UK Recap: who, what, and where for the Blackberry Bold

Posted by Ben on Saturday, September 6th, 2008 at 12:38 pm under RIM, T-Mobile, Three, Vodafone, Orange, O2

UK Recap: who, what, and where for the Blackberry BoldAs Dusan previously reported (here and here), the Blackberry Bold 9000 (RIMs new HSPA email uber-phone) is now for sale with Orange and Vodafone in the UK. But where else can you get it?

Well apparently, 3 is going to be carrying it in November. That only leaves T-Mobile and O2, who we’ve not really heard a peep from. Previous rumours suggested sometime in Q3 for the Operators, but right now the the respective websites only have the 8110 and 8310 listed.

Of course, another strategy you can employ is to go SIM-free - sure it will hurt your wallet in the short-term, but at least you are not going to be locked in to a longer contract that you already have. In that case, you can wander on over to Expansys, where the device is currently £619.99 (correct at time of posting).

Whichever route you decide to take, you’ll be getting a universally-acclaimed device - the screen in particular seems to have come in for endless praise - and of course, you’ll have all that Push-email goodness!

Sony Ericsson TM506 now available on T-Mobile for $79.99

Posted by Dusan on Saturday, September 6th, 2008 at 10:58 am under T-Mobile, Sony Ericsson, Devices

Sony Ericsson TM506

We’ve talked about it two weeks ago and now it’s happening. The Sony Ericsson TM506 is now available on T-Mobile. You should be able to grab it everywhere, but the point is to use it on the mobile operator’s 3G network — that’s in case you’re lucky enough to live in one of the areas where T-Mobile’s 3G works. Aside from the 3G radio, the device sports a GPS with TeleNav support, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, music player, and a Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot. It’s available for $79.99 with a 2-year agreement and $50 mail-in rebate…

T-Mobile Shadow II (2) release date and pricing details

Posted by Will on Friday, September 5th, 2008 at 12:55 pm under Rumors, T-Mobile, HTC, Windows Mobile, Devices

T-Mobile had a consumer-hit on their hands with the consumer-friendly T-Mobile Shadow smartphone. Taking HTC’s wares and re-branding it as the T-Mobile Shadow was a good idea and it looks like T-Mobile is making good on their promise to continue on with the Shadow lineup of consumer-friendly smartphones.T-Mobile Shadow II 2

The T-Mobile Shadow II (2) has been floating around of late, with various spy pics and details leaking out on to the various interwebs. It was only a matter of time before definitive pricing and availability information was released.

The T-Mobile Shadow II will apparently launch on T-Mobile (naturally) on October 15 with a $149.99 price tag (after rebate and new contract, of course). The release date falls nicely in line with our Q4 2008 launch expectations.

The T-Mobile Shadow successor is set to hit the scene with Windows Mobile 6.1 in tow, and should make quick work of web surfing or VoIP calling with integrated WiFi. The inclusion of WiFi also means the T-Mobile Shadow II will be getting down with the carrier’s T-Mobile HotSpot @Home UMA service for those times when you just don’t want to use wireless minutes to make a call from your home.

The T-Mobile Shadow II is, just like its predecessor, based on hardware from HTC. This time around, T-Mobile has taken the HTC Cleopatra and re-branded the handset as the T-Mobile Shadow II.

What’s not clear is whether or not the T-Mobile Shadow II will support T-Mobile’s nascent 3G network on the 1700Mhz AWS band. T-Mobile, for some reason, isn’t all that forthcoming about which of their new handsets will be compatible with the up-and-coming 1700Mhz 3G network. The carrier has previously failed to mention 3G compatibility on upcoming handsets like the Sony Ericsson TM506 Bella, only to turn around later and admit that the handset was 1700Mhz 3G-compatible all along. So, the T-Mobile Shadow II will likely be a 3G T-Mobile handset, but we’ll stop short of declaring it so.

BlackBerry Curve 8320 with BlackBerry OS 4.5 hitting AT&T soon

Posted by Will on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 at 2:20 pm under BlackBerry, Rumors, T-Mobile, RIM, Devices

Leave it to Boy Genius to get their hands on internal documentation from AT&T that gives us insight in to the BlackBerry Curve 8320’s future on AT&T’s network.

The WiFi-toting BlackBerry Curve 8320 has already hit T-Mobile as a globe-trotting handset, so it only stands to reason that AT&T get their own, Sapphire Blue-colored variant of the BlackBerry Curve 8320. What’s more, the internal docs confirm that AT&T cutsomers will be getting a taste of the latest BlackBerry OS 4.5 with their Sapphire Blue BlackBerry Curve 8320.

The BlackBerry Curve 8320 will apparently hit AT&T with the same 2 megapixel camera, microSDHC card slot, and Bluetooth 2.0 that we’ve come to expect. Look for the Sapphire Blue BlackBerry Curve 8320 to drop in the last week of September. Pricing information isn’t available yet, but expect subsidized pricing to be fair and affordable.

Yellow MOTOACTV W450 coming to T-Mobile?

Yellow MOTOACTV W450 coming to T-Mobile?

T-Mobile will apparently be adding the yellow MOTOACTV W450 in early September. Nothing too exciting here, except if you’re living a way-too-active lifestyle and require a water-resistant mobile phone with basic features and a media player.

Aside from the obvious ruggedness, there’s nothing special on the W450. Bluetooth support, 1.3 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot combined sound so last year. Then again, the Deutsche Telekom owned mobile operator will sell the yellow device for about $30-50 and that’s about as good as it gets for the money…

Android-powered HTC Dream caught in the wild

HTC Dream

Ladies and gents today we’re presenting you with the first leaked photos of the Android-powered HTC Dream. As you can see from the image above — and more images after the jump — the device clearly wears the T-Mobile badge. The QWERTY keyboard doesn’t look that great, though, and I wonder why HTC and Google haven’t opted for the similar-kind-of-keyboard HTC uses in its Touch Pro model. That one looks much better. Anyway, don’t want to put the device down prior to trying it… Keep reading for more photos.

