Dual-SIM Glofiish DX900 smartphone goes on sale in Russia

Even though it was announced back in June at Computex (along with three other smartphones), the highly anticipated E-Ten Glofiish DX900 is going on sale now. Why is it so anticipated? Well, it’s the first VGA screen equipped Windows Mobile smartphone with two SIM card slots. To put it in other words – it’s the best dual-SIM phone announced to date!

Rest of the specs include such things as 3G support (HSDPA), GPS receiver, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3 megapixel camera and secondary front-facing camera for video calls.

It should be available in Russia for 20,990 rubles, which is about $742. Kinda steep, but then again – which other smartphone packs two SIM card slots?

Unfortunately at this moment we don’t know when the DX900 will hit other markets, but we spotted it’s available for pre-ordering at Expansys…

E-Ten Glofiish X610, V900 smartphones due out soon

Back in June, we saw E-Ten announcing four cool smartphones. After almost six months, the handset maker said it will soon release two of the four devices – Glofiish X610 and Glofiish V900.

The first one, X610, is a 2.5G smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional edition. Designed for the emerging marketing, the device doesn’t exactly boasts high-end specs. Still, there’s a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 128 MB Flash ROM and 64 MB SDRAM, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi, FM radio, 2 megapixel camera and a GPS. Samsung’s SC3 2442 CPU at 400 MHz is providing all the processing power needed.

On the other hand, the Glofiish V900 is a mobile TV ready device. Aside from the DVB-T receiver, the stylish, 3G-enabled (triband UMTS/HSDPA) smartphone packs a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi, FM radio, 3 megapixel camera that can record videos at VGA resolution and a GPS. This time, Samsung’s more powerful CPU at at 533 MHz is in charge.

Pricing is not known at this stage, and the same goes for the exact release date. Stay tuned…

E-TEN all official with four Glofiish smartphones at Computex 2008

E-TEN has launched new phones at this year’s Computex. Let’s briefly go through each of the devices, shall we.

First comes the Glofiish DX900 which we saw back in May and then we knew it will be unveiled during Computex. The “Best Choice of Computex” award-winning device is the first dual-SIM and dual-standby Windows Mobile smartphone, sporting such things as HSDPA support, VGA touchscreen, built-in GPS receiver, WiFi, and a 3 megapixel camera.

Then goes the Glofiish V900, which was announced back in February. The mobile TV ready smartphone boasts both DVB-T/H and T-DMB/DAB receivers, allowing users around the globe to enjoy television programming while on-the-go. Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s MediaFLO isn’t included in the mix, though. VGA screen is there to ensure high-quality image.

Finally, two other devices — the Glofiish X900 and Glofiish X610 — are clearly out-shined by both DX900 and V900, hence I can’t easily find many words of praise for them. The former packs the HSDPA support, while the latter “offers both value and functionally in a sleek handset that’s perfect for GPS navigation.”

All four devices run the latest version of Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s mobile OS – Windows Mobile 6.1 and in addition sport a new E-TEN’s touch-friendly 3D interface on top of it.

I’m all for the DX900 and am looking forward to see other handset makers following the suit and launching their own dual-SIM smartphones.

E-Ten to launch Glofiish DX900 Hellen at Computex in June

E-ten is gearing towards launching its latest handset, Glofiish DX900, at Computex tradeshow in Taipei, June 3-7. The new smartphone looks pretty much the same as many of E-ten’s previous models, but specs wise it’s a different beast.

The quad-band GSM, tri-band UMTS, HSDPA-enabled smartphone runs the latest version of Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s mobile OS – Windows Mobile 6.1. Samsung’s SC3 6400 533 MHz CPU provides the power needed, and 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM guarantee just enough memory for handling multiple demanding apps at the same time. Other specs include 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera with autofocus, built-in GPS SURF III chipset (20 channels), WiFi, Bluetooth, accelerometer, and microSD memory card slot. As for the size, the Glofiish DX900 measures 106×60.5×17 mm and has a weight of 147 grams.

