Perhaps even more interesting is that Alcatel will launch a dual-SIM version of the smartphone, One Touch 918D, that will (as you can imagine) allow you to connect to two networks at once. I know many folks who would appreciate a decent smartphone with that capability and in that sense Alcatel could have a winner with such a device.

Price is unknown at the moment, though we’re kinda confident both the Alcatel One Touch 918 and One Touch 918D will be reasonably priced. We’ll see…

Moreover, the smartphone will get the Ice Cream Sandwich support at some point in the future, though it’s not clear when that will exactly happen.

We love to see more companies entering the high-end market, driving prices south in the process. However, it’s important to note that a single-core processor clocking at 1.4GHz may be good for Gingerbread, I’m not sure how it will cope with Ice Cream Sandwich – guess we’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, it’s good to see Alcatel re-committing to the Android OS and hopefully this won’t be the last time we’re hearing from them.
