Similarly to the ASUS Transformer devices, both the screen and keyboard have their own batteries making sure you get extra juice when using the SlateBook x2 in the “laptop mode.”

As for the pricing and availability, HP will start selling its powerful tablet in the U.S. in August, asking $479.99 for the unlocked, SIM-free device.

We’ll try to get a review unit to try out, and get back to you with additional information. In the meantime, you can check out SlateBook x2′s official page at HP’s website.

HP’s attempts at the tablet market have been sad at best, but it looks like the company may attempt to right the wrong it’s done to the tablet market by making a device people may actually want to spend money on.

The rumored tablet, the Slatebook 10X 2, looks to be a high-end Android tablet that rocks the NVIDIA Tegra 4 and a 10 inch display. Said display’s resolution is currently unknown, but we’re hoping it will at least be squeezing in 1920 x 1080 pixels. The “book” part of the Slatebook alludes that the device will have a keyboard dock, much like the Windows 8-powered ENVY X2.

The name of the rumored tablet popped up in an AnTuTu benchmark, which divulged that the device will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and rock a NVIDIA Tegra 4 CPU with a clock speed of 1.8GHz. Not too shabby, HP.

Of course, we’re going to have to wait and see if the Slatebook 10 X2 is actually released, as HP is currently only in the low-end market of Android tablets, with the HP Slate 7 just recently launching for $170.

Not only would we like to see HP take a stab at the high-end Android tablet market, we’d also like to see a NVIDIA Tegra 4-powered device hit the market as soon as possible.

HP markets its Beats Audio as built-in to the tablet, which is typical of the company’s devices. Lastly, it ships with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS because what the hell is webOS anyway?

It’s $30 cheaper than the Nexus 7 at $169.99 and is arguably better looking, but the Nexus 7 definitely has better specs. If you’re in the market for a cheap 7-inch tablet you might want to consider the Nexus 7 over the HP Slate 7, but hey, the ball’s in your court.

The Slate 7 has mid-range specs with 1.6GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor, 7-inch display with resolution of 1024 x 600, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD. It runs stock Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It has some add-on features like Beats audio and native support for HP printing, that are bolster the value of the $169 tablet.

The Slate 7 is slightly heavier than other tablets of similar size, but it still ie easy to hold one-handed. It has a soft-touch back that’s available in silver or red color. The top of the device includes a headphone jack and microSD slot, while the bottom houses the charge/sync port. It does have a low resolution screen when compared to the Nexus 7 and the large black bezel on the front is ungainly.

Performance-wise, the Slate 7 keep up the pace when browsing the web, posting to social networks and checking email — the most common tasks performed on the tablets. HP;s biggest challenge may be the Nexus 7, which is only $20 more and offer more robust hardware. Check out the hands-on photos below and let us know what you think about the Slate 7 in the comments below.

Despite its attempt to woo the world with the TouchPad and WebOS, not only does it look like HP is trying to create a tablet again, but said tablet may end up running Android. On top of jumping into the Android tablet world, HP also may be looking to make its own smartphone as well.

ReadWrite’s source claims that the mystery HP Android tablet will ship with NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 CPU and has been in development since last Thanksgiving. However, The Verge’s own source mentioned that details are not set in stone, so it the tablet could end up shipping with another S0C. If HP does end up going with NVIDIA’s offering, it could be one of the first devices to ship with the company’s latest processors, other than the Project SHIELD.

To sweeten the rumor, we might also see an Android-powered smartphone from HP in the future. This wouldn’t be terribly surprising, as CEO Meg Whitman mentioned that the company will eventually get into the arena with such an offering.

“We have to ultimately offer a smartphone because in many countries of the world that would be your first computing device. We are a computing company, we have to take advantage of that form factor.”

If HP is to offer up an Android tablet at some point in the future, we do wonder how it will try to differentiate itself between the likes of Samsung, Sony, and Asus. Still, jumping into the Android tablet or smartphone race isn’t going to be easy, so we’re pretty interesting in seeing what the company will come up with.