All in all, with the Glofiish DX900 E-ten may have quite a device to compete head to head with the upcoming HTC Diamond. Too bad it doesn’t have the look and feel of the HTC’s smartphone…

E-Ten launches the E-Ten Glofish M750 and M810

Up and coming Windows Mobile device manufacturer E-Ten has just launched a new pair of Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional-powered QWERTY sliders that are sure to impress WinMo fans the world over. Following Acer’s acquisition of E-Ten, the company’s E-Ten Glofish M750 and M810 are apparently ready to pull duty as the company’s new flagship Windows Mobile smartphones.

The new handsets bank on E-Ten’s tried and true horizontal sliding form-factor with a QWERTY keyboard hidden under the display. Both the E-Ten Glofish M810 and Glofish M750 sports a feature set on par with the best WinMo handsets on market. That means you can expect to see a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) radio, WiFi (802.11 b/g), GPS (integrated into Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps), 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, 256MB ROM and a Samsung S3C processor clocked at 500MHz – all packed into a 109.5 x 59 x 17.5mm package.

And to distinguish the higher-end Glofish M810 from its younger sibling Glofish M750, E-Ten has endowed the Glofish M810 with and HSDPA radio, while the Glofish M750 chugs along at slower EDGE speeds.

The pair of handsets from E-Ten look promising, but in a market where touchscreens are starting to seriously take hold, E-Ten’s tired form-factor may prove to be a problem. The recessed, pressure-sensitive touchscreen is a bit dated in the face of flush-mounted, less “squishy” touchscreens like that on the Samsung Instinct and capacitance touchscreens like that used on the iPhone.

We’re expecting E-Ten to start worldwide shipment of the Glofish M750 and M810 in 2-3 weeks. Pricing information to follow shorty.

Acer announces acquisition of E-ten

There’s nothing like a bit of acquisition-news to start the day off right. Taking a look at today’s developments, it was nice to see that a certain smartphone would indeed make it to market this year, but then there’s this little gem from the business side of things.

Acer announced that it has entered into an agreement to buy E-TEN Information Systems Co. Ltd. Turns out, Acer wants to dabble in the mobile world – a world that’s more mobile than their current expertise in notebooks would allow.

Whether it’s mobile phones or mobile computing (two markets that are on a head-on collision course over the next few years, by the way), Acer looks positioned really take a bit out of the “mobile market.” After buying up Gateway and Packard Bell, the company’s acquisition of E-ten should solidify their stance as a true mobile-player.

“This strategic transaction is yet another important milestone in Acer’s long history of innovation,” said J.T. Wang, Chairman and CEO of Acer Inc. “The acquisition of E-TEN increases Acer’s global footprint by giving us a strong and highly credible presence in the mobility segment.”

And it doesn’t hurt that E-ten has a reputation for making some powerful Windows Mobile smarphones. We’ve been impressed by E-ten’s lineup of Glofish handsets, and we can’t wait to see what the new partnership (and presumably larger R&D bankroll) will do for E-ten’s high-end offerings.

E-TEN Glofish V900 and M810 official

E-TEN accidently leaked the V900 a few weeks ago, but now it has been officially announced along with the M810. Both devices run Windows Mobile, have GPS, WiFi and HSDPA. The M810 has a 2 megapixel autofocus camera with full QWERTY keyboard while the V900 has DVB-H, DVB-T, TDMB and DAB for TV reception on a gorgeous VGA resolution display.

No youtube, no care, but that VGA resolution display is quite tempting.

We’re not sure whether the image above is real or a work of the Photoshop master, but it certainly impresses. That being said, we’re hoping E-TEN people are reading this and in case the latter is true, they’ll make sure we also see the V900 released in red.

Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, and boy, I’ll make sure not to miss any E-TEN’s announcements nor product demonstrations. Stay tuned – if everything goes the way we hope, you’ll see our hands-on V900 experience within less than 3 weeks…

Speaking of the myriad Mobile TV standards out in the wild, it looks like live pics of E-TEN’s Mobile TV powerhouse have surfaced.

