm cores can most definitely hold their own

NVIDIA’s marketing department is desperately trying to convince the world that their quad core Tegra 3 chip is the pinnacle of human achievement. The thing is, it isn’t. The Tegra 3 uses four ARM Cortex A9 chips. Qualcomm’s new S4 Snapdragon on the other hand uses a pair of custom made Krait cores that deliver performance somewhere between ARM’s Cortex A9 and ARM’s next generation Cortex A15. While on the subject of the A15, don’t expect to see that inside any smartphones or tablets until 2013. But back to the Read more
