rogers lg pop1 Its Poppin Fresh: LG Pop Arrives on Rogers

One of the new touchscreen devices slated for release on Rogers (NYSE: RCI) has arrived. The LG Pop is now available on big red, and is available starting at $19.99 on a 3-year contract. The LG Pop (GD510) is somewhat small in size when it comes to touchscreen devices these days. The overall dimensions are roughly 9.5cm by 5cm by 1cm… and it packs a 3″ WQVGA 240×400 display. You’ll also find a 3MP camera with 2x zoom and video, microSD expansion to 16GB, Bluetooth and more.

If the 3-year contract doesn’t tickle your fancy you can also pick the Pop up for $69.99 on a 2-year, $134.99 on a 1-year or contract-free for $174.99.

Should be interesting to see when other touchscreen devices like the Sony XPERIA X10, Samsung CorbyPRO and LG KM555 arrive on Rogers. Any bets?

All the details are over at Rogers.

LG GT350

LG has announced the successor to its low-end messaging phone – KS360, which we also know as Tribe or Neon. The new device keeps the side-sliding QWERTY form factor, while priding itself with social networking features, that include integration with Facebook and Twitter.

In addition, there’s a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen (there were no touchscreen on the KS360) as well as four-line QWERTY keypad (versus KS360’s three lines) with dedicated buttons for accessing push e-mail, the web browser and instant messaging client.

Availability wise, the LG GT350 ill go on sale in Europe from this April and will then launch in other markets around the world. It will come in four color combinations including Aqua Blue, Purple, Light Silver, and Black, some of which will be exclusive to specific carriers.

LG LU9400 Arena Max Pictured, Due for Korea

LG-ArenaMax

We had heard about a mysterious LG device bearing the model number LU9400 passing through Wi-Fi certification, but few details were available at the time. Well, the Arena Max is now out in the open for us to take a gander at: a 5 megapixel camera, 3.5” display, Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi (obviously) are  part of the package, but the real star of the show is the 1 GHz processor.

Based on specs alone, the LU9400 has a few bragging rights over the original Arena: 1 GHz over 528 MHz, and a display that’s 0.5” bigger, but what I’m really curious about is the operating system. Odds are good that LG will keep pushing its goofy cube-spinny S-Class user interface, but even that might be enough to swallow if they go with Android rather than Windows Mobile. This Arena Max is bound for Korea first, since it’s clearly branded as Cyon (LG’s Korean mobile arm), but with any luck we’ll at least get a chance to play with it at Mobile World Congress next week.

LG KM555e Clubby unveiled in Russia

LG KM555e Clubby

LG also wants a piece of the “all-touchscreen music phone” action, after seeing the strategy works like a charm for Samsung. For that purpose, the company has unveiled the KM555e Clubby, which prides itself with a 3-megapixel camera, Dolby Mobile tech, WQVGA touchscreen, and the ability to sing along LG’s Music Club service. The device is available in Russia for 9,990 rubles (about $329) in three different colors – black, purple and silver.

We’ve no doubts LG will push the Clubby to other markets as well and in that sense we’ve already talked about the KM555 which should be launched by Canada’s Rogers Wireless at some point this year…

rogers touchscreen devices Rogers Lineup to Boast Many New Touchscreen Devices in Early 2010

The next few months are going to see quite a few new touchscreen devices appearing on Rogers (NYSE: RCI). Among them are the Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) XPERIA X10, the LG Pop, Samsung CorbyPRO and LG KM555.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 boasts a 4″ capacitive touchscreen display, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, 8MP camera, GPS, WiFi, micro SD and more. The last I heard, a custom Sony Ericsson Timescape UI was integrated into Android, and I have no reason to believe this won’t be on the Rogers model.

The LG Pop features a 3″ WQVGA touchscreen (240×400), a 3MP camera with video, and holds up to 16GB via microSD expansion.

Next is the Samsung CorbyPRO, which features a 2.8″ WVGA touchscreen, side-slider QWERTY keyboard, 3MP camera with video, 3.5mm headset jack, WiFi, and expansion to 16GB via microSD.

Finally, the LG KM555 is the last touchscreen slated to hit Rogers over the next little while, and this one comes complete with a 3″ touchscreen (at 240×400), 3MP camera with video, FM Radio, Bluetooth, WiFi, HSDPA support, and expansion to 16GB via microSD.

No pricing or release dates have been made available for any of these devices, but expect to hear more real soon.

LG GT540

Almost missed this… LG has officially unveiled its second Android phone – the GT540. According to LG, this phone is centered on social networking and is in that sense ideal for the young generation of smartphone users.

