Gameloft’s Dungeon Hunter & Dungeon Hunter 2 certainly quenched my appetite for some hacking & slashing goodness on iOS, but seeing as Gameloft has been teasing not only Dungeon Hunter 3′s release, but also the fact that the game will be another free-to-play title in their ever-growing stable of F2P games. But could a dungeon crawler work in a free-to-play model? Unlike the previous Dungeon Hunters, Dungeon Hunter 3 lacks any real story. I’m not entirely sure if this is a good thing or bad seeing as I really didn’t pay much attention … Read more
The last 12 months have been a wild ride, as we started the year with many of us wondering how the Xoom and PlayBook could compete against the iPad, how would HP use webOS, what the iPhone 5 would look like and if 4G LTE would really come to America in a big way. There have been a lot of pleasant and not-so-pleasant surprises in 2011 but some clear takeaways are that the smartphone revolution is in full swing, tablets are here to stay and 4G can be real. So, … Read more
I get the feeling that many of you will be playing Angry Birds over the holidays on your new gadgets but I’ll bet that you haven’t decorated your house with these birds and pigs in Christmas light form. That’s what the video below shows and it’s either really, really cool or an obsession taken too far, depending on how you view it. I think it’s awesome and the video shows a “game” being played with the lights. More than anything, this is just another sign of how Angry Birds has … Read more
Apple iPhone and iPod touch owners running the now antiquated iOS 3.1.3 are having trouble browsing through the App Store and worse, downloading any new apps. A thread on Apple Support Communities was started four days ago bringing the complaint to public attention and it still has not received an official confirmation from Apple. The problem generally started around December 15th and it began for most immediately after they downloaded or updated apps from the App Store. The person who posted the thread says tapping the price will not initiate … Read more
Apple released a new build of iOS 5.0.1 a few days ago, but no one knew what differentiated it from the previous build until now. It was actually issued to fix SIM card errors that certain iPhone 4S owners have been experiencing, according to one Apple support page. Specifically, the phone would have trouble recognizing the inserted SIM card. Apple says the two main behaviors have been fixed with the new build. An alert would appear intermittently with a message reading either “Invalid SIM” or “No SIM card installed.” In addition, the … Read more
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto III was released and completely blew away the video game industry with its amazing open-world gameplay, adult theme, and ability to beat the living snot out of anyone or anything that you pass along in the world. And now, something that required an entire Playstation 2, Xbox, or PC is now available on our mobile devices. And it’s not some stripped down version that was made to fit onto our iOS and Android devices, but it’s actually … Read more
Last week, to everyone’s surprise, Microsoft released an iOS version of My Xbox Live which was one of the first steps to finally supporting the iOS platform instead of keeping their apps exclusive to the not as popular Windows Phone 7. It looks like the iOS love is continuing as the company is making its family-friendly Kinect title, Kinectimals, available on iOS today. Kinectimals for iOS brings the Xbox 360 experience of visiting the island of Lemuria to our iOS device as you can raise your own virtual cubs. If you’ve … Read more
As part of Apple’s announcement that the Mac App Store reached 100 million downloads in less than a year, a small portion was dedicated to some interesting iOS statistics. The company announced that the iOS App Store has passed 18 billion downloads, a number that manages to make the Mac App Store look deserted. Additionally, users are downloading these mobile apps at a rate of over one billion per month. If that rate continues as expected, one lucky iDevice owner should download the 20 billionth app some time in early … Read more
At last, jailbreak enthusiasts can proudly wave a middle finger at Apple’s “closed” system on iOS. Though it’s not available yet, an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 is clearly on its way and there’s even a video for proof. Hacker Pod2g filmed a video and uploaded it to YouTube showing it off in full effect on an iPod touch. The Settings panel in the video indicates that the jailbroken iPod touch is running iOS 5.0 — not 5.0.1, the most recent version — which may affect compatibility. Redsn0w has had … Read more
The Zite app is coming to the iPhone and this social-news reader is facing an increasingly-crowded landscape. The Zite app, which is now owned by CNN, had previously been on the iPad and it provided a personalized news-reading experience with all the social and touch integration that you’d expect. You can have it pipe in links from Twitter or your Google account and it will display these in a magazine-like interface. You can share stories, vote them up and down and adjust the text. I’ve played with it for a … Read more
