Pantech IM-S350 looks fashionable, too bad it’s Korea only

Pantech IM-S350

Pantech has unveiled its latest slider phone called IM-S350. From what we can tell (from the image above), with parts of the body being made of aluminum, the device looks quite fashionable and I’ve no doubts some people in South Korea will like it — unfortunately the IM-S350 is a Korea-only device at the moment.

Specs wise, the 9.9 mm thin handset comes with a HSDPA radio, 2 megapixel camera, built-in DMB TV tuner, media player, Bluetooth and memory card slot. Pricing and the exact release date is not known at this stage, though…

Pantech SKY IM-S730 Blue Wink released in South Korea

Pantech SKY IM-S730

Pantech’s new phone wears two names. The first one is more techy and it’s “SKY IM-S730.” The other one, though, is let’s say more casual and seems “invented” to make the device more appealing to younger generations. It’s “Blue Wink” and no, we don’t have a slightest clue what that means nor how that name is perceived in South Korea, where Pantech released the new slider.

Specs wise, the SKY IM-S730 Blue Wink (guess we could make a single name out of it) sports a 2.6-inch QVGA screen, HSDPA support, GPS, FM radio, 1.3 megapixel camera, and a microSD slot. In addition, I think it’s kinda safe to bet there’s some media player app on board and it would be also fair to argue this phone will be available for free with a wink and with a contract. ;)

Verizon to offer Pantech UTStarcom TXT8010 as Blitz

Verizon to offer Pantech UTStarcom TXT8010 as Blitz

Just when we’ve started wondering what happened to the FCC-approved UTStarcom TXT8010, we have a new tidbit of information that suggests Verizon will be offering the Pantech-made device as Blitz.

Apparently, the CDMA carrier will start selling the full slide-out QWERTY keyboard equipped phone on August 8th through Wal-Mart, followed by Best Buy on September 28th. That by itself should mean you won’t have to rob the bank to own one. Still, the Verizon Blitz manages to pack VCAST Music support, VZ Navigator, 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and of course a microSD slot…

And that’s about all we know at this stage. We’ll certainly have more to add on the subject as August 8th approaches. Stay tuned, in the meantime.

Pantech C810 Duo comes to Mexico through Telcel

Pantech C810 Duo comes to Mexico through Telcel

Pantech’s dual-faced C810 Duo is coming to Mexico. Telcel is the carrier which will offer the Windows Mobile smartphone, which boasts both a full QWERTY keyboard and a standard numeric keypad.

There were some confusions in the blogosphere. This isn’t the Pantech Duo 2 model, or the C820 which we saw slipping through FCC. Rather, it’s the “first generation product” that is already available in the U.S. through AT&T.

Specs wise, the Pantech C810 Duo runs Windows Mobile 6, has EDGE/UMTS (HSDPA) radio on board, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, and more. We’re not aware how much Telcel is charging for the C810. If anyone of you guys/gals is from Mexico, please use the comments to drop us a line about pricing.

Pantech C530 spotted at the FCC; Heading to AT&T, where else?

Pantech C530 spotted at the FCC

Mysterious Pantech C530 has been spotted at the FCC’s website. We’re not sure where it’s heading, but as usual, AT&T is most likely to score the Pantech-made device. From what we can tell, the phone seems pretty wide giving us hope it will either sport the full QWERTY keyboard, a huge touchscreen, or maybe both. However, we don’t see 3G in the list — only GSM/EDGE on the 850 and 1900MHz bands are mentioned. That’s kinda sad, but then again, the market for low-to-mid range devices is still larger than the one for high-end devices, and both Pantech and AT&T want to address it.

In the meantime, we’re eager to hear something more about the more powerful C810 (Pantech Duo 2?) model. Stay tuned…

Pantech IM-R300 touchscreen slider lands at SK Telecom

Pantech IM-R300

Meet the Pantech IM-R300, a new slider that is about to start selling in Korea via SK Telecom. The device measures 51×102x13.9 mm and has a 2.6-inch WQVGA (240×400 pixels) touchscreen. The large resolution of the screen makes the phone quite interesting and will certainly make the web browsing experience more enjoyable. The same goes for mobile TV, as it’s also equipped with a T-DMB receiver, allowing its owners to get some TV entertainment while on the go.

