Asus announces the FonePad, a 7-inch Atom tablet that’ll make calls

Asus is in the middle of its MWC press event and had just taken the wraps off the 7-inch FonePad tablet. The tablet has two features that set it apart from most of the competition — it’s capable of making calls and is powered by an Atom CPU. Asus opted to go with a 1.2GHz Atom Z2420 processor, along with 1GB of RAM, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and an HSPA+ radio for the FonePad. Asus announces the PadFone Infinity — part smartphone, part tablet, entirely amazing

Asus took to the stage today at Mobile World Congress 2013 and set the venue on fire with its newest smartphone-tablet combo, the PadFone Infinity. Building upon the PadFone brand, the Infinity is one heck of a device. It features Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at  1.7GHz, a 5-inch edge-to-edge display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and 441 PPI, and 64GB of onboard storage. ASUS goes viral #2: Christopher Columbus statue invites us for the Padfone/FonePad launch

After that metallic teaser clip with spaceship landing in the middle of Sagrada Familia, ASUS released another video titled “A New Discovery at Hand,” featuring Christopher Columbus statue taking a phone call on his stone tablet. ASUS prepares “metallic miracle” for Mobile World Congress

ASUS released a viral video on YouTube to get some attention for its MWC announcement next week. The clip features some sport of spaceship that flies over Barcelona only to land in the middle of Sagrada Familia (the famous church in the city). Intel-powered Asus FonePad caught in the wild prior to its official announcement

Asus likes combining words “Pad” and “Fone.” After making two “Padfones” they’re about to release their first “FonePad.” However, instead of using “standard” ARM-based chips, this device will rock an Intel-made Atom processor. It is said that soon-to-be-launched device will come with a 7-inch tablet with 1280×800 pixels resolution. The processor built inside will be clocked at 1.2GHz, while the rest of the specs will include a 3-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front-facing one, 1GB of RAM, 8/16/32 GB of built-in storage, microSD memory card slot and a 4,270mAh battery.
