We all know that the holiday shopping season can be a lot of things: expensive, fun, stressful and others. Whatever you were feeling during the holiday shopping season, there’s a decent chance you were using a cell phone or smartphone during the process, according to new data from Pew Internet. This includes calling a friend to ask about a product, looking up a product online or looking up reviews of the … Read more

One of the banes of my existence has been the Microsoft Point system that’s used to purchase anything digital from a number of Microsoft’s online marketplaces including Zune, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Windows Phone Marketplace. According to a recent rumor published by insidemobileapps.com, it looks like Microsoft may finally be listening to its customers and plans to doing away with its horrid Microsoft Points system. If you’re unfamiliar with the Microsoft Points system, it’s a virtual currency that Microsoft decided to implement with the release of the Xbox 360 back … Read more
PayPal plans to let shoppers pay with its service in more than 2,000 stores as part of an effort to win away customers from credit-card companies. The company has already deployed its new service in a trial at 51 Home Depot’s, primarily in the San Francisco area, according to Anuj Nayar, a spokesman for PayPal. The giant e-commerce payment business feels really confident about this being a game changer in its future … Read more

The BlackBerry maker along with Turkish cell phone network Turkcell partnered up to launch the Cep-T Cüzdan mobile payment system on the Bold 9900. Much like Google Wallet, RIM’s system will work with MasterCard PayPass terminals both domestically … Read more

Amazon introduced a Kindle store optimized specifically for the iPad today. It’s not a native app available in the App Store, so don’t think Amazon gave into Apple’s strict in-app purchasing rules. Rather, the iPad-optimized Kindle store is accessible at amazon.com/iPadKindleStore. It only works when typed into Safari on iPad. Once there, you are greeted with a horizontal list of book covers representing the editors’ picks. In the left column is all the main categories of eBooks as well as some of Amazon’s featured sections like New York Times Bestsellers, … Read more
I have a friend who’s not very tech savvy. She not on any social network and doesn’t use a computer all that much. Ironically, she’s now at the forefront of mobile technology because she doesn’t use cash. Her paychecks are direct deposited, she uses debit or credit cards for purchases, and she makes most of her payments online. Now that she has a smartphone, she is one of 141.1 million users who used mobile payments last year. And this is just the tip of the iceberg for mobile payments. According to an infographic from the … Read more
Well this didn’t take long. Google Wallet is now unofficially available for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. This is truly ironic considering all of the bad turmoil that has been going on for the past few days, which allegedly has Big Red blocking the payment service. Thanks to the hard-working Android community people are able to get their hands on the Wallet service, but only if you’re willing to root your phone and follow a relatively simple guide. What’s even cooler about this back door way into the Google Wallet app … Read more
Earlier this year, on May 26th to be precise, Google announced Google Wallet and their intent to render your current wallet totally useless. It took a few months, but on September 19th the service became available to the public. In order to use it however you needed to be a Sprint customer using a Google Nexus S, and while you don’t need to be a Citibank customer to actually use Google Wallet, your life got a hell of a lot easier if you were. Sadly not much has changed since … Read more