What you see is is ostensibly the same handset that was pictured in E-TEN’s Glofish V900 promotional advertisement. It looks a lot better in semi-person – high-quality images have a tendency to bring out the photogenic side of any device.

The E-TEN Glofish V900 looks pretty damn nice clad in a high-gloss Black (or Blue) finish, soft-touch rear, and accented with some well-placed chrome trim. And that front-facing video-call camera hints at some 3G action – UMTS or HSDPA may just be in the cards for this E-TEN Glofish V900.

We’re glad to see that E-TEN’s Mobile TV phenom will be bringing all that DVB-H, DVB-T, T-DMB, and DAB-love to Mobile TV and radio fans with style and class.

Pricing and availability are likely going to be announced at Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2008. Stay tuned.

CES 2008 Las Vegas is over and it was fairly disappointing. So, what’s a mobile fanatic to do? Well, if you’re like us, you’re eagerly awaiting the Mobile World Congress (why they changed the name from 3GSM, we don’t know) in Barcelona, mid-February.

Mobile World Congress 2008 is going to be the hottest, must-see, mobile conference in the world. We have no doubt that we’ll be seeing some interesting stuff from all the major market-players, come February 11-14. And, it seems E-ten is already prepping their lineup for mid-February.

Behold, the E-ten Glofish V900 Communicator with DVB-H, DVB-T, T-DMB, and DAB tuners to keep you mobile-TV and radio addicts fully connected to the broadcast of your choice (or your governments’ choice). Following on the E-ten Glofish X650’s announcement, E-ten looks to be getting an early start on Mobile World Congress 2008.

E-TEN Glofiish X650 Windows Mobile smartphone officially announced

Mock me if you want but I see the newly announced E-ten Glofish X650 — which we saw earlier at the FCC — as a device positioned to compete with the iPhone. The reason is simple — it lacks 3G and relies on EDGE and WiFi for data transfer. However, it may not look that cool as Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s handset, but E-ten’s device offers some cool features iPhone lacks such as built-in GPS receiver, full VGA (640×480) touchscreen, FM Tuner, and FM Transmitter. The last mentioned should allow users to listen their own music in car without any 3rd party accessories.

Other specs include Samsung SC3 500 MHz CPU, 256MB ROM and 64 MB RAM (why not more?), 2 MP camera with auto-focus, Bluetooth, and of course the microSD expansion slot. As for the size, the Glofish X650 measures 107×58x14.7 mm and weighs 136 g.

Finally, in case you’re wondering – we’ve no information when it will start selling nor how much it will cost. However, we do know E-ten will make the X650 available in black and purple… Full release follows after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE – E-TEN Information Systems has announced the Glofiish X650, the company’s latest Pocket PC Phone to offer the benefits of all-in-one connectivity, VGA display, and an ultra-compact form factor.

E-TEN first introduced the option for a VGA display in May and since then has added several more models to its product lineup aimed at different customer needs. The latest X650 is designed to appeal to those seeking a compact, full-featured device that is also affordable.

A VGA display offers several significant benefits to the user. The greater resolution (four times higher than that of a typical Pocket PC Phone) enables a larger proportion of a document, calendar, map, or web page etc. to be displayed on screen at once, increasing productivity. Additionally, the higher pixel density means that text appears sharper and easier to read while pictures and video appear more detailed. VGA is set to become one of the key specifications for Pocket PC Phones in the coming year.

The Glofiish X650 features E-TEN’s all-in-one connectivity solution comprising of worldwide GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The device all comes preloaded with E-TENs exclusive software suite including Mobile Shell, Namecard Manager and Backup Utility as well as Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Office Mobile, Windows Live and other utilities.

Specifications of the X650 include a Samsung SC3 processor at 500Mz, 256MB ROM, 2-megapixel auto-focus camera, FM Tuner, and FM Transmitter (subject to region). Dimensions of the handset are an ultra-compact 107 x 58 x 14.7mm with a weight of just 139g.

The Glofiish X650 is offered in two color choices, black and purple, and should be available worldwide in two to three weeks.

