You know when someone messes up sooo badly that its even funnier when they try to fix it? Well, that happened to UTStarcom (NSDQ: UTSI) at CTIA. They dropped the ball when they put up a HUGE banner depicting the upcoming Sidekick ID. That’s the kind of mess up where all you can do is shake your head in embarrassment. And to make matters worse, the boys at UTStarcom covered up their mistake with a good ole can of black spray paint. Thanks to the guys at Gizmodo for their investigative photo-taking. iqzone Inc. launches their innovative SnapSendSell (TM) mobile classifieds service today, at CTIA. The world’s first system of broadcasting and searching classifieds on your mobile device is now live and being showcased at iqzone’s CTIA Wireless booth #381.

In less than 60 seconds, you can broadcast a classified ad from your mobile phone, and have it viewed by other moble users. As the name of the service might suggest, users snap a picture, send it to an email, and wait as it sells.

But the service doesn’t stop at just pictures, with the ability to take video clips of the item you want to sell, you can bring even more detail and appeal to your item. A text description can be attached (you do have a qwerty keyboard on your mobile, don’t you?) to the item’s picture or video clip. And sending the item to the server is as easy as emailing it to ad@iqzone.com. Once uploaded, the “intelligent agent then categorizes and maximizes exposure of ads, broadcasting them to the universe of relevant online and print classifieds.”

With a flick of your fingers and a flip of the phone, users can broadcast and access mobile classifieds for everything from cars and video games to concert tickets and jobs. And with video clips, users can create personalized ads – allowing personal introductions and even demonstrations of your item. All this can be done without the need to download or install any software, just about anyone can get in on the action.

And the possibilities don’t just stop there, as the press release suggests:

Classified ads are just the beginning. iqzone can also be used to connect with friends, promote events, post messages or share photos, video and blogs. With nearly one billion mobile phones worldwide, the possibilities are endless.

This really is turning into the “year of the mobile” as technologies converge to allow TV, music, social networking, office solutions, and now classifieds – all on your mobile phone. Qualcomm unveiled the addition of a new product supporting CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. B to its roadmap. The new Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM7850 chipset is the industry’s first device solution for EV-DO Rev. B, and is set to deliver highly advanced capabilities for next-gen data and multimedia services, at downlink data speeds of 9.3 Mbps over the 5 MHz spectrum.

The new device chipset provides support for EV-DO Rev. B with full backward compatibility, and should provide manufacturers with a highly integrated, flexible solution to deliver the capabilities of Rev. B on consumer products. A software upgrade release to enable Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s Cell Site Modem (CSM) CSM6800 solution to support multi-carrier EV-DO Rev. B will be available by the end of Q1 2007.

emoze is the first company to offer a central server solution with a seamless connection via an Outlook Web Access (OWA). The expanded service offering is completely free of charge to both consumers and businesses.

The process for using the central server is simple. When downloading emoze, users are given a choice of using their own PC or the central server as a connector. If the user chooses the central server, they will have to install the emoze mobile client and will then be prompted to provide their OWA credentials which are encrypted and stored locally on their own mobile device.

The new option is particularly suited for users not wishing to leave their PC running to enable push email and PIM data.

Both the PC connector and central server options are highly secure, and use efficient encryption mechanism, decryption and data compression technologies.

At the end, emoze announced future central server upgrades that will handle connections to Lotus web-access Gmail, Yahoo! mail and other popular email services.

Glu Mobile’s award-winning games are set to hit the U.S. mainstream market, as Thumbplay announced an agreement with the global game publisher. Popular games such as World Series of Poker Texas Hold’em, Centipede, MONOPOLY, Diner Dash, Deer Hunter 2, Zuma and Super K.O. Boxing!, will be available for purches from Thumbplay’s website.

Adobe and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) have announced a deal, under which Verizon will be an exclusive wireless carrier launch partner in North America for delivering all new Adobe mobile applications, and will be the first wireless operator on the continent to bring Adobe FlashCast based data services to mobile subscribers, in H2 2007.

Adobe FlashCast technology enables personalized, intuitive data services through a new generation of Adobe Flash Player compatible mobile applications called channels. Users will be able to easily discover and enjoy up-to-the-minute, always-on channels with a breadth of information, including sports, weather, news, entertainment, music and more. Rich content is packaged in an engaging way, with an easily navigable and branded user interface that is designed to differentiate and drive customer loyalty.

Verizon Wireless’s FlashCast service is expected to include a series of basic and premium channels across a wide variety of handsets. Premier content providers and leading media brands are currently building channels that are expected to be available for Verizon Wireless subscribers.

Bluestreak Technology, developer of the MachBlue platform for mobile television, announced it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program. The Bluestreak’s move signals the company’s continuing support for the growing market of Symbian smartphones.

