In Devices, Motorola

Talk about a beautiful phone! The revived Motorola (NYSE: MOT) PEBL lineup’s flagship has been snapped in the wild and we’ve got the visual goods. The MOTO ROKR U9 PEBL gleams with that bling-worthy, chromed-out finish that hides those touch-sensitive external music controls.

But, the Motorola ROKR U9 PEBL isn’t all beauty, it’s got some decent brains under that shiny exterior. We’re talking about a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM radio with EDGE, Stereo Bluetooth, microSD card slot, 2 megapixel camera, and of course that incredible external display with those touch-sensitive music controls – all in a 90×48.6×16.4 mm package that tips the scales at 87.5 grams. Them’s some respectable brains.

Black MOTORIZR Z8 and ROKR W5 spotted

New all black MOTORIZR Z8 and ROKR W5

Maximus from JAMPBLOG keeps surprising me with his findings. Lately he spotted black versions of two Motorola (NYSE: MOT) handsets – the Symbian UIQ 3.1-based RIZR Z8 and the still unannounced music centric ROKR W5. Both devices look awesome when colored like this. The latter (ROKR W5) even uses bits of orange, hence it somehow resembles Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) Walkman’s color scheme. Are these the coolest lookin’ phones out there or what? Forget the iPhone, it’s not competing with these two. Ok, maybe with Z8 as it’s also multimedia capable smartphone. What do you say? Check out two more pics after the jump.

Possible launch details for AT&T Tilt, Duo, Inferno

In AT&T, Devices, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Pantech, Rumors, Windows Mobile

AT&T pricing details for upcoming AT&T Duo, Inferno, Q9h, TiltEngadget Mobile seems to have gotten the downlow on AT&T (NYSE: T)’s pricing schedule for their October lineup. The high-anticipated HTC Kaiser TyTN II, otherwise known as the AT&T Tilt 8925 looks to be hitting AT&T for $299 or $374 on a one-year and two-year contract, respectively. The Pantech Duo will be going for the right-old price of $199 on a two-year service agreement – which is a bit more than what Amazon is already offering for the dual-sliding Pantech C810 Duo. And, rounding out the smartphone offerings from AT&T, the Motorola Q9h will be hitting US airwaves in October at a $299 price point (with 2-year contract, of course). Nokia (NYSE: NOK) will also be getting in on AT&T’s October launch goodness with their Nokia 6555 Inferno 3G clamshell – which will go for $49.99 with new contract.

Keep an eye out for AT&T and their October lineup. We can’t wait to get the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Q9h and AT&T Tilt 8925 in our hands. Those are going to be some sexy smartphones, but we like our smartphones like our women – with a little meat and substance on them bones. The AT&T Tilt 8925 is the smartphone that’s making all of us squirm in our seats for a chance to take it for a spin.

Motorola prepping super secret Nokia N95-fighting ELBA handset?

By Will Park on Friday, September 7th, 2007 at 7:05 PM PST
In Devices, Motorola, Rumors

Motorola preparing top secret ELBA handsets with gps, touchscreen, wifi, 3g, and 5 megapixel cameraRemember that photoshopped picture of an alleged Motorola E7 with those crazy specs? Well, the pic was obviously a fake, but the feature set is what piques our interest. Speculation has Motorola (NYSE: MOT) prepping a phone with the same or similar specifications in a new line of super-secret ELBA handsets. The ELBA handsets are a top-secret new lineup of mobile phones from Motorola that should have full touch-sensitive keypads and slim form-factors – a la the Nokia AEON concept phone.

Boy Genius has learned that the troubled mobile phone manufacturer is quietly prepping a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N95-fighter. The new handset will be packing 3G, WiFi, GPS, full-touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera (Schneider-Kreuznach optics, please), and a full VGA display. The rumored ELBA handset is kept under the strictest, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)-worthy lockdown and doesn’t even leave the testing labs. If it’s more than just hearsay, Motorola should be keeping this thing under wraps – when it launches it’ll be that much more amazing.

And, in a recent conference, Motorola CFO Tom Meredith sated that Motorola is aiming to retake its share of the wireless market with devices that feature WiFi and touchscreen. Hmm, coincidence? Maybe not.

