Virgin Mobile Canada now looks for 5 BlackBerry Q10 testers

And once again, Virgin Mobile Canada is looking for 5 lucky testers, this time to review the hot-new BlackBerry Q10. Just like that was the case with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One, those interested to participate should: a) be existing Virgin customers; and b) tell the carrier in 100 words or less why they’re perfect candidate for the job. If you’re selected (and do your job properly), you’ll get to keep the Q10, which according to Virgin Mobile is worth $700. If you do fit in the group Read more

Canada: Virgin looking for 5 Galaxy S4 testers

After the HTC One, Virgin Mobile Canada is inviting 5 testers to review the hot-new Samsung Galaxy S4 under its “Tester Team” program. Once again, interested individuals should submit why they’re great fit for the program and if selected, they’ll get to keep Sammy’s super-phone. I would say that’s a pretty sweet deal and something other carriers could do as well. The way I see it, it’s cheap marketing for Virgin Mobile, offering 5 devices valued at around $3,500 to get a ton of buzz. Not sure why other mobile Read more

ACLU Asks FTC to Investigate Carriers Over Security Risks, Delayed Android Updates

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) issued a formal complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Wednesday. In it they contend that Mobile Carriers are creating security risks for their customers by not releasing updates in a timely manner. As anyone still suffering with an ancient version of Android can tell you, carriers can take their time to push new Android updates even when the manufacturer has completed it, and there’s a point where a phone model will be completely left behind, often long before the end of its contract. Virgin Mobile Acid-Flashback Ad Stars Flaming Lips Frontman

Virgin Mobile has released a new commercial featuring the king of weird, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. The new ad is, trippy, to say the least; while it’s not as crazy as most of Coyne’s fake blood spewing live performances, it is cool enough to garner Richard Branson some hipster cred. The ad doesn’t feature any new Virgin Mobile devices or services, or seemingly anything for that matter. Except for Brazilian triplets, a giant egg, lobsters and a giant ball of yarn. The commercial, which was created by Mother NY is titled “Retrain Read more
