Moreover, at the moment I’m writing this, we see that Bell’s version will cost $199.99, which is $50 less than the one with TELUS’ contract. Rogers Wireless’ Galaxy Note isn’t listed at the moment, but since the operator’s logo is there, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before Rogers too joins the list.

There you have it. If you plan to get this super-big phone as soon as you can, this Valentine’s Day will be truly special for you.

The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Nexus has finally sailed onto North American shores, but alas, it’s not in the United States just yet. As of today, it’s on sale through Bell or Virgin Mobile in Canada.

The Galaxy Nexus is selling for $159.99 on Virgin Mobile, or if you are looking to save four pennies during these tough economic times, the Galaxy Nexus is just $159.95 on Bell. Both carriers require three-year contracts to get access to these prices. The smartphone is also available without a contract but be prepared to fork over $649.99 to truly call it yours.

For those of us in America, it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to start unwrapping that delicious Ice Cream Sandwich. There’s plenty of rumors floating around about release dates though. At first it was December 11th, then it was (tomorrow) December 9th, and now neither of those dates seem likely. One thing we do know: it will cost a steep $299.99 on a two-year contract.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus sports an enormous 4.65-inch display and is the first phone to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. We reviewed it a little over a week ago and it’s quite an impressive device.

It’s the Android phone to get if you can actually get it, and now, the lucky folks in Canada can.

Bell has announced that December 8 will be the launch day for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in Canada, with a pricetag sitting at $159.95 on a three-year contract, or $649.95 with no strings attached. When Bell initially made their announcement, there was some fishy language revolving around exclusivity, but from what I’ve gathered, it only extends over the holiday season; Rogers has confirmed that they’ll have the HSPA+ model available in January.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus promises to be a beast of a phone, boasting a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 21 Mbps HSPA+ connectivity, a 4.6-inch 1280 x 720 touchscreen, and a 5 megapixel camera. The hardware is nice and all, but the real fun stuff is on the software side. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will introduce some cool new tricks, like face recognition for phone unlocking, and Beam for quick file sharing between two NFC-enabled handsets.

If you’re interested in getting your hands on one on launch day, Bell has an interesting way to line up for the Galaxy Nexus on Twitter. You’ll have to send a tweet to Bell on December 1 between 10 AM and 11 AM, and retweet them every hour until 10 PM to keep your spot. The first 100 will get guaranteed shipment on December 8. Neat idea, and only half as degrading as camping out in front of the store. More info on the Twitter line-up here, or you can go ahead and pre-order here if you don’t care when you get it.

Up in Canada, Bell Mobility has confirmed that they’ll have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus available in early December. The word “exclusive” didn’t enter into the marketing parlance anywhere, so it’s probably safe assume that Rogers and TELUS will start talking about their launch plans too. (Update: Bell just confirmed that it is, indeed an exclusive!) Down in the U.S., the Galaxy Nexus will likely be enjoying a spread across all of the major carriers: Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be spearheading the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. Some of the new features include beaming content directly from one Android phone to another over NFC, unlocking by way of facial recognition, smartphone access to Honeycomb widgets, and a bunch of other improvements. Specs-wise, the Galaxy Nexus boasts a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 1080p video recording, and a buxom 4.65-inch 1280 x 720 touchscreen. Unfortunately, this will be the HSPA+ version and not LTE coming to bell, but battery life when burning through 5 – 12 Mbps downlink isn’t great anyway. Besides, if LTE is really your bag, the LG Optimus LTE is right around the corner.

I think we’re all pretty excited for the Galaxy Nexus, but the real fun will be the slew of new ICS handsets coming out afterwards, not to mention the software updates due for existing handsets. No word on pricing just yet, but if you’re in Canada, you can sign up for e-mail notifications from Bell on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus over here. Bell’s discount brand, Virgin, will also be offering the Galaxy Nexus.