MachBlue Mobile implements a subset of the Flash 7 specification, supplemented with the MachBlue Mobile API, which enables enhanced handset control and integration.

Bluestreak Technology was one of the sponsors of the co-located CTI event, Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live!.

The new LG VX9400 shows off its features at CTIA this week. And with EVDO and V-Cast mobile TV, there’s quite a lot to show off! The integrated program guide makes quick work of finding that TV show to watch on the convenient-to-watch-in-landscape-mode 2.2″ lcd screen.

And of course a media phone like this needs to have media playing capabilities, with MP3 and WMA playback through its music library application, the VX9400 has that end covered. Short range connectivity is made possible through a range of different bluetooth profiles, including A2DP and object push. And rounding out the feature set is the 1.3 megapixel camera, with plenty of space for pictures and videos on a removeable microSD card.

In their push to expand mobile broadband options for the consumer, Sprint (NYSE: S) announced today, at CTIA, the availability of the Cisco Enzo 3G router. With “Cisco® 3G Wireless WAN (WWAN) High-speed WAN Interface Card (HWIC) solution used within the Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISRs),” the router will connect to Sprint’s own broadband network.

The broadband service and the router has been undergoing extensive testing and will be marketed as a “primary or backup access for business-critical applications.” Now, there aren’t any solid pricing or release details, but we can tell you that Sprint is planning a commercial release in the summer of 2007.

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Research is at it again, as they announce the launch of their new ZenZui service today at CTIA. ZenZui is explained as a novel approach to mobile browsing, incorporating a “zooming user interface.”

The new system is based around optimized content “tiles” that can be zoomed in on using your numeric keypad. Apparently, an open API will be released to developers to create these content tiles, ranging from weather and news to mini games and more. Tiles can be transferred from user to user and will generate ad revenue based on number of views. Making the mobile browsing experience more community oriented sounds like a promising idea as more mobile users are getting online.

During his keynote at CTIA today, Randall Stephenson, top exec. for AT&T (NYSE: T) Inc., gave a boost to his otherwise drab presentation. When he pulled out the legendary Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone in the middle of his speech, the whole room came alive with camera flashes and buzz, reports Yahoo News.

The iPhone’s brief glimpse was cut short when it was escorted backstage to be taken under guard back to safety. But just before it could be ushered away, FCC chairman Kevin Martin got a chance to play with the thing. And apparently, Mr. Martin was quite enamored with the device. So much so that Stephenson thought “he wouldn’t give it back.” It seems that even the FCC chairman is part of the 1 million Americans who wants an Apple iPhone. Can you blame him? At least he’s in a position to get the iPhone before anyone else. Lucky guy.

Kyocera (NYSE: KYO), a leading manufacturer of CDMA devices, just announced five new-look handsets from its 2007 product lineup at the CTIA Wireless 2007 trade show. Let’s start by introducing each one of them briefly…

Kyocera E5000 is an elegant, slim handset featuring a new kind of clamshell design – patent-pending sculpted “S” hinge made of stainless steel. This device sports a high-speed 1xEV-DO, a 1.3 MP camera, a 2″ QCIF+ internal TFT display, the touch-sensitive external music controls, a Bluetooth with A2DP support and its memory is expandable with microSD cards. The E5000 will be available in the fall this year.

Kyocera E2000 is a stylish mid-range device that impresses with its high-gloss black exterior. In terms of specs, the E2000 brings the same features as E5000. Announced availability date is also the same (fall 2007).

Kyocera E1000 is stylish low-end device that boasts a 1.3 MP camera and a Bluetooth connectivity. The E1000 uses cost-effective CDMA2000 1xRTT technology, and is set to be released this summer.

For SMS junkies, Kyocera prepared its M1000 model that comes with a full QWERTY keypad. Interesting thing about the M1000, it can be used in both open and closed mode. The device also packs a 1.3 MP camera, two TFT displays (internal – 1.8″, external – 1.5″), and will hit the carriers’ offerings on summer 2007.

Kyocera S1000 is a real low-end device. If you need an affordable handset, you can’t get many phones that will be more affordable than the S1000. It’s designed for someone who simply wants to make a call and doesn’t want to pay anything extra for features they may not use. Availability: summer 2007.

SanDisk today announced a 4 gig Memory Stick Micro card. Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) handset owners should appreciate this news, as now they will be able to hold up to 1,000 songs, 2,000 high-resolution photos or 20 hours of MPEG4 video, on a single card.

The M2 card is format was co-developed by SanDisk and Sony to meet the growing storage needs of highly compact, multimedia mobile phones. M2 measures or 15×12.5×1.2, making it the second smallest flash memory media in the world, behind the microSD format.

Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) keeps pumping out new technologies. Their latest announcement involves a new single-chip device that is expected to drive GPS applications into mainstream mobile phones. Built on TI’s innovative DRP single-chip technology, the NaviLink 5.0 solution has a footprint of 25mm2, delivering high performance with the industry’s smallest solution size and lowest bill of materials, making GPS more affordable to accelerate adoption in mobile phones. The new NaviLink 5.0 GPS receiver architecture provides fast “time to first fix” in weak signal conditions.

The NaviLink 5.0 solution supports both assisted-GPS (A-GPS) and stand-alone modes of operation. Unlike other GPS architectures, the NaviLink 5.0 chip requires minimal host loading and memory requirements, providing system design flexibility and reduced power consumption, which are key concerns for handset manufacturers. The chip also exceeds 3GPP and OMA SUPL performance requirements, enabling ease of integration in mobile phones.

To put it in plain English – cheaper GPS chips, mean cheaper GPS-enabled devices. And the new TI’s NaviLink 5.0 solution is expected to be in high volume production in 4Q07, meaning we’ll have to wait for the next year to see the new, more affordable location-aware devices.

Announcing the Windows Mobile 6 update for Treo 750 owners is just not enough for Palm (NSDQ: PALM). The company also revealed the newest additions to its line of hands-free accessories, as well as new Treo cases and a GPS navigation kit.

Treo fans should not have any problems finding the right case for their favorite smartphone, or pick one of the handsfree kits…

Announced accessories include:

• The Comfort Plus DSP Hands-free Car Kit – an affordable option for Treo 680 and Treo 750 customers, this kit has an estimated U.S. street price of $199.

At CTIA, Sprint (NYSE: S) Nextel announced further progress with the development of its upcoming Mobile WiMAX advanced multimedia network.

In addition to previously announced WiMAX U.S. service areas (Chicago, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio), the carrier also named new service markets – Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Boston, Philadelphia, Providence, Denver, Portland, Salt Lake City and Seattle.

In terms of the hardware, Sprint has chosen Samsung for PC cards available in both single WiMAX mode and dual CDMA 1xEV DO/WiMAX mode for WiMAX service launch use. Additionally, Sprint has selected ZTE Corporation to supply multiple WiMAX 802.16e devices including PC cards in express and USB form factors as well as advanced modem solutions; and ZyXEL Communications Inc. for modem products.

The Sprint Nextel’s U.S. WiMAX network will be built by Motorola (NYSE: MOT), Samsung and Nokia (NYSE: NOK), and the company plans initial service launches in several markets by yearend 2007. The commercial service availability is expected in a number of markets by April 2008, ultimately reaching 100 million people across the country by yearend 2008.

During the 2007 CTIA Wireless, Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) will be demonstrating, to select media, a prototype of a DLP pico-projector small enough to fit on your finger tips.

It’s not so hard to imagine a future device sporting this small projector. I would bet that till the end of the next year we’ll see first such devices announced. Most probably from Nokia (NYSE: NOK), who is the TI’s single largest customer. Why oh why, companies tease us with such things… (via: CNet)

On the 10th anniversary of its Pilot, at the CTIA Wireless in Orlando, Palm (NSDQ: PALM) announced that an update to the Windows Mobile 6 Professional edition will be available for Treo 750 smartphone users around the world.

At the same time, following the launch in Hong Kong, Palm also announced that for Cingular/AT&T (NYSE: T) customers, the update also will facilitate HSDPA capability, allowing faster data-download speeds on 3G/UMTS/HSDPA networks.

It’s nice to see Palm taking care of its loyal customers. Now, Motorola (NYSE: MOT) what are you waiting for? Buy Palm and give us even better Treos.

At CTIA Wireless, MobiMate Ltd. announced details of its next generation mobile travel service code named “WorldMate i10.” The service is the first of its kind, as it combines context based push and pull services culminating in a “Personal Travel Assistant” experience.

The WorldMate i10 is comprised of downloadable mobile client and server, a Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Outlook Add-In and an accompanying website. The Outlook Add-In automatically pieces together the travelers’ itinerary details for immediate inspection on their mobile phones or through the WorldMate i10 website. Just prior to the trip, WorldMate i10 starts tracking the itinerary in real-time pushing details and suggestions when required.

The end rusuls looks something like this. Let’s say that the flight is delayed or cancelled – the user is notified immediately and then presented with alternative flights for the desired destination. When arriving at a new destination, WorldMate i10 greets the user with a message outlining the next few items on her itinerary along with the local time and weather as well as maps/directions to her hotel.

The WorldMate i10 also includes many of the popular services such as flight schedules, world clocks, currency exchange rates, travel information and more.

The basic services of the upcoming WorldMate i10 will be provided free of charge. These will include the most frequently used services such as itinerary creation and viewing, world clocks, weather forecasts and currency exchange rates. A few premium services will be charged for on a monthly basis. These will include the push functionality and specialized content services geared towards the very frequent traveler. WorldMate i10 will also drive revenue through affiliations with several third parties.MobiMate
