Unfortunately, we’ve no idea when TELUS will start selling the best mobile device LG has ever made, though we hope that will happen sooner rather than later.

The above image comes from LG Canada’s website, clearly showing TELUS as one of carriers to offer the beast phone. Why is it a beast phone, you may wonder? Well, aside from the fact that it’s as powerful as the Galaxy Nexus, it also has the best 4.5-inch 720p screen. Unfortunately, it still runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread though an Ice Cream Sandwich update will be released shortly.

Following up on their launch of the BlackBerry Curve 9380, Telus is prepping to launch an entry-level version of the BlackBerry Bold 9900. The BlackBerry 9790 made a stampede-worthy debut in Jakarta, but as far as Canada goes, TELUS isn’t alone. We’ve seen live Bold 9790 units drifting into Rogers stores, and Bell is likely to be launching on December 2 as well.

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 isn’t as big of a step down from the 9900 as the Curve 9380 was from the Torch 9850 / 9860, and that’s reflected in the price; the 9790 will be going for $130 on a three-year contract, which is only $40 cheaper than the 9900. The touchscreen measures 2.4 inches and 480 x 360 pixels, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus, runs on a 1 GHz processor with 768 MB of RAM, and has the same OS 7 experience we’re seeing on RIM’s latest smartphones. There’s also NFC and a magnetic compass included for augmented reality apps. You can get a look at our hands-on video over here.

I’m not entirely convinced RIM needs a QWERTY smartphone that sits between the properly entry-level Curve 9360 and the top-end Bold 9900, but some people might prefer the smaller form factor. It would be nice to see this phone on the little guys like Wind Mobile and Mobilicity in Canada, since folks generally buy devices from them without subsidies, which means significant cost for buying a device up-front. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any news about a U.S. release, but for those up north, you can find the Bold 9790 in the TELUS online store over here.

Motorola will soon launch a feature phone called the MOTOKEY SOCIAL. We’ll assume that the person who came up with the product name has an IQ comparable to that that of an abused chimp who inhabits an office where every caps lock key on every keyboard is glued down. Anyway, here’s what we know about the device other than the mildly offensive name: 2.4 inch 320 x 240 pixel screen, QWERTY keyboard, quadband EDGE, dualband (850/1900 MHz) 3G, WiFi b/g, 3 megapixel fixed focus camera, 910 mAh battery, 105.5 mm x 60 mm x 9.98 mm body, 87 gram weight, and best of all the color: “Smoke Gray with Licorice accents”. Sounds absolutely scrumptious! Canadian operator Telus will be selling this thing to prepaid customers, but they didn’t actually tell us how much it’s going to cost, so … yea, it’s difficult to recommend it because we don’t know what they’re asking for it. About 10 days ago Nokia introduced the perfect competitor to this thing called the Nokia Asha 200. For 60 Euros it has roughly the same specs, minus the WiFi and touch screen. For 115 Euros there’s also the Asha 303, which has WiFi and a 2.6 inch touch screen.

Now if you’re considering any of the 3 devices listed above, stop. Why do you want a feature phone? Are you the “all I do is talk and text” type? If so then why are you looking at something that’s marketed as giving you easy and cheap access to Facebook? If you’re going to do something, do it right. Buy yourself a used smartphone, shove a SIM card in it, and get on with your life. Let’s assume for a moment that the MOTOKEY I SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM will retail for $100. For a little bit more money ($140 total) you can buy a used Nokia E71, arguably one of the best smartphones to ever come out of Finland.

Ask yourself, is a feature phone really worth it? No. It’s not.
