Deutsche Telecom would consider a merger, but won’t sell T-Mobile

According to Bloomberg, Deutsche Telekom AG  Chief Executive Officer Rene Obermann was speaking to a crowd of shareholders at an annual meeting in Cologne, Germany today and told them the telecom giant is not interested in a complete sale of T-Mobile USA. DT may be a bit gun-shy about a sale after its acquisition by AT&T collapsed when government regulators failed to approve the deal. HTC Amaze 4G Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update now live

We filled you in on the details a few days ago about the Amaze 4G’s upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich update, and it’s now officially available through T-Mobile. The update brings the Amaze 4G up to date with the latest version of Android, but still retains version 3.6 of HTC Sense. We can’t say that we’re sure why this is, but users will likely still be impressed with the enhancements found in Ice Cream Sandwich alone. To start downloading the update, go to Settings>About Phone> HTC Software Updates>Check, and you should Read more

Carriers resigned to accept high iPhone subsidies

While carriers have made it publicly known that they’re unhappy with how much they’re subsidizing the iPhone, don’t expect this practice to change anytime soon. According to All Things D, carriers are concerned that raising the prices consumers pay for iPhones will drive them away to alternative carriers that choose to leave the subsidy as is. Carrier trepidation makes sense when it comes to the iPhone; Apple’s smartphone beat out sales of every single other smartphone combined on the three major networks that carry the iPhone. Further, T-Mobile has recently Read more

T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S III hits the FCC

We did know T-Mobile will be one of the U.S. carriers to offer the shiny new Samsung Galaxy S III. Their specific version of the device, marked as T999, has not only crossed the FCC hurdle, but has also be spotted at Bluetooth SIG (while its Wi-Fi certificate has been issued before). What this means is that Samsung is finalizing paperwork for the Big Day, which will (as promised) take place at some point this summer. We’ve no idea whether the Magenta carrier will change the name of the phone Read more

T-Mobile: Shared data plans are not good for consumers

Amidst all the chatter from Verizon Wireless about being the first major carrier in the United States to offer shared data plans for families this summer, T-Mobile is taking a radically different approach. In a blog post, senior vice president of marketing at T-Mobile Andrew Sherrard made his views perfectly clear: shared data plans are not the way to go. “Some of our competitors are backing away from simple, unlimited data and moving to family shared data plans. But would this approach actually deliver a better value to consumers?  Do Read more

Samsung T699 user agent caught in the wild on its way to T-Mobile USA

It seems T-Mobile will be expanding its portfolio of Samsung smartphones in the near future. And I’m not talking about the brand new Galaxy S III, but something more affordable. Here’s the deal – T-Mobile’s version of the Galaxy S III is marked as T999, the Galaxy Note as T879, so what could the T699 be? Galaxy Nexus perhaps? It’s just a speculation at the moment, but the fact that its model number is lower than the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S III, as well as the 720p (720×1280 pixels) Read more

Verizon Wireless wont sell any phones from the current HTC One lineup

The HTC One series is considered by many to be HTC’s comeback product that’ll help the company regain some market share. The One Series is making its presence known in the US and is available on both AT&T and T-Mobile. Noticeably absent from the list of carrier partners is Verizon Wireless, which passed on the flagship One X and launched the mid-range Droid Incredible 4G LTE instead. This isn’t a mistake or a delayed launched, says a report in Android Authority. According to HTC spokesman Jeff Gordon, “Verizon is not Read more

T-Mobile talks ‘restructuring’ in an internal employee memo

According to a report by The Verge, T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm sent a memo to employees that details the carrier’s next round of restructuring. As expected, the restructuring plan includes the layoff of an unknown number of employees. These cutbacks will streamline the company and return it to growth. This isn’t the first time employees have faced cutbacks. Earlier this year, the carrier eliminated over 1,000 jobs when it closed and consolidated several call centers. Though the recent memo did not name which groups would be targeted for layoffs, the Read more