Other specs include HSDPA support, 2 megapixel camera, 260MB of internal memory, e-wallet functionality and more. We’re not sure whether Pantech plans to export this baby, but I’m certain there’s a market for touchscreen-equipped feature phones outside of Korea, too. One more image follows after the jump…

More Helio Ocean 2 videos

Posted by Will on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pm under Video, Pantech, Helio, Devices

The Helio Ocean 2 is proving to be more successful than its carrier ever was. With the last true MVNO making its final push in the US wireless market, the Helio Ocean 2 has come to the forefront as the hottest Helio handset ever.

Last we saw, the Helio Ocean 2 was caught on video, which was promptly removed. This time around, we’re seeing the Helio Ocean 2 getting some screen-time by way of the blurriest video we’ve seen in a while.

Of course, any kind video of the Helio Ocean 2 is better than having no video, so that leaves us with these grainy vids of the Helio Ocean 2 getting some hands-on time with some seriously “enthused” South Koreans - SK Telecom employees, perhaps?
It looks like these videos were recorded using the Helio Ocean 2. Did these “testers” record video and upload them to YouTube on purpose or by accident?
Will this be the closest anyone ever gets to a Helio Ocean 2 in the US? We really have no idea, but if we had to bet… we’d put all our money on “two pair” - we’re not gamblers.

Helio Ocean 2 spotted in the flesh

Posted by Will on Monday, June 23rd, 2008 at 4:40 pm under Pantech, Helio, Devices

With Helio downsizing its operations, possibly in preparation for a takeover from Virgin Mobile USA, there are probably mobs (in the loosest sense of the term) of Helio customers worried that they may never get to lay hands on the Helio Ocean’s smarter, better, faster, stronger successor, the Helio Ocean 2.

Alas, their worries might not be misplaced. Helio could very well follow the path of all those other MVNOs that just couldn’t manage to turn a profit. Does that mean the Helio Ocean 2 has to go down with the ship? Well, actually, it probably does.

Helio Ocean 2

But, at least we’ve got some in-the-wild footage of the Helio Ocean 2 for all you Helio fans to drool over. This here Helio Ocean 2 was caught on film and posted to YouTube. Cosmetically, the Helio Ocean 2 bears an expectedly striking resemblance to its forebear, but with all those requisite spec-bumps contained within, the Helio Ocean 2 is most definitely smarter, better, faster and stronger than the Helio Ocean.

Unfortunately, the video has been taken down, but at least we have this image of the Helio Ocean 2.

Now, we wait to see if Helio can hold out long enough to actually launch this handset.

FCC shows Pantech Duo 2

Posted by Will on Tuesday, June 17th, 2008 at 6:11 pm under FCC, Pantech, Devices

Pantech Duo 2 at FCCDual-sliders aren’t exactly taking the handset market by storm, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t at least a handful of you out there that love having a keypad and keyboard on the same device. And, keeping the dream of hybrid keypad/keyboard devices alive, Pantech has just pushed their Pantech Duo 2 through the FCC.

The FCC filing shows that the Pantech Duo 2 sports GSM frequency support on the 850 and 1900Mhz bands, which makes AT&T essentially a lock to pick up the successor to the Pantech Duo. But, aside from having Bluetooth and five screws hidden under the battery, Pantech and the FCC are mum on what the Pantech Duo 2 will be bringing to the table.

As much as I like the idea of having a keypad and keyboard mated to the same device, the additional bulk that the hybrid design brings with it is going to keep me from using any hybrid keypad/keyboard device as my primary handset. Is anyone actually looking forward to the Pantech Duo 2? Sound off in the comments section.

Pantech C820 slips through FCC; Pantech Duo 2?

Posted by Dusan on Monday, June 2nd, 2008 at 2:55 am under FCC, Pantech, Devices

Pantech C820 slips through FCC

Let’s see, the Pantech Duo is actually the model number C810, so what kind of a device would wear the C820 “badge?” Maybe Pantech Duo 2? We’re not sure of course, but that certainly makes sense. To be fair, the “Duo 2″ is kinda awkward name, but hey, if Intel could do it, Pantech can do it just as well.

We don’t have all the details at this stage, but FCC filling does reveal the right 3G frequencies for AT&T (WCDMA 850/1900), which consequently is the carrier of choice for the original Pantech Duo smartphone. So, adding the latest version Windows Mobile to the mix, alongside that QWERTY keyboard + numeric keypad combo, could prove as a winning combination. Hopefully, a powerful CPU and abundance of available RAM will also find its way under the Duo 2 hood. Stay tuned…
