Pantech is out with yet another Korea-only product. It’s the Sky IM-U560K, which main feature is gesture control, allowing users to scroll and slide without touching screen or keypad. Rest of the specs include a 2.6-inch touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera that can take both photos and videos, media player, “standard for Korean devices” e-dictionary, and we guess Bluetooth connectivity and microSD expansion slot. Moreover, it comes in an eco-friendly packing that’s printed using soybean inks on a 100% recycled paper. Pricing was not unveiled, but I doubt many of you care to know that – as if you’re not in South Korea, you won’t be able to try out this baby…

A new Pantech device has been spotted while gaining the so much needed FCC approval in order to sell in the U.S. market. It’s the QWERTY keyboard-equipped Pantech P9020, which comes with a 3G radio that sings along AT&T (NYSE: T)’s bands (850/1900 MHz).
The user manual is also on the FCC’s website and from there we learn this texter-friendly device supports AT&T Music and AT&T Navigator — the latter means there’s a GPS on board. Rest of the specs (aside from the slide-out QWERTY keyboard) include a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, email client, and a microSD memory card slot.
We’ve no idea when will AT&T go all official with the P9020, but the phone seems ready for the prime time, meaning we’ll most likely see it unveiled during the first quarter of next year. CES?

Pantech is out with yet another mobile phone which you probably won’t use, like ever, except in case you’re living in South Korea. According to our logs, chances are slim, but you never know…
Anyway, the phone is called “Sexy Back” (IM-U530K) and it’s made for Korean girls who will be able to grab it from KT. We’re talking about an all-touchscreen device that sports such things as 3G connectivity, 3-megapixel camera, accelerometer, T-DMB mobile TV receiver, Bluetooth, e-dictionary software, and of course, a microSD memory card slot.
And that’s all we have. No word on pricing, unfortunately, though as I said, you probably don’t care about it anyway…

AT&T has announced a new, cheap slider from Pantech that has a standard number pad on the front and a full, portrait, slide-out QWERTY keypad. The aptly-named Reveal also includes GPS services, 3G speed, and a new browser (Opera Mini, I believe – they were showing it off at CTIA). If you’re thinking of grabbing one, Pantech is giving away one Reveal a day for the next five days – all you have to do for your chance is become a fan on Facebook and leave a wall post. Otherwise, the Reveal will be running for $79.99 (or free) on a two-year contract.

Pantech has recently unveiled its most expensive phone to date – Sky DuPont IM-U510LE, which for $830 makes sure your handset is affiliated with the famous lighter all with its golden accents. In the era of “no smoking anywhere,” this could easily become a collectible item for die hard cigar smokers.
Specs wise, there’s a 3-inch 240×400 pixels touchscreen, GPS, DMB-TV mobile TV receiver, media player, and of course a microSD memory card slot. As for the size, the DuPont IM-U510LE measures 106.8×50.8×11.15 mm and has a weight of 90 grams. Korea’s SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) is selling the device, just in case you’re wondering…

On top of the Nokia Shade, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is also launching another flip, the Barrage, and the Razzle, sporting a full QWERTY keypad. Both scream mediocrity, but the Pantech Razzle’s kind of cool in that it twists in the middle depending on if you need to do some texting or want to listen to the external speakers. Useful? No. Gimmicky? Yes. It also has a 1.3 megapixel camera, EV-DO 1x, and stereo Bluetooth support. The Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Barrage sure sounds like it could handle one, as it has been built with military-grade ruggedization, and packs push-to-talk capabilities often needed in rough work environments. 1170 mAH battery, dual speakers, and a 2.0 megapixel camera round out the Barrage, but aside from that, though, it’s pretty much your run-of-the-mill flip. The Razzle will be out on October 6th. for $69.99, and the Barrage will be available for $129.99 on contract on October 1st.

AT&T (NYSE: T) will be adding a new low-end device, Pantech C180, to its portfolio, most likely as part of its prepaid offering. The entry-level device comes in a candybar form factor, sporting a music player, FM radio, WAP browser and a memory card slot. It even lacks Bluetooth connectivity and camera, meaning you’ll probably be able to grab it for under $50. Not a bad choice for your forth mobile phone or elderly parents — otherwise, I’m not sure who needs this in the time of app stores and location-based services…

In Financial/Corporate News, Pantech

South Korea’s third largest phone maker, Pantech, announced that Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) would become a minority shareholder in Pantech Co. Ltd. and Pantech & Curitel Communications Inc. The move comes as a result of Pantech’s plan to convert portion of its debt into equity.
Qualcomm won’t take an active role in the company management, and will get no more than 15% of Pantech’s common shares. According to Qualcomm Korea’s Dr. Cha Young Koo “this conversion will create a stronger platform on which Pantech can continue to build its prior successes in developing unique and innovative products.”
Pantech sits in the shadow of two other Korean handset makers – LG and Samsung, and in that sense plans to further push handset shipments to Japan and the U.S. We’ll see how that goes…

Remember Pantech’s TruEmotion user interface? Well, it’s live now with the first phone called Sky IM-R470S, which is available in South Korea via SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM).
From what we can tell, the new device is a true multimedia monster, sporting just a few buttons and a huge 3.2-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) touchscreen, which has a 160 degree viewing angle. Rest of the specs include mobile TV (DMB) receiver, GPS, Bluetooth, accelerometer, proximity sensor, 3 megapixel camera, 4GB of internal memory, and a media player that can handle an array of video files such as H.264, MPEG4, DivX and XviD.
In a nutshell, it’s quite capable device that you probably won’t see outside of Korea for the time being. Hopefully, Pantech is negotiating with some carriers in Europe and U.S. as we speak to export this baby. Keeping our fingers crossed can’t harm, that’s sure.