FCC unveils E-ten Glofish X650 with FM transmitter

In case the recently revealed E-ten Glofish X600 didn’t rock your world, the up-and-coming smartphone manufacturer has pushed their new E-ten Glofish X650 through the FCC’s testing process. We had speculated that the Glofish X600’s spec-sheet failed to include 3G, nor a VGA disply, because they were saving those features for the Glofish X600+ (much like E-ten did when they bumped-up the Glofish X500’s display with the VGA-equipped Glofish X500+). Well, there’s no word of an E-ten Glofish X600+ in the works, but this E-ten Glofish X650 could serve the same function in E-ten’s lineup.

Spotted on the FCC’s website, the E-ten Glofish X650 sports pretty much the same internals as its little-brother, the X600, but adds an FM transmitter that should have you rocking-out to your favorite tunes (as long as there’s an available FM channel to broadcast said tunes). We’re even hearing that the Glofish X650 will have a VGA display – which may mean E-ten is done with the “+” branding in favor of tacking on an addition “50″ to the model name to indicate a boosted spec-sheet. Unfortunately, there’s no mention of any 3G radio for the Glofish X650.

We don’t care what E-ten prefers, “+” or “50,” just give us some VGA goodness and we’ll happily accept whatever name they see fit to use.

E-Ten Glofiish M800 officially launched

We’ve already covered E-Ten’s Glofiish M800. Hack, we’ve even seen it passing the FCC hurdle. And now it’s out, just in time for Christmas season.

The new device almost perfect. The things I don’t like include only 64MB of RAM, as well as 2 megapixel camera. Everything else rocks! There’s the 2.8″ VGA screen (640×480 baby), full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, triband UMTS/HSDPA, secondary camera for video calls, 256MB of ROM, and of course the microSD memory slot.

We’ve no idea how much it will cost, but something tells me it won’t be cheap.

We love the VGA-packing E-ten Glofish X800 because it’s basically the incredibly capable underdog in the Windows Mobile 6.0 world. The VGA display actually gives it a hand-up on the AT&T (NYSE: T) Tilt’s QVGA display, but the recently FCC approved E-ten Glofish X800 is the underdog because it doesn’t have the powerful carrier-subsidized mind-share that the AT&T Tilt/HTC Kaiser enjoys. Oh, and it doesn’t have the QWERTY keyboard of its bigger brother, the E-ten Glofish M800, but we still gotta give it up to the X800 for that glorious VGA display.

E-Ten to launch mobile TV, DVB-T enabled handsets in 2008

E-Ten is reportedly working on its line of mobile TV enabled handsets to introduce on the market next year.

Initially the handsets will support only the DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) standard, but the company also plans to introduce models supporting other broadcasting standards later on.

There’s no doubt E-Ten will want to bet on the upcoming growth of the mobile TV, but on the other hand they’ll need to go DVB-H in order to get a piece of the European market. Whatever the case is, it’s good to know we’ll have another Windows Mobile smartphone maker on the mobile TV handset market soon…

E-ten Glofish M800 with European and US 3G support approved by FCC

It looks like AT&T (NYSE: T)’s top competitor to their AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser TyTn II) is that much closer to hitting Yankee shores. The E-ten Glofish M800 Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional phone has just gotten the “go ahead” from the FCC.

E-ten recently teamed up with Arima to push out faster and badder WinMo smartphones, and it looks like they’re right on target. The E-ten Glofish X800 was the first WM6 device from this partnership, and the Glofish M800 basically adds a slide-out QWERTY keyboard (and some thickness). We last heard about the Glofish M800 earlier this month, but we had no idea it would already garner FCC approval.

With a 500Mhz CPU, 2.8 inch VGA display, quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM radio with tri-band (850/1900/2100Mhz) HSDPA/UMTS, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, GPS, 256MB ROM/64MB RAM, and 2 megapixel camera (with front-facing video-call camera) – all powered by the venerable Windows Mobile 6.0 OS – the E-ten Glofish M800 is poised to take a serious swipe at the HTC Kaiser (as well as the AT&T Tilt in the US). As we mentioned previously, the HTC Kaiser/AT&T Tilt has a hand up on the E-ten Glofish M800. The AT&T Tilt has AT&T’s support, so we expect the AT&T Tilt to have a bit of an edge – at least in terms of mind share.

