Apple just announced its Q1 2012 earnings with big numbers and big profits. The company made a record $46.33 billion in revenue and a record net profit of $13.06 billion — in a single quarter. Apple becomes largest purchaser of semiconductors on the planet

Apple gains another notch on its belt by becoming the largest chip (semiconductor) purchaser in the world, beating out Samsung for the top spot, according to data from Gartner. The Cupertino-based company spent $17.3 billion on semiconductors in 2011, which catapulted it up to a 5.7 percent total share of chip purchasing. Rounding out last years top three chip buyers is: Samsung at $16.7 billion and HP with $16.6 billion (both holding a 5.5 percent share). Survey says 36% of people who bought an iPhone in the U.S. in Q4 2011 are new to the platform

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners collected survey responses from 6,316 people who purchased an iPhone in the U.S. during the last quarter of last year, specifically October 14th (the launch of the iPhone 4S) to the end of the year. They then did an analysis on the responses of 365 of those people and what they found was that was that more than one third of iPhone buyers are totally new to the platform. Absinthe A5 jailbreak tops one million downloads in 24 hours

pod2g and Chronic Dev Team’s jailbreak reached one million downloads within the first 24 hours of availability. The jailbreak, dubbed Absinthe, was released on Friday as the first untethered solution for iOS 5 users. Future Apple and Samsung phones to be water proof thanks to a new technology called HZO

ZAGG, makers of cases for various consumer electronic devices, was at CES last week showing off their latest innovation called HZO.
