UK: ASUS Padfone 2 available for free with a Vodafone contract and 33 GBP/month plan

We’ve already told you that the unlocked, SIM-free version of the Padfone 2 is coming to the UK. And we know, it’s kinda steep to pour out all that cash in advance, but luckily there’s now a way to get the phone/tablet combo for free as long as you commit on a two-year contract from Vodafone. That contract comes at 33 GBP per month, which may sound a lot, but then again – remember that you get both a phone and tablet in one neat package. On the downside, we’re Read more

Asus FonePad first hitting Russia with a price tag of 265 EUR

Asus’ new FonePad, which was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will be available in Europe by the end of the second quarter. In the meantime, Russians will be among the first ones to try it out if they opt to pour out 10,590 rubles (about 265 EUR) for the unlocked, SIM-free device. That’s much more than what the Taiwanese company said the phone will cost (219 EUR) though kinda expected — for some reason most phones and tablets cost more in Russia than in other countries. Anyway, I Read more

Asus Padfone 2 was announced back in October and it’s still not available in most parts of the world. In fact, British users are about to get the option to buy one from few retailers, including Ebuyer and Carphone Warehouse. The former has started accepting pre-orders, asking 599 GBP (about $900) for the unlocked, SIM-free unit; while the latter only prepared a “coming soon” page. Yeah, the price is outrageous and honestly we can’t suggest anyone to buy one of these when we know that pretty much the same cash Read more

MWC 2013: ASUS booth tour

ASUS had a fairly small booth at this year’s Mobile World Congress. Their key devices were the Padfone Infinity and Intel-powered FonePad. Needless to say, we prefer the former which looks pretty sexy in its metallic body and the HD tablet shell. Moreover, few of their Transformer tablets were on display as well, and so was the MemoPad 10. Personally I dig the Taiwanese company’s strategy but dislike their execution; they had some serious problems bringing their Padfones to the market in a timely fashion. In fact, as I’m writing Read more

MWC 2013: Hands-on with the ASUS MemoPad 10

We knew ASUS will have a number of different products at display in Barcelona and thought we should give them a spin, as well. As you would imagine, ASUS saved the best for its Transformer series and with the MemoPad 7 and MemoPad 10, they’re going for the tablet buyers on the budget. Still, both devices offer pretty solid bang for the buck and we can’t but recommend them if they fit in your budget requirements. However, the smaller of the two tablets, MemoPad 7, is a tough sell. And Read more

We’re a bit surprised it took this long for a company to make a 7 inch tablet that it wants you to make calls with. Asus announced such a device, the FonePad, and after seeing the spec list of this hybrid device, you just might be fine putting it up to your face for a call. Maybe not. We just got some hands-on time with the device, so read on to get some of our first impressions. The FonePad is almost a phablet, but backwards: Predominantly a tablet, but with Read more