Ladies and gentlemen it seems we can now confirm the day when Canada’s Bell will start offering the Optimus LTE. According to a leaked flyer from the carrier’s retail chain The Source (pictured above), arguably the single most powerful smartphone announced to date will be available on November 22, which is like 8 days from now.
What makes LTE’s baby that desirable is its awesome 4.5-inch True HD IPS display which is superior to the one Google Nexus Galaxy sports. Unfortunately, the Optimus LTE won’t come with Ice Cream Sandwich out of box (Gingerbread is running the show), though I’m sure an update is in works as we speak.

Now if we could also find out the launch date of the LG Nitro HD, which is AT&T’s version of the device…

The latest iteration of Motorola’s BlackBerry clone, the Pro+, has just landed in Canada by way of Bell Mobility.

Besides the familiar keyboard, the Motorola Pro+ packs 4 GB of local storage, a 1 GHz processor with 512 MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and a 3.1-inch 640 x 480 touchscreen. Connectivity includes 14.4 Mbps HSPA, which Bell would like you to think is 4G, as well as Wi-Fi b/g/n with mobile hotspot capabilities, and Bluetooth 2.1 with enhanced data rate.

As a BlackBerry guy, I can see the appeal of a phone like this. There aren’t many Android handsets out there rocking a portrait-oriented physical keyboard, and the ones that do still don’t hold a candle to RIM. While Motorola might be blatantly ripping off the BlackBerry style on that front, I can hardly blame them. It’s just too bad that the upgrade from Motorola Pro to Pro+ involved shrinking the battery down to 1600 mAh from 1860 mAh. I still really want to see the Motorola Admiral, which keeps the form factor, the giant battery, the nice keyboard, the latest version of Android, the 1.2 GHz processor, and throws in military-grade ruggedization for good measure. Something like that would have a good chance at winning me over from BlackBerry if I was a free man.

I’ll be interested to see the uptake for the Pro+ on RIM’s home turf where BlackBerry still rules the smartphone world. You can snag the Motorola Pro+ for free on a three-year contract, or $349.95 with no strings attached at the Bell online store.

We knew this is coming and voila – LG has officially announced Optimus LTE for Canadian Bell. Needless to say, LG’s superphone will get a prominent place in the carrier’s portfolio as the flagship LTE-enabled smartphone. The device we’re talking about is arguably the best Android smartphone ever made, even better than the Google Nexus Galaxy even though it doesn’t run Ice Cream Sandwich (but it’s safe to say it will get the update in the near future). There are four reasons for this: It has a better screen – ... Read more

There are four reasons for this:

It has a better screen – 4.5-inch 1280×720 pixels True HD IPS, which is the best phone display evar

It has an 8-megapixel camera – while the one Galaxy Nexus has counts “just” 5 megapixels

It’s LTE-enabled – though Verizon’s version will come with LTE

It has a faster CPU – 1.5GHz vs Nexus Galaxy’s 1.2GHz, both are dual-core

Rest of the specs are pretty much the same and include Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, and array of sensors, HDMI out, memory card slot and so on.

Unfortunately, LG “forgot” to mention the price in its press release so we’ll have to wait for Bell to find that out. Stay tuned…

Price is expected to be around $150 on a three-year contract, though there’s no mention of specific release dates.

Up in Canada, Bell recently announced their second LTE handset, after the HTC Raider. The LG Optimus has a big screen, lots of power, and high-speed wireless data to boot. Price is expected to be around $150 on a three-year contract, though there’s no mention of specific release dates.

We got a sneak peek at the device earlier this week, but just to recap, it has a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 touchscreen, dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video with LED flash, and a wide array of connectivity options, including HDMI, DLNA, and Wi-Fi direct support. With all of that, plus plugging into an LTE network supporting an average of 12 – 25 Mbps download speeds, this is going to be a monster of a phone.

Still, it’s not alone in Canada. Rogers just started launching an LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, though Telus still hasn’t made their LTE announcements just yet. Currently, Bell’s LTE network covers the Toronto area, including Mississauga, Hamilton, and Kitchener-Waterloo, as well as a pocket in the maritimes, spreading between Halifax and Dartmouth.

If you’re interested in picking one up, Bell has a landing page for the LTE LG Optimus, where you can enter a contest to win one in five, as well as sign up for e-mail updates.
