Contact UsWe’ve lost track of how many Samsung Galaxy phones are out on the market, but that’s OK since there are only a handful that actually matter. Is the new Galaxy Appeal one of them? Let’s find out. First, we have no idea how much this thing will actually cost. AT&T didn’t include that piece of information in their press release. Second, it’s made out of recycled materials, which sounds awesome, but we’ve had some pretty bad experiences in the past with devices like the Samsung Reclaim for Sprint. That thing … Read more
When it comes to Windows Phone devices, the Lumia 900 is king. Our own Marin Perez gave the device an overall score of 8 out of 10 when he reviewed the Lumia 900 back in April, and those of us fortunate enough to have gotten our hands on the device came away very impressed. Nokia has managed to impress more than just us with its flagship Lumia Windows Phone device, however. In addition to Siri thinking it’s the best thing since sliced bread, the Lumia 900 has earned a top … Read more
Good news for Sprint customers looking to buy an Evo 4G LTE. According to a note posted by HTC on its investor website, some Evo 4G LTE handsets were reviewed by customs officials and given the green light to pass into the country. These handsets will make their way to Sprint customers who pre-ordered the device and didn’t receive it on the expected launch date of May 18. Starting last week, the Evo 4G LTE and the HTC One X were held up by custom officials who inspected the handsets … Read more
While carriers have made it publicly known that they’re unhappy with how much they’re subsidizing the iPhone, don’t expect this practice to change anytime soon. According to All Things D, carriers are concerned that raising the prices consumers pay for iPhones will drive them away to alternative carriers that choose to leave the subsidy as is. Carrier trepidation makes sense when it comes to the iPhone; Apple’s smartphone beat out sales of every single other smartphone combined on the three major networks that carry the iPhone. Further, T-Mobile has recently … Read more
GameStop, which most people know as the store that sells videogames, is apparently going to enter the mobile space according to Engadget. They accidentally launched a website for their upcoming MVNO (mobile virtual network operator), which has the amazingly creative name “GameStop Mobile”. What’s an MVNO? It’s basically a reseller. In this case, GameStop is reselling access to AT&T’s HSPA+ network. So what’s going to make “GameStop Mobile” special? They’ll have a variety of prepaid plans, with the most attractive being the unlimited talk, text, and 500 MB of data … Read more
Stop the presses! Amazon is selling AT&T’s HTC One X for $129.99, which $70 less than what AT&T is asking for. And guess what, this deal is good for everyone willing to put his/her signature on a two-year contract. Yep, that means both new customers and those upgrading, as well as those adding a line to existing accounts (whether its individual or a family account). The price without a contract, in case you care to know, is $549.99. The One X is the best Android smartphone HTC has ever made. … Read more
AT&T is looking to pick up smartphones that will require it to provide lower subsidies, according to comments from AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega. Speaking at a conference, de la Vega said that subsides are eating into margins. This is one of the reasons that Sprint will not be turning a profit on the iPhone until 2015. To address these issues, AT&T will be looking at devices that it can offer with lower subsidies but still be attractive to users. “We have to watch subsidies and make sure … Read more
The HTC One series is considered by many to be HTC’s comeback product that’ll help the company regain some market share. The One Series is making its presence known in the US and is available on both AT&T and T-Mobile. Noticeably absent from the list of carrier partners is Verizon Wireless, which passed on the flagship One X and launched the mid-range Droid Incredible 4G LTE instead. This isn’t a mistake or a delayed launched, says a report in Android Authority. According to HTC spokesman Jeff Gordon, “Verizon is not … Read more
When it comes to customer satisfaction, Apple dominates and RIM struggles. The 2012 ACSI report was the first time Apple, RIM, HTC, and LG were included in the cell phone manufacturer satisfaction category, making for an interesting inaugural cellular satisfaction report. The 2012 report shows that Apple has amassed a staggering 83% customer satisfaction ranking, becoming the first cellular company to break the 80% mark. Apple was a full 8 percentage points ahead of Nokia, HTC, and LG, who shared the number 2 spot at a 75% rating. Motorola and Samsung … Read more
When Sprint decided to label WiMAX technology as “4G”, it wasn’t that long until the other operators followed suite and slapped the 4G moniker on their respective networks. Sascha Segan from PC Mag recently had a chance to speak to Chris Pearson, the President of 4G Americas, and he asked him just what the hell 4G actually means according to the organization who is responsible for defining the standards that make our mobile devices work in the first place. Pearson’s response: “At 4G Americas, our typical line is HSPA+ 21 … Read more
Although HTC CEO and president Peter Chou promised that all HTC Android devices launched after September 2011 can have their bootloaders unlocked, AT&T obviously didn’t want to comply with this for the brand new One X. To make things worse, HTC did release the source code for the One X though AT&T’s version was not included in the package. The way I see it, we have AT&T to blame for this, though you never know… All this prompted users to gather and ask for AT&T and HTC to do something … Read more