E-Ten Glofish X600 revealed – GPS equipped Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone

Who wants a super-thin GPS-equipped smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional? We thought so. Well, for those of you squirming in your seats for the successor to the E-Ten Glofish X500 and X500+ (VGA display!), E-Ten’s got your back. Word on the street has it that E-Ten will be busting out the E-Ten Glofish X600 GPS-smartphone.

Now, E-Ten hasn’t yet announced this Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional device, but we’ve got some confirmed specs for you to pine over. How does a 400Mhz CPU, 2 megapixel camera, quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM with EDGE (no 3G), Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, WiFi, and a SiRF Star III GPS chipset sound? Unfortunately, the E-Ten glofish X600 won’t be sporting any 3G connectivity, nor a VGA screen (E-Ten might be saving the VGA goodness for the E-Ten Glofish X600+) – going with EDGE and 2.8 inch QVGA display.

Still, the E-Ten Glofish X600 shaves even more girth off it’s predecessor – measuring a slight 107 x 58 x 14.7 mm and tipping the scales at 136 g. If you’ve got a thing for uber-thin Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional-powered GPS phones, E-Ten wants your business. We’ll keep you posted on further developments.

E-Ten Glofish M800 adds QWERTY keyboard to the X800

The E-Ten and Arima partnership is really starting to bear some high-end fruit. With the launch of the E-Ten Glofish X800, the duo proved that they were comfortable playing with the big boys. It’s just too bad the Glofish X800 suffered from a lack of QWERTY keyboard. Well, E-Ten and Arima are looking to change all that. The new E-Ten Glofish M800 basically takes the WinMo6-powered X800 and adds a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a la AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser TyTn 2).

The E-Ten Glofish M800’s feature set makes it a strong competitor to the AT&T (NYSE: T) Tilt. The full-VGA display is a huge plus in our book; and the 500Mhz processor, SiRFstar II GPS receiver, WiFi and 3G (HSDPA) radio keep the E-Ten Glofish M800 near the top of our list. And, just like the X800, the M800 rocks Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional and a front-facing video-calling camera. All that for €599 (about $850) starting in late November or early December.

AT&T Tilt, meet E-Ten Glofish M800. You two will be competing for the top spot in Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphones. E-Ten, we’d recommend you go out and get yourself some carrier support – the average person has probably never even heard of you. Still, we know who you are, and we love your stuff. So keep on keepin’ on with those beautifully VGA screens!

E-Ten Glofiish X800 finally starts shipping

Just when we’ve almost forgot about it, E-Ten will reportedly start shipping its strangely named Glofiish X800 Windows Mobile 6 based smartphone. If you remember it was announced back in March, got the FCC’s approval in July, and finally it’s set to be released. I’ll only recap the specs – there’s Samsung’s SC3 2442 500 MHz CPU, 256 MB Flash ROM and 64 MB SDRAM, Bluetooth, WiFi, 2.8″ VGA touchscreen, built-in GPS, 2 MP camera and front-face VGA camera for video calls among other things. Sounds nice, although a better camera would be appreciated. Still, I wouldn’t mind trying one…

E-Ten posts 1H 2007 net profits up 73%

Way to go, E-Ten. With amazing products like the E-Ten Glofish X500+ bringing VGA-love to the Windows Mobile 6.0 crowd, and stuff like the Glofish X800 WM6-powered 3.5G handset in the pipeline, it’s not hard to see why the company has recently posted a 73% increase in net profits for the first half of 2007 (1H 2007). Compared to the same period last year, it seems E-Ten has grown quite a bit – their profits reached NT$249 million (US$7.6 million), which works out to net EPS (earnings per share) of NT$1.62 for the January-June period.

Analysts are predicting the EPS to hit T$5.50-6.0 by year-end, owing to the continued success of the company based on the E-Ten Glofish X800.