Specs wise, the GT540 comes with a 3-megapixel camera with auto-focus, Android 2.0, 3.5mm headset jack, and so on. However, what’s especially interesting about the device is its attractive industrial design that features chrome-colored accents and rounded edges. Moreover, LG’s software that runs on top of Android allows customization with personalized themes and widgets.

The LG GT540 is planned to be launched globally in April 2010. Pricing is unknown at the moment…

LG plans to move 140 million handsets this year

In LG

LG 20Logo LG plans to move 140 million handsets this yearLG has unveiled an ambitious plan for its mobile business that includes moving 140 million handsets in 2010, and eventually becoming one of the top two mobile device manufacturers in the world by 2012.

This year, the company plans to unveil about 20 smartphones running Android, Windows Mobile and Linux — though, I’m not sure which version of Linux they’re talking about. As expected, LG’s big bet is on Android, and it is expected that half of all LG smartphones sold run Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s mobile OS.

In the first part of the year, we’ll see the Korean company releasing easy-to-use phones for the first-time phone buyers, whereas in the second half they’ll focus on the higher-end of the spectrum. Moreover, in February (MWC time?), LG will unveil a new device that supports 3-Way Sync technology which will enable users to access the same content from their phones, PCs and TVs.

In a nutshell, LG is preparing for a big year, and yes, we’ll follow “every step they make.” ;)

lg intouchmax LG launches InTouch Max GW620 and comes over all Android!

LG  has just launched the InTouch Max GW620, which is the company’s first Android mobile handset. LG have been slower off the mark than the likes of Motorola (NYSE: MOT) and HTC with their multiple Android OS devices, but could quickly get up to speed if this is an example of what’s to come

The LG InTouch Max boasts a 5-line QWERTY and touchscreen keyboard, making it simple to type and especially convenient for social networking. The phone is ideal for people who want to stay connected and up-to-date with their friends, relatives and online lives 24/7. With a Social Networking Manager built-in application (Linkbook™), you can also go straight to your friend’s social networking profiles from your contact list.

Other features include Auto Face-tagging, which automatically recognises your friend’s face on a tagged photo. The Face-to-Action means you can call, SMS, MMS or join your friend’s social networking site simply by touching their face in a picture. The LG InTouch Max also comes with a 5-megapixel camera that captures high quality images and videos which can be displayed on the 3-inch touchscreen and a 1500mAh battery, which promises plenty of talk and stand-by time.

The LG InTouch Max GW620 has launched in the UK on the following network providers:

  • T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) - Free on £20 a month, 24 month contract (with unlimited data)
  • Virgin Media - Free on £22 a month, 18 month contract (with unlimited texts and data)

Hopefully at some point soon we’ll get a device in to IntoMobile Towers for review, but for now you can find more info here.

lg logo HTC Obsession, LG Apollo to Spearhead Windows Mobile 7? htc logo HTC Obsession, LG Apollo to Spearhead Windows Mobile 7?

A rather in-depth roundup of Windows Mobile 7 rumours by Malatesta has included word of the two launch devices from HTC and LG. Here are the rumoured specs of the LG Apollo, which might be a little hard to swallow:

  • Launching: August/September 2010
  • CPU: Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) QSD8650; 1.3GHz
  • CDMA + GSM (aka a World Phone)
  • EvDO + HSDPA

  • Memory (RAM/ROM): 1GB/1GB
  • External Storage: MicroSD (up to 32GB)

  • Standby Time: 288 hours
  • Internet Use: 4.5 hours (3G), 6.5 hours (WiFi)

The HTC Obsession is a little more believable:

  • Launching: October 2010
  • CPU: Qualcomm QSD8250; 1GHz
  • GSM HSDPA
  • Device Size: 112 x 56 x 11.7 mm
  • Memory (RAM/ROM): 512MB/512MB
  • Internal Storage: 4GB
  • External Storage: MicroSD (up to 32GB)
  • Screen Size/Type: 3.7-inch capacitive AMOLED “Multitouch Supported”
  • Camera: 5.0 Megapixel AF with flash; HD 720p video@ 25fps
  • Video Support: Windows Media Video (WMV), MPEG-4 (MP4/M4V) H.264, DVR-MS4
  • Audio Support: Windows Media Audio (WMA), Advanced Audio Coding (AAC-LC), FairPlay DRM, MP3 (.mp3)
  • Battery:  Removable 1230 mAh
  • Talk Time: Up to 10 hours
  • Standby Time: 240 hours
  • Internet Use: 6 hours (3G), 7.5 hours (WiFi)
  • Video Playback: 7 hours
  • Audio Playback: 24 hours

Hardware aside, the post runs down a lot of the rumoured features, like how “Seven” will be split up into business (with mobile document access) and media (Zune, Xbox, and Silverlight) editions, as well as a new cloud-based GPS system called Orion.