HTC Dream G1 scale mockup reveals design

Posted by Will on Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 at 6:14 pm under GPhone, Android, Rumors, T-Mobile, Windows Mobile, HTC, Devices

And the HTC Dream leaks keep on coming. Not that we mind, or anything.

Following on the recent publication of the HTC Dream’s length and width dimensions, courtesy of the FCC, a newly leaked scale wire-frame mockup of the HTC Dream gives us a glimpse of what to expect when the HTC Dream G1 launches in the not-too-distant future.

The rightmost diagram includes measurements that can be applied to the rest of the scale mockups. In doing so, we find that the HTC Dream G1 is likely going to hit somewhere between 16mm and 17mm in thickness. That means the HTC Dream will be portlier than the iPhone but slimmer than the QWERTY-wielding HTC Touch Pro and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1.

HTC Dream G1 Android design drawings

And, adding a little bit of a twist to our HTC Dream-story, the HTC Dream looks to be sporting a bit of a “chin.” The lower-section of the device - below the huge touchscreen (how huge, we still don’t know) - sports a “kicked out” lip. There’s speculation flying around that the HTC Dream will be an “arc slider” with that “chin” tilted toward the user. We’re not sure if the “chin” will make it to final production, and we’re not sure if we like it or not.

So, to sum it up, we know that the HTC Dream will be sporting the long-awaited Android OS, a gloriously high-resolution touchscreen display, super-fast CPU, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and the regular assortment of high-end accouterments befitting a smartphone of the HTC Dream’s caliber. Now, we have the dimensions of the device - 115 x 55 x ~16.5 mm - and a darn good idea of the HTC Dream G1’s overall design.

Now, the next step is to get one of these badass Android-powered smartphones in our hands. With a little luck, the HTC-gods will drop off an HTC Dream at our doorstep sooner rather than later.

HTC Dream G1 sized up by FCC

Posted by Will on Monday, August 25th, 2008 at 5:56 pm under FCC, T-Mobile, HTC, Windows Mobile, Devices

The HTC Dream G1 is about as out-of-the-bag as it can be. But, what we don’t know about the HTC Dream G1 is how big the device will be. It’ll be a huge hit, that much is certain, but what about the HTC Dream G1’s physical dimensions.

HTC Dream G1 sized at FCC

The FCC has just approved the first Android-powered handset, the HTC Dream G1, for US-duty. What we’re seeing is that the HTC Dream G1 is quite a bit smaller than we expected. The HTC Dream, which should be hitting T-Mobile in the next couple months, will be a solid 115mm long and 55mm wide. It’s about as tall and wide as the iPhone and iPhone 3G. Unfortunately, the FCC didn’t see fit to include thickness measurements in their documentation.

We’d imagine that the HTC Dream G1 will be at least slightly thicker than the iPhone 3G, due to the slide-out QWERTY keyboard. But, that doesn’t meant the Dream will be a fat monster. Considering that the HTC Touch Pro’s slide-out keyboard maintains the device’s slim and svelte lines, we expect the HTC Dream G1 to be a sleek device.

T-Mobile confirms Sony Ericsson TM506 Bella with 1700Mhz AWS 3G support!

Posted by Will on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 1:07 pm under T-Mobile, Sony Ericsson, Devices, Announcements

Sony Ericsson TM506 Bella hitting T-Mobile with 3GT-Mobile USA is all about their nascent 3G network recently. They’ve lit-up their 1700Mhz spectrum of 3G goodness in a smattering of cities across the US, but the US wireless carrier has been tight-lipped as to whether or not its 3G-compatible handsets are indeed 3G capable on T-Mobile’s AWS 1700Mhz 3G network. Today we’re getting more details on T-Mobile’s latest 3G handset - the Sony Ericsson TM506 Bella.

Last we heard, the Sony Ericsson TM506 was headed to T-Mobile in your choice of two color schemes. The Bella, as it’s known internally, was expected to  land on T-Mobile’s network with a 2 megapixel camera, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and myFaves support - with a tri-band (850/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio. We speculated that the Sony Ericsson TM506 Bella would hit T-Mobile with a dual-band 3G radio in tow, but previous promotional materials left us wondering if T-Mobile was ever going to take the 3G-wraps off the SE Bella.

Well, T-Mobile has confirmed that their upcoming Sony Ericsson TM506 Bella will indeed be launching with a a dual-band (1700/2100Mhz) 3G radio to pull down wireless data at near-broadband speeds. The slim and stylish clamshell is expected to deliver 9.5 hours worth of talk time on GSM networks, with 3G calling good for 3.5 hours.

As expected, T-Mobile should launch the Sony Ericsson TM506 in early September. Pricing information is still not available.

Samsung F480 aka Tocco coming to T-Mobile?

Samsung F480 aka Tocco coming to T-Mobile?

T-Mobile is working to add the stylish Samsung F480 aka Tocco to its portfolio. As you can see from the image above, the device looks real with T-Mobile logo and soon enough we may see the Deutsche Telekom owned mobile operator officially going out with the device in the States.

Unfortunately at this stage we don’t have any information about the release date nor pricing. However, we do now this baby sports a 5 megapixel camera and a GPS. Some other rumors suggest it may also come with a capacitive touchscreen and a Wi-Fi support, though we’re not sure about those two. The ultra-cool TouchWiz UI should be on board as well.

Our eyes and ears are on the street. Stay tuned in the meantime…
