CHT 9110 Windows Mobile 6 smartphone

What you’ve just saw is the product of cooperation between Chinese Telecommunication, Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) and Dopod. The all-touchscreen CHT 9110 hides lots of goodies under the hood – including quad-band GSM radio, EDGE, HSDPA, Bluetooth, WiFi, 256MB Flash ROM, 64MB SDRAM, and microSD expansion slot — all relying on Samsung’s 500MHz CPU. Naturally, Windows Mobile 6 Professional runs the show, and users can input their data by touching the large 2.8″ screen. In addition, this baby will come with some special, fashionable version of Media Player.

Finally, the CHT 9110 weighs 150 g – not that much considering that you’ll get the (almost) all-in-one device for that money, though I find it looking quite ugly when compared with HTC Touch. Not sure what’s the point of this device — if anyone can write a comment about it, we would appreciate…

Dopod introduces BlackBerry Connect 4.0 across Asia

Dopod International and Research In Motion (RIM) recently announced the availability of BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Connect software v4.0 on 838Pro (aka HTC Hermes/HTC TyTN).

Through the existing licensing relationship between HTC (now the owner of Dopod) and RIM, Dopod will provide BlackBerry Connect software on its Windows Mobile-based 838Pro smartphone to support push-based email services, in conjunction with both BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service.

Commenting on the announcement Dopod CEO Jack Tong said: “BlackBerry Connect on Dopod International devices provides an innovative and powerful solution that meets the distinct needs of our mobile users on the go. We are very excited to work with RIM to provide the new BlackBerry Connect software on 838Pro for customers in Hong Kong, Australia and South East Asia.”

Dopod International is the first to offer BlackBerry Connect v4.0 in Asia. (via: the:unwired)

Dopod planning to launch 6 new phones in China

Digitimes is reporting that HTC (High Tech Computer) subsidiary, Dopod, has announced plans to launch 6 new mobile devices in China for the second half (2H) of this year. One device is being described as a “mobile office device,” which we’re taking to mean that one of the mobile phones in the pipeline will be billed as an enterprise device. Company sources are saying that the new lineup will be marketed solely under the Dopod brand, with names like Athena-c (enterprise device), Cruiser, Kunlun, Nike-c, Elf and Sedna-c.

Dopod International has also appointed Paul Hsu as David Lee’s replacement as president of Dopod.

The proposed lineup seems to include current HTC offerings, repackaged as Dopod devices for the Chinese market. (Athena-c seems to be the HTC Athena, rebranded for the Chinese market).

HTC acquires Dopod; Announces Global Branding Strategy

HTC, the world’s leading provider of Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Windows Mobile PDAs and smartphones, announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Dopod’s subsidiaries across Asia at the sum of Dopod’s adjusted net worth at the end of Q2 2007. The deal, which is still subject to shareholder approval, will “deliver” Dopod’s retail expertise and subsidiaries in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, and Philippines to HTC.

After the acquisition, HTC will start selling its Windows Mobile products in Asia under it’s own “HTC” brand rather than using Dopod anymore. Furthermore, HTC is committed to provide a full range of support services to existing Dopod products and Dopod consumers through original distribution channels and service/call centers.

It sounds like HTC is ready to chase Nokia (NYSE: NOK)? We’ll watch this space carefully, as things progress… (via: unwired)

Dopod to follow HTC; Announces Windows Mobile 6 upgrade strategy

Following HTC’s commitment to provide Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for some of their smartphones, Dopod International announced its Windows Mobile 6 upgrade roadmap. Not all devices will be upgradeable. For instance, contrary to HTC, Dopod is not planning a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the C720W (HTC Excalibur, aka T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) Dash).

Dopod will allow users of the 838Pro (HTC Hermes), P800W (HTC Artemis), U1000 (HTC Athena/Advantage), and D810 (HTC Trinity) to upgrade their devices to the latest version of Windows Mobile OS. Interesting enough, the last mentioned (Dopod D810/HTC Trinity) was not on the HTC’s upgrade roadmap — leaving some hope for Trinity users to get their updates as well. (via: unwired)

Dopod D600 (HTC Gene P3400) comes to China

Dopod has start selling the D600, their version of the HTC Gene P3400 in China. The quad-band Dopod D600 is an all-touchscreen device that runs Windows Mobile 5, and among other things sports a single speaker, a 2.8″ QVGA screen, 64 MB RAM and 128 MB of flash memory, a 2 MP camera, SDIO card slot and Bluetooth 2.0. This smartphone is powered by TI’s OMAP 850 CPU that runs on 201 MHz, has dimensions of 109×58x17.65 mm, and weighs 126 g.

The Dopod D600 is currently available for about $450 without contract. (via: Slashphone)