We’re eagerly awaiting the next-generation lineup from Motorola – they were once the shining beacon of innovation in the wireless industry, let’s see if they can do it again.

Transforming Motorola E6 that can still make calls

By Will Park on Thursday, September 6th, 2007 at 3:07 PM PST
In Motorola

It’s not often we see a transforming mobile phone that can literally transform – let alone still make phone calls. Here we have a Motorola (NYSE: MOT) E6 ROKR that some enterprising Moto-modder managed to turn into a transforming robot – a la Transformers. But, to our surprise, this thing does more than just transform into a robot, it can also make phone calls!

How this guy managed to create such an incredible example of phone modding is beyond us, but props go out to him – in abundance.

The Motorola ROKR U9 PEBL gets its time in the spotlight – press shots of the MOTOROKR U9

Motorola MOTOROKR ROKR U9 PEBL musicphone gets press shots

With Motorola (NYSE: MOT) rumored to launch the newly-”cool” PEBL successor this month (September), it makes sense for the press-blitz to get started. The Motorola ROKR U9 PEBL is finally getting its time in the spotlight with these new press shots. Up until now, all we’ve had to go on was that little teaser pic of the MOTOROKR U9 PEBL – but now we get a full-on barrage of ROKR U9 PEBL glamor shots.

The MOTOROKR U9 only gets 25MB of onboard memory, but the microSD card slot lets you expand your musicphone’s storage capacity to your liking. And the stereo Bluetooth, QVGA interior display, and GSM (EDGE-only, no 3G) radio hint at this thing being based on Motorola’s RAZR2 V8 internals. We’ll see what this month brings, but we’re going to bet that this revived PEBL will be rocking a full quad-band GSM radio.

The ROKR U9 measures a not-so-svelte (but oh so sleek) 90 x 48.6 x 16.4 mm body and tips the scales at a feather-weight 87.5 g. So, it’s not the slimmest musicphone out there, but that “ginormous” external touch-sensitive display more than makes up for the extra girth.

AT&T goes live with Motorola RAZR2 V9 – now available on AT&T website

By Will Park on Friday, August 31st, 2007 at 4:22 PM PST
In AT&T, Announcements, Devices, Motorola

With Big Red and Sprint already having launched their own versions of the Motorola RAZR2 V9, it’s about time AT&T (NYSE: T) got with the program. The AT&T-branded MOTORAZR2 V9 is actually ahead of schedule (early September) and looks to be going for $299.99 (after a $450 web discount). Nope, that wasn’t a mistake. This little “mahogany” (we’d call it “purple” but hey, who are we to correct AT&T) RAZR2 V9 touts a retail, out-of-contract price tag of $750!

AT&T launche Motorola MOTORAZR2 RAZR2 V9 for business premier customers

The MOTORAZR2 V9 is only available online to business premier customers, but should become available to all web-customers as well as in-store customers very soon. That $750 price tag had better be a joke. But, we have a sneaking suspicion that it’s entirely legit.

Motorola sues Aruba for patent infringement on 3D and wireless technology

By Will Park on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 at 5:48 PM PST
In Announcements, Financial/Corporate News, Motorola, Technologies

Motorola logo subsidiaries Symbol and Wireless valley sue ArubaWhat better way to inject some much needed coin into the company coffers than to go out and take other people’s money? It looks like Motorola (NYSE: MOT) is going to join in on the fun that Broadcom and Nokia are having with their IP legal battles. The embattled mobile phone once-giant is claiming that their recent acquisition of Symbol also gave them the rights to some technology related to 3D representations and short-range wireless networking and management.

Motorola isn’t actually the one suing Aruba, rather, Motorola’s subsidiaries Symbol Technologies and Wireless Valley Communications have filed for a monetary damages and a permanent injunction against Aruba (a supplier of wireless networking equipment for offices).

Now, we’re usually against “use the courts to handle your licensing negotiation” tactics, but seeing as how this law suit doesn’t really stem from licensing negotiations and the fact that poor, old Motorola could really use some help these days, we’re going to root for Moto on this one. Just this one time Moto (wait, didn’t we say that before?).
