Contact UsNokia is going to announce their Q1 2012 financial results on April 19th, today though they issued a press release that gives investors and analysts a hint of what sort of numbers they should be expecting. Here are the important figures: 83 million mobile phones were sold during the quarter, of which 71 million were feature phones and 12 million were smartphones. Of those 12 million smartphones, 2 million of them were Windows Phones. Just yesterday we predicted Nokia would sell 2.2 million Windows Phones, so we’re proud to say … Read more
On August 12, 2009, Microsoft issued a press release saying that they’ll be “bringing Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft business communications, collaboration and device management software to Nokia’s Symbian devices.” Here we are, 28 months later, and it’s finally happened. If you own a Symbian Belle device then you should check for software updates. There’s a 50 MB file available that contains a native Symbian version of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. According to the folks at All About Symbian, said software takes a whopping 15 minutes to install. It … Read more
Someone in Nokia’s marketing department is about to get into a lot of trouble. The company’s YouTube channel accidentally posted a video demoing a new product, the Lumia 610 NFC. Said video was pulled down immediately, but that didn’t stop the guys at Nokia Buff from downloading it to their local machine and then reuploading it for all to watch. What you see below is basically the exact same Lumia 610 that was announced back in February at Mobile World Congress, but with an NFC chip inside. We don’t know … Read more
Nokia confirmed today on its Conversations blog that the Lumia 900 has a memory management problem which may cause the handset’s data connection to drop. There is a growing number of users who claim their handset loses its data connection and won’t reconnect even after a restart. Rather than ignore the problem, the Finnish company and AT&T, have decided “to take immediate action.” Customers who bought the Lumia 900 are being offered a choice. They can wait and update their phone with the latest software on April 16 or trade … Read more
On April 19th, less than 10 days from now, Nokia is going to publish their Q1 2012 financial results. The question on everyone’s mind: How many Windows Phone did these guys sell? Just to recap where we are right now, Nokia started selling the Lumia 800 on November 15th in the UK. When the Finnish handset maker published their Q4 2011 financial results on January 26th, they didn’t actually say how many Windows Phones they shipped during the month and a half that the Lumia 800 was on sale. The … Read more
Nokia announced a new phone in Nigeria today, the Nokia 103. For some strange reason, the company hasn’t published any details about this device whatsoever on their website. We contacted Nokia to try to get some information about the 103, but the only thing they were able to tell us was “we have not released a global press release”. Anyway, insider baseball aside, here’s what you need to know: The Nokia 103 is dust resistant, comes with an “anti-scratch cover”, has a 1.36 inch black and white display, flashlight, an … Read more
We’ve already told you Amazon is selling a ton of AT&T’s Nokia Lumia 900 devices, offering them for 50 bucks (50% off AT&T’s price) to new customers. However, we failed to mention the price for upgraders – strange enough, it’s lower than the one for new customers. Amazon is selling the Nokia Windows Phone for $19.99 to those upgrading with an individual account. If you, however, are a part of a family account or want to add a line to an individual account, you’ll have to pay $49.99. Then again, … Read more
Remember the Nokia 808 PureView that was announced nearly two months ago? It was Nokia’s 41 megapixel camera that set the internet on fire. Not everyone believed that number at first, but after enough time had passed, and enough questions were answered, we found out that yes, the 808 does indeed have a 41 megapixel image sensor that can capture ~ 38 megapixel photos. By default however, the camera takes 5 megapixel images. Nokia uses roughly 38 megapixels worth of data to give you a crisp and clear 5 megapixel … Read more
The Nokia Lumia 900 is an important device for multiple reasons. While it’s technically not Nokia’s first Windows Phone to launch in America, that honor goes to the Lumia 710 on T-Mobile, the Lumia 900 is being positioned as the “flagship” device for the United States. For AT&T, the Lumia represents the first important exclusive they’ve had in a long time. For as long as anyone can remember, buying an iPhone meant becoming an AT&T customer. That’s no longer the case, and it’s something that makes sleeping at night difficult … Read more
The next major version of Windows Phone, codenamed Apollo, is due to land in the fourth quarter of this year. We have a rough idea of what new features it’ll bring to the table, but until Microsoft issues a press release detailing everything we should know about … we’re pretty much clueless to what’s true and what’s bullshit. Software aside, what about devices? According to WMPoweruser, here’s what we can expect to see in terms of Apollo hardware: Nokia will release a Windows Phone 8 flagship device on Verizon that … Read more
The Nokia Lumia 900 officially became available yesterday and some of the early returns look promising. The folks over at Laptop Mag noticed that the flagship Windows Phone climbed to the top of Amazon’s sales list, ahead of some high-end Android devices. No doubt, the price has to help as you can get the Lumia 900 from Amazon for a cool $49.99 on a new, two-year contract. That is quite a good deal. That discounted price makes it very attractive but Amazon was also one of the places you could … Read more
