Let’s face it, we’re in a fashion driven society, and everything from clothing down to mobile devices has to look chic. Unfortunately, quality sometimes gets lost with such a huge emphasis being placed on a product’s appearance. Remarkably, with the I-MEGO Throne headset the values of both quality and style remain intact. The Gold Throne design plays homage to the ultra cool radio mics of the 1950’s.

The quality of the headphones are great, as they are made with real leather. What’s even cooler is the Throne has a 3.5 mm cable connector, but it also comes with 1.2m cable, multi-function button/mic, HiFi ¼-inch stereo adapter, button-canceling adapter, and soft carrying pouch. This baby can essentially turn into a large headset when you have a call come in, or just deliver clear sound and bass playing tunes. Both tasks perform well.

Perhaps the best feature about the Throne headphones is its comfort to wear. These headphones are incredibly comfortable; the leather headsets are buttery smooth when covering your ears. Plus, for its size (4.0 by 3.75 inches), they’re remarkably light weight. I used them while I was working out in the gym, which is something I don’t recommend because of the sweat. For those curious, I listened to both the new J. Cole and Kanye West albums — so there was no shortage in bass while testing.

Pursuing this further, the sound overall is clean and crisp, but I did have one slight criticism with the sound being a bit choked off. It seems like it’s an extra piece of material or something that makes the output seem muffled. However, this doesn’t affect the performance of the headphones. This could also be due to having the treble turned down, but who really knows.

Conclusion

In last analysis, if flashiness isn’t your thing then you won’t really like the styling of the Throne. I-Mego did a wonderful job making headphones that not only stick out but keep more than adequate sound quality intact. The company offers two different versions of the Throne: Gold for base, Poison for acoustic sounds.

Of course, this kind of style and quality requires somewhat of a lofty price tag of $130. But allow me to defend the price. Top notch headphone makers like Sennheiser, Bose, Beats, etc, would command anywhere from $20-$70 more for a pair of headsets like this. Just because I-Mego is a “no name” doesn’t mean the Throne doesn’t warrant the $130 price tag. This ear candy is excellent enough quality that’ll last for years.

I definitely recommend these headphones.

The virtual reality hardware took off on Kickstarter, and has now received its first round of funding from investors. Oculus received $16 Million today to help bring virtual reality into our homes.

“With the recent console announcements and the advent of stronger mobile technology, we’re watching the video game industry keenly. In our estimation, Oculus is one of the only companies in the space with something completely new and disruptive. They have the right team, capital and vision to take virtual reality beyond console gaming and into everyday computing.” – Santo Politi, General Partner at Spark Capital

The Oculus Rift, a head-mounted virtual reality display, has been showcased at a few trade shows, most recently at E3 fully immerses its wearers into a 3D world. The Oculus Rift currently works with a handful of games, with Half Life 2 currently functioning on the hardware.

Oculus started out last year with a Kickstarter campaign, which quickly raised a cool $2.5 Million. Initially, only backers of the project were given dev kits, but Oculus has since started selling its dev kit on its own.

Oculus VR Closes $16M Series A to Bring Consumer Virtual Reality Platform to Market

Spark Capital and Matrix Partners Lead Round to Fuel Oculus VR’s Next Phase of Growth

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (June 19, 2013) – Oculus VR, Inc., developer of the highly anticipated Oculus Rift, today announced that it has closed $16 million in Series A funding. The round was co-led by Spark Capital and Matrix Partners. Santo Politi, founder and general partner at Spark, and Antonio Rodriguez, serial entrepreneur and general partner at Matrix, have joined the company’s board of directors. Founders Fund as well as Formation 8 also participated in the round. The funds will be used to accelerate the development of virtual reality hardware, software and services, ultimately creating a full virtual reality platform for consumers.

“Oculus began with a single mission: to put players inside the game,” said Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus VR and inventor of the Oculus Rift. “This investment allows us to deliver immersive and affordable virtual reality to players everywhere.”

The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset that provides an immersive, stereoscopic 3D experience with a huge field of view-110 degrees diagonally-and that overcomes latency challenges. A prototype of the Oculus Rift first appeared at E3 2012, immediately earning praise from the industry. Just one year later, Oculus has manufactured and successfully shipped the Rift development kits purchased in its Kickstarter campaign, allowing game developers across the globe to create Oculus-ready applications and interactive content.

