In T-Mobile

Woohoo, we have some new coverage areas to report in T-Mobile (NYSE: DT)’s magical quest to expand their 3G network. The latest cities to be graced with T-Mo 3G are Springfield, Cape Cod and New Bedford (all in Massachusetts). Congrats to everyone in the area, and I hope the 3G speeds do you right. In the meantime, T-Mobile must be hard at work as there are many, MANY cities left on their list for the remainder of this years’ 3G expansion. Keep on keepin’ on T-Mobile, and best of luck the rest of the way.

Chances are if you were one of the eager beavers signing up on the T-Mobile myTouch 3G mini site, you have received an email to add fuel to the fire…. Pictured above, T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) has sent out this mailer to help build some much needed anticipation for device launch. Nothin’ too crazy here, but the mailer does point out that myTouch 3G pre-orders should arrive and be in-hand by August 3rd.
In case you missed it, a press event is scheduled for July 8th in New York City, where the myTouch 3G will be formally announced. From that point pre-orders for existing customers will be available. Latest rumors have the device available for general consumption on August 5th, but we’ll see. These dates have a way of changing.

In FCC, Samsung, T-Mobile
So long as we’re cruising by the FCC, Samsung has filed papers for a little something called the Gravity 2 (T469). The original Gravity just hit Rogers in March and T-Mobile in November, and already the sequel’s coming down the line. Little is known spec-wise, other than 3G support, but it’s probably safe to say the Samsung T469 will be a nice mid-to-low-range handset for heavy texters. You can expect the Gravity 2 to land on T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) in mid-July.

T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) has announced a July 8th myTouch 3G media event in New York City. It’s no surprise that this event comes on the same day that pre-orders are to become available. What a co-inky-dink, right?
At any rate, one thing is for sure… after this event we’re going to see many more leaks and spy shots of the myTouch 3G. Get ready for all of the black, white and ‘merlot’ myTouch 3G goodness you can handle. Again, the myTouch 3G media event will take place Wednesday July 8, at 11:00 AM EST.

With the launch of the myTouch 3G coming at us fast on T-Mobile (pre-orders July 8th, availability in August), more and more spy shots are due to leak out. Case in point, the shots of the ‘Merlot’ myTouch 3G I happened to stumble upon today. If you’re sick of the never-ending flow of black and white devices, the red, errmm, sorry, ‘Merlot’ version of the myTouch 3G might be a worthwhile change for the Android fanatic in you.
There she is, the T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) Magic in Red… Oops, sorry, I mean the T-Mobile myTouch 3G in Merlot. My bad.

In Eco, T-Mobile
T-Mobile U.S. just announced a cool new program that doles out coupons to ecologically-friendly shops via a mobile application called Green Perks. Some of their launch partners include Method, Jamba Juice, Volcom, Roxy and Quiksilver, with more doubtlessly on the way. Anyone with a data plan is eligible to download the app, although for the G1, you’ll have to make sure you allow non-Market applications to be installed in order to get Green Perks. Green Perks falls under T-Mobile (NYSE: DT)’s larger Mobilize program, where they promote eco-friendly mobile choices, like their paperless Green Account, and the recycled Motorola Renew. To get in on Green Perks, hit up their download page.

In T-Mobile

The T-Mobile 3G network expansion just keeps-a-rollin’ along. The latest metropolitan area to be blessed with T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) 3G goodness is the Shreveport, Louisiana area. Congrats folks!
Can’t recall off-hand if all cities listed in the Q2 expansion list have been checked off yet, but if not… I’d have to think T-Mo is close at this point. Q3 and Q4 of this year will see a whole whackload of areas getting the upgrade to 3G… including Oceanside, Hartford, Indianapolis, Nashville, St. Louis, Honolulu, Cincinatti and Cleveland to name a few!
More news to come on this shortly. Q3 is just around the corner!

Are you in the UK and can’t wait another moment to get your hands on the HTC Hero? If this is the case, there is some good news for ya, but be prepared to drop a few hard earned dollars, ermmm, I mean, pounds in order to make it happen.
Unlocked HTC Hero handsets are now available for pre-order via Amazon.co.uk. With a price tag of £429.99, the Hero’s offered up here are unlocked and sim-free. Apparently these devices will be released/shipped on July 15th.
If you don’t mind waiting just a little bit longer, both Orange and T-Mobile will have the HTC Hero up for grabs within the next few weeks. Both carriers are gearing up to offer the device free of charge if they can lock you into a new contract for a few years.
Still can’t wait huh? Check out the HTC Hero at Amazon.co.uk.

In Android, Devices, Rumors, T-Mobile

We’re all well aware that the T-Mobile myTouch 3G will be available for pre-order by existing customers on July 8th. But what we still don’t know for sure is the exact launch date. T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) graced us with an oh-so vague release date of ‘early August’, which left a lot of the die-hards reeling for more exact info.
Thanks to the good folks at Android and Me and their stellar sleuthing skills, they’ve uncovered what looks to be a launch date of August 5th. That’d be early August, no? Here’s how Taylor uncovered what he feels to be the launch date:
While browsing my Feedburner stats today, I noticed a new uncommon use from a domain I did not recognize. I typed in the URL and discovered the dev server for the official myTouch 3G website. To my surprise, they had a countdown widget in the lower corner that said “myTouch 3G in stores”.
After doing the math, I discovered the launch date to be August 5th, 2009. I needed to see how the widget was calculating the date, so I viewed the page source. A quick search revealed what I was looking for:
var launchTime = new Date(2009, 7, 5, 12, 0);
If you don’t know javascript, you might think the date was 7/5, but we know that is incorrect because the phone does not go on presale till 7/8. When calculating dates, January is the 0 month. So the actual launch date that is coded into the myTouch 3G launch site is August 5th.
I’m not going to share the dev server URL, but I took screen shots of the countdown widget and javascript. I really doubt anyone would go through the trouble to fake this, so I would assume it is real. You be the judge.
Very interesting. August 5th, eh? Can’t confirm or deny it at this point…. But this seems more than reasonable to me.

In Android, HTC, Hottest Hardware, T-Mobile, UK News
Orange UK had gone public with their HTC Hero announcement, but T-Mobile (NYSE: DT)’s getting in on the action too, according to a recent public tweet. Taking on the name G1Touch, T-Mobile is clearly keeping this one in the established G1 family, a brand that might seem a little dated given Vodafone (NYSE: VOD)’s claim on the sexier HTC Magic. If you missed the launch earlier this week, the G1Touch is a teflon-coated, Android-powered beast of a smartphone. A new Sense user interface by HTC ties in tightly with Facebook, and makes a significant update to Android’s default look. Now, how much hope do we have that the G1Touch will cross the pond and hit up T-Mobile’s American counterpart?