“With the recent console announcements and the advent of stronger mobile technology, we’re watching the video game industry keenly,” said Mr. Politi. “In our estimation, Oculus is one of the only companies in the space with something completely new and disruptive. They have the right team, capital and vision to take virtual reality beyond console gaming and into everyday computing.”

“In this business, there are only a few rare companies that can so perfectly embody the future you read about in science fiction novels,” said Mr. Rodriguez. “What Palmer, Brendan and the team are building at Oculus so closely matches the Metaverse, we had to be part of it. Working with them to get this platform to market at scale will be enormously exciting.”

Founded in 2005, Spark Capital’s track record of backing extraordinary, forward-thinking ventures, including Twitter and Tumblr, has served as a barometer for innovation in the tech industry. Matrix Partners’ achievements span decades and include early investments in some of the world’s most successful technology companies, such as Apple, SanDisk and many others.

“What better way to mark our first anniversary than to announce our next phase of growth,” said Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus VR. “There are still many challenging problems to solve, but with the support of these great investment partners, and our passionate community, we will continue to hire the brightest minds and stay laser focused on delivering the very best virtual reality platform possible.”

Oculus VR previously raised over $2.4 million through its Kickstarter campaign – almost 10 times its fundraising goal – and developers are actively supporting the headset. No release date has been set for commercial release. To stay updated on Oculus’ progress, please visit www.oculusvr.com.

Officials will be hard at work over the next six weeks to come up with detailed plans and proposals for the initiative, with the EU proposal coming into play as soon as July 1st, 2014.

The package will end the astronomically high premiums charged for roaming, making the lives of Europeans and travelers a little easier and a lot more inexpensive.

A student named Gail Santos has come up with a way to transform your Android device into an iOS 7 device, using Nova Launcher, a theme and an icon pack, which she created herself. Santos tricked out her Galaxy Note II with the new configuration, then quickly switched back to the stock Jelly Bean look. Santos did this for fun, as a way to show that anything is possible on Android.

If you want to get a preview of iOS 7 on your Android device, or just to trick your unwitting friends into thinking you have the newest iPhone, head over to Santos’ Google+ page where you will find a link to download the icon pack.

Have fun! How are you liking the new icons? Are you considering a switch from Android to iOS? Let us know.

The company behind the fledgling Ouya console has just earned some street cred, after a run-in with cops from the L.A.P.D., who were rolling hard on Segways. Instead of showcasing their Ouya console at the E3 event, where only attendees would get to see the device, Ouya set up a booth in a parking lot across the street from the E3 Expo so that the public could experience their device as well.

The Entertainment Software Association, the company who runs the E3 Expo didn’t like this move, and rented out spaces around the Ouya booth, which they promptly filled with big-rig trailers to block the Ouya team. Ouya responded by flying Ouya banners in front of the trailers, and increasing their street team presence.

According to a report from IGN, Julie Uhrman, founder of the Ouya console believes that the ESA rented out spaces to block the Ouya team, since they chose a different route to displaying their product at E3. Uhrman has reached out to the ESA to try and end this debacle, and so far the ESA has been silent.

No matter how much the ESA tries to block the renegade Ouya presence at E3, the plucky Ouya team is not giving up easily. Uhrman stated, “If ten more trucks show up, we’ll come up with another idea. I have a few up my sleeve.”

The Android based Ouya console is expected to launch in retail stores on June 25th.

The search for the Triforce continues in Nintendo’s new The Legend of Zelda game, A Link Between Worlds. This title is a quasi-sequel to the SNES classic A Link To The Past, and features a top-down view that will be familiar to any 16-Bit era RPG fans. A Link Between Worlds will feature light and dark worlds akin to A Link To The Past, and the sounds effects seem to be ripped directly from that title. A Link Between Worlds throws some variety into the game by allowing a new gameplay feature, which allows Link to turn into a 2D wall painting to access areas that would normally be inaccessible.

Features:

A daring adventure awaits Link in Hyrule, where he can use his new ability to become a “drawing” and move along walls of dungeons. This opens up ways to explore and puzzle elements that give Link access to locations he could not otherwise reach.

The game brings this top-down, 2D world to life with elevation and depth made possible by the Nintendo 3DS system’s stunning 3D visuals that reinvent classic Zelda game play at a constant 60 frames per second.

Using the touch screen, touch and drag the item from the items window and switch the item assigned to the X and/or Y buttons.

The Legend Of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will be available on the Nintendo 3DS this Novemeber.
